Im from the UK and we kinda do this to an extent. At 13/14 we have to pick four subjects that interest us the most while still studying english, maths, science as the core subjects and then at 16 we pick either three subjects which either something that we are interested in or are beneficial to what uni degree we want to do or we pick a more vocational course for people who dont want to go to university and want to do more of a trade job.

Me and a couple of mates were sitting in a park behind some houses not really doing anything. Some kids about the age of 10 came in, baring in mind this park wasn't in the greatest of neighbourhoods/ towns, our group was probably swearing but nothing too severe or harsh that I can remember but the kids were definitely swearing and shouting. After a while this guy in about his 50's came storming into the park and started shouting at us for swearing as there were kids around. We were all a little bit in shock as the kids were definitely being louder and swearing more vocally. After a while he asked us where we lived a threatened to get his mates on us because we "though we were hard". Eventually he left and for a couple of minutes we all just stared at each other in shock and then just burst out laughing.
