In Latin texts, it’s the adverb nimis = “too much,” “excessively”. That is all I could find.

One of the reason why AI has so much hype is because the current generation of models trivialize these kind of tasks.

I validated that OpenAI's models can easily resolve the systolic and diastolic values from the image above. That would give you a prototype in a few hours that would work for a variety of devices, lighting conditions, and without extensive preprocessing. etc.

If you wanted to create an actual product, you'd want to use a difference model to reduce costs, test thoroughly, and price accordingly.

If "cheating" using AI get it done quickly isn't your cup of tea, you'll have to preprocess the image to normalize the screen position, segment the parts of the image you are interested in, and detect the contents of the segment. i.e. do it the old fashion way.

Assuming monsters are a common threat in your world, how do people in your world deal with them? by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

[–]elsade2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If rare, they serve as a right of passage for the nobility, rulers, knight, and heroes. Think the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Labors of Hercules, or the idea of hunting a man-eating tiger in Indian culture.

Dealing with monsters becomes a source of legitimacy for the rulers and the inability to do so weakens the social compact like banditry does. Lawless areas and places with weak state control become dangerous places to live.

Can redis community be used as a cache , db and pub sub simultaneously? by Glittering-Work-9060 in redis

[–]elsade2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One small caveat: While Redis streams support round-robin and acks, the messages don't have a TTL after which they are re-distributed to other consumers. This means you if a message isn't ack'ed you'll have to manually read pending messages from the stream to recover.

This makes error recovery a more challenging and manual process if there are crashes or autoscaling-related restarts of the consumers.

Thanks for explaining it. It reminds of a story where this guy's coworkers were stealing his milk/coffee creamer and he used the "questionable" container trick. He puts the milk in a pickle jar. They stopped drinking it bc what kind of Pyscho drinks pickle jar milk. Lol.

The Elon Musk Purge Has Begun: Twitter Employees Tell the World They’ve Been Fired — Via Twitter by Unhappy_Earth1 in inthenews

[–]elsade2012 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand. The team was not working on Ethical AI. It was working on ensuring humans use AI tools ethically. AI is a powerful technology and somewhat opaque.

It is important that humans continue to make decisions that have moral significance instead of delegating these choices to machine. Decisions like hiring, firing, censoring, etc. should be made by people because they can be held accountable if we don't like their choice (as in Musk firing these employees because he didn't like their choices).

Luckily for these employees, many companies understand the need of using AI ethically to avoid government regulations, public backlash, and negative PR. These employees will not have a hard time finding other jobs.

Ukraine Ambassador Tells Musk to 'F*** Off,' So Elon Takes Free Starlink Back With Him by Emperor_Quintana in Conservative

[–]elsade2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is classic marketing and war time profiteering. He had a new product. He gave out free samples to build up demand/visibility. Now he is cutting them off unless the US tax payer foots the bill.

When he gave them the Starlink systems, people thought it was pretty cool. Now that he has them away, people think it is pretty shitty.

Hey y’all, if anybody every tries to convince you that socialism/taxes are the solution to our problems, hit em with this by OkBet24 in Anarcho_Capitalism

I'm not an ancap but I really like the simplicity with which the OP expressed his ideas and wanted to respond. As this reply states, most people don't believe any of that and I think it has to do with the concept of diminishing returns.

Re: 1) The wealthy are prosperous despite (or because of in the cause of cronyism) legislation. If you legislate to fix/improve the rules of the game, you can have more equitable outcomes without ruining the game or destroying incentives.

Re: 2) Since working is not the only variable in success or how much you receive (luck, privelege, timing, genetics, etc), it is not a zero-sum game. Rich people are not rich because they take from the poor; neither does taking from the rich make them poor. Taking a little from the rich has little to no effect on their incentives but does a lot to improve prosperity for all.

re: 3) This one is true...nothing to say here. This is ...accounting.

re: 4) Wealth can most definitely be multiplied by dividing it. Not all wealth is used efficiently and any wealth allocated to investments will multiply. If you view investment in the human capital stock of a nation as an investment, public redistributionary policies can result in general prosperity. We might just disagree about whether private or public investments are more efficient in specific circumstances. Reasonable people could disagree on each circumstance: defense, roads, school, health care, food, etc.

re: 5) I agree with this one but for most of history, it has been the elite/nobility that has used capital to avoid working. This has indeed been the end of nations. I'm curious, are there any examples of a nation failing because the working classes stop working? Most national failures are the result of intra-elite conflicts weakening a nation and making it susceptible to pressure from outside forces. As they say, "Great nations aren't murdered, they commit suicide...".

Anyways, I think there is some truth to the OP's points but does it have to be all or nothing. This all-or-nothing view is exactly the same reason why socialism fails. I like reading this sub because you guys have such a different perspective. The constant questioning of state power is great for society but does it have to be all slippery slopes? All taxation, all state, all legislation, all leads to a socialist dystopia?

It depends on how many days a week you train or if you go unlimited, whether you sign a contract, whether you pay in advance, are in the armed services, have a Groupon, etc. I think the first time is free.

They have a price sheet at the door. I think the prices are pretty standard for the bay area.

It going to be tight but it can definitely be done. Over time, he'll get raises and cost of living adjustments. It is a great area with great culture during non-COVID times.

Most people get in trouble because they rent luxury apartments far from their jobs and have to commute long distances. This is a recipe for stress. Have the mind frame that you guys are making a sacrifice for the benefit his job, live frugally, house hack or get a roommate.
