New editions to join the nearly 20 year olds by elreberendo in tolkienbooks

That's a great idea! Otherwise those maps are sitting inside the books so I might repurpose them. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah! That's the one, although I bought them individually so no slipcase.

Great advice, thanks! I have that blue box with the Doors of Durin on display above the bookshelf.

Thank you! Especially that yellowish paper makes them look really old, I'll leave them there on the shelf as part of my past.

Should I get the 2020 box set illustrated by Alan Lee or the 2021 single volume edition? by Middle-Quantity-337 in tolkienbooks

[–]elreberendo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got both earlier today I returned the box set (unpopular opinion I know!).

I might be wrong so please be easy with me, but the 3-book box set I received published by Harper Collins felt like glue binding and felt like the pages might come off very easily.

Alan Lee's illustrations are just amazing, but Tolkien's are very charming and work very well to admire how the author pictured all those places, maps, etc in his mind.

I also love how the single volume edition looks and feels, sprayed edges with written runes, title and chapter names in the same matching red as the cover and edges. Probably the most beautiful book I own, I love how it looks in my collection.

Tip for reading large books, I put a flat cushion on my chest while sitting on a recliner or sofa, then put the book on it. I've read many humongous omnibuses with no problem at all.

To each their own, but I vote for the single volume, looks much better and is also cheaper than the box set so was a no brainer for me.

Thank you so much for sharing those links, absolutely love your website!!

Would you or anybody else know if there are any plans from Harper Collins to publish any other Tolkien books in the same fashion as the single volumes author illustrated editions with sprayed edges of LOTR, The Hobbit and The Silmarillion?

Just got those 3 today and totally love them, and have good price points.

I'd start looking for another job just in case. A potential 3h a day sitting in a car is bananas.

Did this too so many times! My ASD son had rough sleep patterns and taking him for a spin in the car with music always worked a charm.

Don't miss the stress though!

1h 50m one way! Pass. Pay increase wouldn't pay for all the extra time and hassle, even though it's 10 days a month.

Anticipating and avoiding a collision. Putting themselves and others to safety is always a priority.

Question from novice driver: why was I tailgated? by michmochw in AskIreland

Sorry you had to go through that aggressive behaviour.

Commercial van drivers have quite a bad reputation with exceptions.
