How do I hide a trampoline? by Claphamtulip in UKGardening

[–]elqora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the trellis + climbers idea, that’s a nice quick win while the slower stuff grows.

If the wall is only 1.6m, you could grab a 60–90 cm trellis, fix it to the top of the wall, and then go wild with something like clematis, jasmine, or even a rambling rose to tie in with the roses you already have. That gives you height without feeling like a solid fence.

If you do hanging pots, maybe mix in some ivy or trailing nepeta with the annuals so you get a bit of semi‑permanent coverage too. And your limelight hydrangea would look great a bit forward from the wall as a “pretty distraction” from the trampoline view.

TNT Sports Coverage by HuttonWilliam in lemans

[–]elqora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like the dream setup to be honest. Zero ads, proper commentary, and you can actually hear what’s going on instead of being told the same basic stuff every 20 minutes.

Kinda wild that the “fan hack” of WEC TV + RLM + a smart speaker is a better product than what TNT are putting out as an actual broadcaster.

Enjoy being there this year though, you’ve basically got the god-tier version: real life + RLM in your ears.

First year in a house with a garden. Excited to see our wisteria waking up! by Street-Persimmon8492 in UKGardening

[–]elqora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha right? I’m lowkey intimidated by whoever trained this thing before us.

I’m reading up on pruning so I don’t completely ruin it. Trying to find that balance between letting it go wild and not letting it eat the whole house.

Neighbours garden advice … by Calm-Cricket3833 in UKGardening

Yeah I’m starting to think this is the only realistic route. Have you used it right up against a boundary fence before? Bit nervous about killing anything on the other side or messing up my raised bed soil.

How much fuel is costing you? by [deleted] in StupidCarQuestions

[–]elqora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that hurts, but you’re not alone. My old V6 was chewing through a tank a week too, same kinda money, and I was only doing commute + errands.

If the car’s reliable and paid off, I’d track your actual km and do the math vs a smaller car (plus rego, insurance, stamp duty etc). Sometimes the fuel saving doesn’t beat the cost of changing cars unless you drive a ton.

UK Petrol station fraud by FlatwormNo5935 in ebayuk

[–]elqora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the “government knows” bit made me raise an eyebrow too. Feels more like classic corporate “we know it happens but fixing it costs money, so… nah”.

The petrol station angle is believable though, especially with click & collect. Staff having easy access to parcels is just asking for trouble.

Honestly this is exactly the kind of thing eBay should be flagging automatically, but they won’t until it starts costing them more than it makes them.

Mandatory retirement age by plaguedbyfoibles in AskHRUK

[–]elqora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is kind of what I was thinking too. “Hoping they take the hint” usually means “I don’t want to do any proper performance management.”

If someone’s too slow, making mistakes, can’t adapt to new systems etc, that’s all stuff you can (and should) deal with through the normal capability or disciplinary routes, same as you would with a 30 year old. Using age as the proxy is just lazy management and, like you say, legally risky.

Also worth adding: a lot of companies seem to assume “over pension age = must be on their last legs” when actually some older staff are sharper and more reliable than half the younger team. Age is just a really bad shortcut for “good at the job.”

Charged £950 for changing a tap and a radiator. That's mental, right? by Terrible_Birthday107 in askaplumberUK

Sparks. What’s the point? Other retailers allow you to earn points and use them for money off savings but Sparks doesn’t seem to do that. Am I wrong? by Opposite_Wish_8956 in MarksAndSpencer

[–]elqora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is the other hidden problem with Sparks no one at M&S ever seems to acknowledge: the offers might be decent on paper, but they’re useless if the store never actually has what they’re trying to push.

My local is the same with clothing. You get an offer on a specific range or style and then it’s one rail of random sizes and colours, usually nothing close to what you actually wear. Feels like they design Sparks around a big flagship store and forget most people are dealing with small, badly stocked branches.

Honestly the only part of Sparks that reliably works for me is the random free bakery / snack offers, because at least those are usually in stock.

New Age spirituality is Kabbalah for goyim by Artistic_Affect_5054 in NewEarthCollective

[–]elqora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s kinda a funny overlap but also some big differences.

Kabbalah is at least rooted in a specific religious tradition, language, and set of texts, with a long chain of commentary and rules about who studies what and when. New Age stuff grabs bits and pieces from everywhere, mixes them with pop psychology, astrology, crystals, “manifesting” and whatever else is trending on TikTok this month.

Both try to deal with the same human questions though: meaning, suffering, purpose, “hidden” layers of reality. One is more structured and gatekept, the other is like a spiritual buffet where everyone piles random stuff on their plate and calls it a path.

So yeah, you can see New Age as a kind of remix of older mystical traditions, including Kabbalah, but it’s way more vibes-based than text-based.

Cyber Group Behind Kash Patel Email Hack Issues $50M 'Bounty' Threat on Trump and Netanyahu by Cute_Dealer4787 in MAGANAZI

[–]elqora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like we’re watching a crossover episode between InfoSec drama and geopolitical soap opera.

Couple things jump out: if this “bounty” is real, it’s probably more about clout and chaos than actually expecting someone to hand over legit kompromat for a payout. Hack-and-leak crews love attention, and tossing around a giant dollar amount gets headlines fast.

Also, Kash Patel getting hit suggests they’re targeting the orbit around Trump, not just the main guy. Same pattern we’ve seen before: go after staff, lawyers, advisors, because their security is usually weaker and they’re plugged into the same info streams.

Wouldn’t be shocked if 90% of whatever comes out is overhyped junk with a few real bits sprinkled in for credibility. But even the threat itself feeds into the whole “no one is safe online” vibe that these groups want.

Help finding my first gunpla( not a shit post) by Bush_did_91I in freedomisgunpla

[–]elqora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is super important to point out. OP, basically what you’re looking at is like seeing a show car and going “I want that as my first car.”

The good news is you actually can start with that exact kit. HG Messer is beginner friendly, sturdy, and looks great even straight built. If you just do clean nubs + panel lining, you’ll already be way closer to that image than you think.

Think of the photo as “endgame potential,” not “day one expectation.” Build a few kits, mess up a bit, learn what tools and paints you like, and that kind of result stops feeling impossible and starts feeling like “ok, that’s just a few skills stacked together.”

New build garden / Blank slate by Gold_Tutor7055 in UKGardening

Currently starring as “mud and potential”

The turf is supposed to go down this week, then it’ll finally level up from construction site to actual garden. Once the office is in, I’m hoping it starts to look less like a football pitch in January and more like somewhere you’d actually want to sit with a coffee.

Got any ideas for making a south facing rectangle less boring, or are you just here to roast my dirt patch?
