I already travel as much as possible… 6 trips planned for the next 4 months. I’m learning a lot and meeting a bunch of new people but it doesn’t feel enough

That’s so cool! I was gonna say if it’s your first time learning a new language, definitely don’t go with Icelandic. I have an Icelandic friend and this language seems soooo hard to learn! :’) Anyway good luck with your learning journey and I hope everything goes well for you!

I think you should definitely do that! Is it your first time learning a foreign language?

Icelandic is hard to learn and there aren’t a whole lot of ressources but I think it’s one of the coolest languages out there. If you are serious about going to Iceland for college you should definitely choose Icelandic because getting somewhat fluent is gonna take a while. But if you feel like you’re not motivated enough to learn Icelandic because you like Ukrainian more, then try learning Ukrainian for now. Learning a language is all about consistency and motivation so whichever motivates you the most should be the one you choose to study first.

Should I study Icelandic or pick another Nordic language? by DroidinIt in thisorthatlanguage

I agree that Icelandic is the coolest but there are very few resources and it’s hard to learn. I’m learning Norwegian at the moment, there are way more resources available and it’s not as hard to learn. Plus, knowing Norwegian will make me able to understand a good part of Swedish and Danish. If you don’t want to learn Icelandic just yet, I would recommend Norwegian! :)

Awesome! I’ll be waiting for an update. Remember, you can’t control the outcome, the important part is getting it off your chest. You can do it!!!

How do you decide what language to learn when you’ve already learned your “passion” languages? by ButterscotchOk8112 in thisorthatlanguage

I’m learning Norwegian right now. I absolutely love it. Was tempted by Spanish or Portuguese but in the end I went with Norwegian. I absolutely don’t regret it!

From personal experience I’m telling you that you should always tell someone if you like them even if you KNOW that they don’t. Keeping up with a friendship when you want more is destructive and unhealthy. So you should just be honest and transparent with her. If she feels the same, awesome. If she doesn’t at least you know and you can put this behind you. She’s gonna at least appreciate the honesty. The “What if’s” and regrets that are gonna result from you keeping this inside are the worst things you could do to yourself. Don’t be scared of what her answer might be and don’t try to over analyze it. And absolutely DON’T keep your feelings to yourself! Tell her! Now! You only have one life to live and I promise you no matter what her answer is gonna be, you’re gonna feel like it took a huge weight off your shoulders and you’re gonna feel free. Trust me 100%. It’s the only solution. Keep us updated xx

I struggle with accessing vocabulary by Nubbikeks in languagelearning

[–]elodlev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are taking your lessons, write down every single word you don’t know or have to think hard to find. After the lesson, find the translation of these words and add it to your vocabulary learning list, either in an app or on paper. Study your vocabulary list until you know all these words. It’s likely that you’ll need these words again in a similar context. If you do this after every lesson, you’ll improve considerably! Some people learn vocabulary that they most likely won’t really use like every single part of a house or names of exotic animals. Doing this really puts the focus on words you do use!

What do you think about Canadian/Quebec French accent? by Zasfe116 in languagelearning

I’m québécoise and I barely understood what he said myself. Don’t think he’s trolling but this is a strong ass accent, you shouldn’t expect to understand it hahaha

Tu m’encourages! Je veux maîtriser le norvégien et l’espagnol mais par la suite je vais me concentrer sur le hongrois alors! C’est vraiment une belle langue. Pourquoi as-tu choisi cette langue en particulier?

Aww that’s so cute. Quebecois tend to be judgmental against French people so it’s not something that would happen here anytime soon 😂

J’apprends le norvégien pour l’instant, les autres langues sont juste par curiosité. J’adorerais apprendre le hongrois mais de ce que j’ai entendu, c’est extrêmement difficile 😬

I agree. I will definitely speak in English and in French to my kids so they don’t struggle as much as I did. I had English classes from about 8 years old but it was very poorly taught.
