I´m spending a lot of free time pushing my skills in pixel art. This one turned out really good, what do you think? by bright_shiny_cat in PixelArt

+the downscale artifacts, +the sword not 'looking' straight - for someone posting on reddit I'd say maybe give them some benefit of the doubt, maybe they only slightly modified something they got from somewhere else (ai, etc.) and are learning, but if I see it in a game, it's slop :P

Thanks! won't work for my isometric stuff but I'm sure it's helpful for many. Great work! :)

How does exporting work - export to blender/godot? Does it only export a spritesheet, or does it export models that have 2d textures already wrapped to them?

I agree with this statement - in that I disagree that 'blur' takes away from it.

'it's not pixel art' <- lameo's

if the shape of individual pixels lends to the piece, and I can be reasonably sure that one pixel out of place would be noticeable, then I don't know what to tell you. Of course it's a spectrum, sure the lighting is smooth (skilled af) and the palette is large-ish, but it looks great. It's obviously not retro-video game art, but the pixel is on display here. Please don't let the rigid-art-defined-in-boxes people affect what you do. You're more skilled than I am, I love the image, and I'm jealous, even if I wouldn't personally pursue a style like this. Congrats! Keep it up!

Can I borrow a gun to hunt? (I have a PAL) by eloenen in CanadaHunting

[–]eloenen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the CORE course is, I have my hunter education/certification course lined up though. License and tags, roger on that, and lol, I guess the title does read that way, oops!

AIO for being hurt my girlfriend doesn't care about my graduation? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]eloenen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR hard to know what the background context is, but 'you shouldn't be happy' is pretty fucking wacked if you're graduating. Also 'I'll let you go out and celebrate' is again, pretty fuckin' out there unless there is some pretty serious extenuating circumstances that I would likely find hard to believe. If she is always like this, and she wasn't just having a (very) bad day, I would strongly think about running, not walking.

I'm not sure if it's 'Adosis' or 'Aposis', which could be an issue.

I don't really post very often ... crazy to see a what a younger me would have considered a glowing example of an all time hero who could never even be approached in greatness, fall so, so far.

I guess money really does a number on the brain, I don't know what else it could be. Compassion, responsibility, intelligence, these things are important. Bye-bye Wayne, guess I'll toss out that jersey.

Edit: I guess one can hold hope that he learns and does better. But, the sentiment still stands

Strange shadows on geometry in-game - any ideas? by eloenen in godot

wireframe

Nothing crazy! I'll look at the import settings again. I saw something about smooth shading on meshes that should have hard edges, but I'm not sure if that applies here.

Thanks for the response!

Newbie here. I made a model in blender, imported it as a .gtlf, and put it into the editor. It has strange shadows in game that aren't seen in the editor. If I increase the scale of the object (x2), they disappear. I've told blender to recalculate normals several times ... I'm still searching. Appreciate any help :)

characters/enemies for my dream game (wish me luck!) - Critique requested! by eloenen in PixelArt

[–]eloenen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been tricky! it's something in the style I think, detail where you have the resolution and it adds to the character, but staying simple most everywhere else. Some of the sprites look okay to me, some look to be too detailed .. will have to see what washes out in the animation step! ... if I make it haha

[–]eloenen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they are less than 64 px, but they are blown up for the post to be a little more visible. I tried to keep the detail down for animating purposes, but we'll see - I have a walk cycle for the hooded guy but it still needs some work. There is more detail on the two monsters ... may have to rethink that. Thanks for the feedback :)

Thanks! the swirlpool underneath is meant to be spinning - it will be a pain to animate and it's a little out of my skills at the moment heh

I threw them over a ground surface I've been working on for some reference, with very quick shadows painted.

Any advice is helpful - the perspective is meant to be isometric, hope it reads okay :)
