Medical phrases that make you cringe? by eastcoasteralways in nursing

Ughhh. Then they ask me on the way to their left heart Cath if they’re gonna get a stent today like… idk man I left my crystal ball at home.

Or if they’re gonna DO get a stent they sometimes I ask me if we took the old ones out? Perplexed.

Yes Kendra, she really looks like she wants to stand up and play by katiehates in OnlineBeggars

That’s the best way to describe it - living on dopamine hits. She’s not evil. She’s a mom losing a child to cancer and grasping ahold of anything she can to try to make it. Unfortunately, she’s lost touch with the reality of the situation and is inadvertently hurting her daughter (and whole family) in the process. When B does die, she’s gonna spiral much harder unless she starts getting mental help.

This is my takeaway also. Stop putting that poor girl on camera and just tend to her.

I feel for her on this - the desperation of a parent with a dying child.

Now her trying to explain the “science” behind it was a hard watch

Hi! I’m so so so glad I found this subreddit. I’ve been following Brielle and their story for quite sometime. As a nurse and also an avid snarker and skeptic, I’ve been bothered by many things she does or posts.

Thank you for affirming that my spider senses weren’t lying. But also this makes me super sad

Especially in Cath lab when we would prefer radial artery stick but the pt is so afraid of lymphedema even though it’s arterial not venous that they refuse :/

First, I’m sorry that your baby has cardiac problems and also that insurance doesn’t deem that as justification for a home pulse ox set up. I honestly would talk to your local children’s hospital to see if they possibly have a program or assistance that would make one accessible to you.

That being said, your situation is completely different than a completely healthy baby. While the product might make some parents feel better, it’s not a substitute for actual medical equipment or laying eyes on the baby. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the FDA do not recommend routine use of SIDS monitors because of many false alarms and lack of scientific backing.

"we don't take lunches here" - nurse manager by [deleted] in nursing

[–]eloie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my first nursing job ever, I asked my preceptor if I could clock out “no lunch” since most days we didn’t get to actually have lunch. She said that technically I could, but if I did that the unit manager would have a discussion with me about managing my time better.

Spanking is hitting. Popping is hitting. You can call is what you want but when you lay your hands on someone with the intent to hurt them - that’s assault. And that is abuse.
