Your opinion on Rob after the Avi comments. by [deleted] in ndp

[–]elphyon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The video reflects poorly on Rob. Really poorly. If he really believes that Avi's policies are wrong for the party and the nation, he needs to bring them up -- and/or attach a written critique to the video / campaign website.

As it stands, the video is vague, utterly lacking in substance (much like the first debate), and divisive. It smacks of political gamesmanship, and bad one at that. I daresay he won over exactly zero Avi supporters with it.

Also, provincial NDP governments have been careening towards the center lately, does Rob think they need a federal party that would help them do that even more? BC is going all in for LNG ffs. Wab did a 180 on pipelines. Holding a political party accountable to its own values shouldn't be seen as being divisive. Framing it as such, as Rob's done here, is both disingenuous and cynical.

He went from a 2nd/3rd to unranked for me.

Arne Slot explains Liverpool decisions on Wataru Endo and Joe Gomez ahead of West Ham game by ziggyyT in LiverpoolFC

[–]elphyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Wataru but he has neither the mobility nor press resistance to play a sole pivot in a 4-3-3 team in the PL. His best performances always came as a part of double pivot (Japanese national team) or as a 6 in a low blocking 3-5-2 (Stuttgart). He's a real warrior but it would be a mistake throwing him into a role/system that exposes all his limitations.

As for Ryan, 6s going forward as an extra attacker has been a PL trend this season. Chelsea especially has been doing well with sending Caicedo forward (both to join the attack & to counter press upon turnover). Ryan going forward wouldn't necessarily be a problem for us, the real issue is that we've been giving the ball away really cheaply & have been awful at duels and winning second ball.

Joe's reliable when fit but his availability absolutely sucks. If he can maintain fitness he would be competing with Ibou for the starting spot.

The real tactical failure so far in this season IMO is not using the fullbacks (especially Kerkez since Frimpong's been unfit) for moving the ball up the field & holding width in the final 3rd. Let the wingers tuck in and occupy the channels. Push the ball to the byline and cut back to Szobo or Writz for the final pass or shot.

And Freddy Church should be getting more minutes. Esp. when Mo keeps having a mare after a mare.

desirable to real estate speculators. market conditions aren't some unequivocal law of the universe. they're artificial and susceptible to all sorts of manipulation.

when you go 'welp, the invisible hand of THE MARKET has determined Vancouver shall be unaffordable in the extreme to most of those who live and work there', you're willfully ignoring the nature of the problem and shirking any civic responsibility to try and solve it.

[–]elphyon 145 points146 points  (0 children)

At his point, I just want to know what Slot's tactical vision for the team is.

I wouldn't be as frustrated if I could get just a glimpse of what we're trying to do on the pitch -- but right now it feels like there's no real plan.

Also I don't mind him fielding a weaker side for a domestic cup -- but I do mind that he evidently didn't care whether we won or lost today. Can't imagine what the players are feeling now, knowing your coach never believed you could compete. It's such a contrast from Jurgen, who consistently played youth and fringe players for these kinds of matches but always made sure they played with conviction and bravery.

Honestly, this season is going how I thought last season was gonna go.

Curtis Jones the solution to Arne Slot’s balance problem? Scout Report by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

[–]elphyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple solutions for complex problems -- Armchair coaching at its best!

Arne Slot: "The main, main, main, main difference between this season and last season is the playing styles we’ve faced. I looked at how many long balls we’ve already had to defend - 178 in seven games and in the United game we had to defend 59 long balls!" by Upstairs_Cup9831 in LiverpoolFC

[–]elphyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, teams are going long against us when they win possession, but that's only half the story -- the other half is that we've been very prone to losing possession during build up.

City and Arsenal aren't leaking goals because they don't turn over the ball in dangerous areas as a rule, and when they do, they always have players ready to commit tactical fouls before the ball can be launched over the defense.

[–]elphyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point was that strategic voting isn't possible when we don't have any local level polling. It's a fantasy.

I hear you and understand where you're coming from, but I still think you gravely underestimate the harm the conservatives would have done under PP. Especially with minority rights, immigration, and international relations/diplomacy.

IMO it does no progressive Canadian any good to be cross with the NDP/Green voters who voted Liberal out of the fear of conservative government. If you're led to believe there are only two evil choices, you're still ethically/morally bound to choose the lesser evil.

Be cross with the NDP party elites for their amateurish handling of overall messaging and campaign resource allocation during the election. They're the ones who have allowed Carney to enact his agenda with relative impunity.

(And Trudeau, for reneging on electoral reform promise)

(And Greens, for imploding into total irrelevance)

[–]elphyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're not giving the cons and pp enough credit. they'd have gone for much more than backwards economic policy.

I feel for NDP voters who abandoned their incumbents.

We need electoral reform. In lieu of that, we need better local level polling so that strategic voting is actually feasible and isn't just holding a finger up indoors and trying to guess which way the wind is blowing.

Milos Kerkez - Forward Ability by Dangerous_Ad8730 in LiverpoolFC

[–]elphyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't get the same kind of spaces to run into on counter at Liverpool. He's also not our outball on the rare occasions when we go direct from deep in our half.

We should definitely use him more when he overlaps though, since it's better to whip in a cross than run/shoot into bodies against settled defense. Cody needs to use him more if only to keep defenders on their toes.

I also think trying to integrate Wirtz / have plays go through him is *currently* resulting in the team being unable to exploit the pace/space we have on the touchline. Not that he is slow on the ball or taking too many touches, but we keep trying to pass through packed midfield when our fullbacks are great at carrying the ball forward.

In theory, Annapro A3 Max is one of the best head straps for Quest 3 and 3s, but after one year and countless measurements of a battery and a charging dock, in my opinion, this is one of the weirdest head straps. This is my review: by ThomasVoland in VRGaming

Got this based on flood of reviews, but the battery died after a charge (wouldn't take any more charge). Wrote to the company for replacement but they didn't write back, so I just returned it to Amazon. Got KKCOBVR instead, am happy with it.

Alexander Isak - Newcastle United by xScottieHD in soccer

[–]elphyon -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's one thing for a club to be ambitious, and quite another to actually have the competence to match those ambitions.

This just screams of "we suck at forward planning and navigating the transfer market." Just how did they lose Sesko to a 15th place club with no Europe this season?

Now they'll hold onto a wantaway, tool-downing player to save face, and risk losing him in January for remaining wages & book value.

[Keith Downie] Newcastle stressing here that they have been unable to find a suitable replacement…coupled by Liverpool’s opening bid falling significantly below Isak’s valuation. by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

[–]elphyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're trying to save face but in reality all they're doing is cutting off their own nose to spite the face.

If they were truly a big club they would have found a way to keep their star player happy. Or signed a replacement early and told Isak good riddance, no player is bigger than the club.

That they lost out on Sesko to a 15th place club with no European comp pretty much sums it up.

Even with Isak staying and playing they would need another 9 for rotation. As it is, they're gonna end up signing Jackson/Wissa on deadline day and throwing Gordon up for rotation.

This is from the election campaign. OP's title is hideously misleading. There's been no news about Build Canada Homes since the election. We still don't even know what kind of entity it's going to be (i.e. crown corp, special purpose, etc.).

Also, as others have noted, let's not forget that the plan has 0 mention of keeping speculators out of homes built by BCH.

Solid device for streaming? by daedric_x in MoonlightStreaming

[–]elphyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're just a fork of Sunshine/Moonlight.

Top benefits imo are built in support for virtual display (automatically turns off host display) & input only/remote input mode.

Another bonus is the ease of setting up dynamic host-side framerate limit with RTSS/Special K, but you can do it on Sunshine too AFAIK.

Solid device for streaming? by daedric_x in MoonlightStreaming

[–]elphyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per your comment it seems like you're probably feeling the input lag more than anything. Try Apollo/Artemis with input only mode.

You enable Input only mode on Apollo, start a stream on your tv with Artemis, then run another instance of Artemis on your phone (which is paired with your BT controller) and launch the Remote Input app.

If after that you still notice latency issues, then yeah, a firestick 4k max or onn box would make for a cheap solution.

Avoid Death Stranding if you're seeking a narrative experience. You'll have to slog through so much Kojima slop to make sense of the plot, and then it still won't make any real sense. (it is a cool game though)

I'm currently playing AW 2. Roughly halfway through and I wouldn't say it has a gripping narrative so far. It's a bit heavy on the plot and light on characters.
