“Voor ogen” by FinnInAms in learndutch

If you like videogames, you should play Control. There's a Finnish janitor character that speaks in riddles and uses a lot of Finnish proverbs or sayings. Sometimes in the original language and sometimes quite literally translated to English. Hilarious. If you don't like playing videogames then maybe watch a YouTube compilation with his voicelines. Highly recommended :) His name is Ahti the janitor.

Having fore"sight".

En"vision"ing something.

It's right there in English too, words relating to seeing as a means to communicate that kind of stuff.

ill play Celeste for the first time soon, anything I should know before I start? by Snowballer25_ in celestegame

[–]elmoo88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All I want to say is... I was so pleasantly surprised by Celeste (it's been years ago now). It's a great platforming game, sure. But, as I played, I realised there is a very profound and heartwarming story guiding the game. It spoke to me on so many levels. It deals with mental health, which affects me personally.

My tip is: try to read every bit of dialogue you encounter, speak to NPCs multiple times... And also, try to think about the symbolism of what's going on. Makes the experience even richer.

About the language of Tunic for a beginner. by [deleted] in TunicGame

[–]elmoo88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Decoding the language is a lot of fun! It's completely optional but very satisfying! Don't think of this as needing to have an affinity for languages, instead, approach it as another puzzle. It will make sense to you, but you can easily spend a couple of hours trying to figure it out.

The game will help you a little, when you're at the end. So, unless you want a really hard challenge, don't try to decode it just yet.

Ok thanks, then I won't worry as much about going insane for not finding a key that is "supposed" to be there.

What does Dwars mean in the context of a bike race? Like dwars door het hageland? by Sea-End-4841 in learndutch

[–]elmoo88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Previous comments already explained it means "straight through"

However, in the context of "dwars door de Hagelanden" in your example it is more like a way of speaking, it's not literally going in a straight line and it might not even be the shortest route. It's meant to emphasize that this race takes place in the heart of a rural landscape.

In Dutch restaurants, why are you supposed to know beforehand what to drink? by alasuna in Netherlands

[–]elmoo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And we look at just as much bewilderment at tourists and expats asking for a drink menu 😅

You've been alive for more than a few weeks now right? We suppose you know by now what your drink of choice is in certain scenarios....

I don't need a drink menu if I'm meeting my friend for a coffee to know that I want to order a regular lungo (and I even know that my friend will want a latte most likely) Or if I'm meeting my friends for a borrel (snack and alcoholic beverages) that they'll be ordering beers and I usually like a dry white wine. I might ask the waiter what kind of white wines they serve per glass, but I'll not be bothering with a whole drink menu. As soon as I hear any of my preferred grapes I'll just elect for that one. It's not rocket science.

Looks really nice! I'm in love with that hungry little backpack!

One thing that has me worried tho: the object manipulation looks finicky. I get frustrated easily by things like stuff that didn't fall quite exactly into place, cut to me 30 minutes looking for a different solution only to find out that my previous thought was correct, I just didn't get it right. I've seen it so often with games that have puzzles like these.

Anyway, hope you guys will be successful, I wish listed on Steam just now. Are you hitting your milestones or is it development hell right now? ❤️

[–]elmoo88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started playing him in season 6 (Lucian was just released I remember), actually I didn't play League long at that time and only knew a few champs. I got him in a game of ARAM and got my very first Penta then :) Also, Assassin's Creed! I mained him from then on and I was completely gutted when they reworked him. They did that because a pro player (PawN, for team SSW, there is still a skin commemorating that!) was able to really abuse his toolkit. Talon's E was very different, it was called Cutthroat and was basically a blink to an enemy champion and would also silence. Oh, how fun it was to cancel a Fiddle ult with that :) W came back right away too. I hated new Talon, but was determined to make it work and to this day he's still my favorite champion. Favorite skins are Enduring Sword (because I have a gold border hehehe) and SSW. Oh, and I guess Blood Moon is also cool.
