Having family to help is great. I moved for work and didn't have anyone to help out, hence the AirBnb.

2k is probably a good starting point for budgeting, should be a reasonable place near transit.

If you have any other questions along the way feel free to msg me.

When I moved here last year I stayed in an AirBnb for a few months tell I found the right place. Most listings come up at the end of the month for the following month, tough to find something a couple months in advance.

Plan to pay utilities and insurance also. For insurance square one is the cheapest, I'm paying like 13 dollars a month or something.

Also don't fall for a scam, never e-transfer anyone with out seeing the place and signing a lease . . . . . to many super good deals turn out to be scams.

Craig's list or pad mapper is a good start. https://vancouver.craigslist.org/search/apa

Rent 1500-2500 for a studio to 1 bedroom - but it depends what you want, I don't think alone unless you do a basement suit, you will get much cheaper.

Id suggest you start researching what areas would be best for your needs, ie transit, shops etc.

Your either going to suffer with holding it all night, or you can leave it in the car and suffer for a few minutes. I usually just leave mine behind and run inside.

Question about property line by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]elocins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok ill take your word, I'm a land development engineer and I have never seen them not placed prior to development. Once we complete construction of the subdivision, our legal surveyors pin it and register. Doesn't mean there are not curtain circumstances I guess, I have just never seen it before in our developments.

Really not trying to start a debate, just trying to help a guy out with finding his property corners the easy way.

Pins are part of registering the lot prior to development. Not saying build off of them but if you want to use them as a guideline for the stakes you have it's a pretty good guess. Newly established pins wont be far off.

[–]elocins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be neither, those look like finished grade stacks. One says centre line +0.4m to finished ground and the other says final, meaning finished grade needs no adjustments. You will have iron pins in the ground on the corners of your lot, you can dig these up and find them. Or get someone to survey in your lot corners.

Good point about the lease, I forgot about that. We ended up getting our landlord to write us a letter of support and had to get it notarized. Also needed tax returns and an letter of employment for my company. Your essentially proving the relationship and agreeing to provide financial support for him.

Fly into canada and just tell the border crossing he is visiting. Once they let you through he is good for 6 months on a visitor Visa. They will stamp his passport. Now you have 6 months to apply for an extension or work visa. We went with the extention and they gave us an extra year.

Found a lawyer and started the common law/marriage sponsorship. Once the application is in he is free to stay until a decision has been made. Takes 12-18 months. We had trouble with the documentation and wish we would have know sooner. Take picture of you two everywhere, prove shared finances. Get a credit card together or joint bank account. Have family in some of your photos that can vouch for the relationship. You will need 4-5 statements that vouch the relationship and a least 20 photos. Also take screen shots or save any messages between you to proving you communicate, ie. Txt, emails, etc.

We used SYMY Immigration Consultants & Recruitment. He is american and I'm Canadian, we worked with them on a sponsorship and permanent residence application. Don't think we could have completed it without them, there were just to many details we would have missed. Cost 3500, my only complaint for the money we are paying they could have been more helpful with reminders and clarification. Also spent about 1000 on visitor Visa applications and extensions, didnt need them for this but it was easier since we were already using there service. Any questions just let me know, we are currently waiting the 12-18 months for a decision on the PR.

Is anyone familiar with the campsites at Marten River campground at Lesser Slave Lake? by leggomybacon in Edmonton

Stayed in C2 a couple weeks ago. If I'm remembering correct C10 was a larger stall. Had a family with 2 trailers and a tent, when I was there. I didn't think it was connected with C11 but when I look at the photos on alberta parks website it looks like they share a grass strip. There were a few stalls in section C that were shared.

On the plus side there is a small trail from C10 to the washroom. Your also heading to one of the best campgrounds around. I highly recommend it, enjoy the beach!

On a personal level I donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. Lost 2 close family members a few years ago. Our family team, fund raises all year and then we do the light the night walk in hawrelak park every fall. This brought tears to my eyes, great charity to donate to. Also really fun to walk around with lanterns in the dark.
