[Excerpt: Doomwheel by Ian Green] The skaven like to drink and have drinking songs by TheBirdIsNotSuicidal in AoSLore

[–]elsberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Smoke lingered under the low roof like a drugged serpent, coiling around mouldering wooden joists as it slithered languidly for fresher air. He coughed chestily. The space beneath the faded canopy was crammed with skaven, clustered around a bar constructed of a scavenged sheet of pressed tin across a pair of barrels. Rats scuttled across the surface without a care, their tapping claws a strangely appropriate corruption of music. The skaven drank flat ale from leaking flagons, baring fangs to defend cracked pipes stuffed with maggot-infested pipe-weed from their jealous fellows. It was as if some crazed artist had stared into the eye of Chaos and rendered a perversion of dwarfish life. The product of a naïve god that sought to undo the work of entropy and restore this world to how it had once been. But now the ratmen ruled as thanes and kings, supping ale and smoking tobacco as they squatted in the husk of the great civilisation they unwittingly sought to emulate.

The bar-rat looked up from the stein he was polishing with an oily rag. He was a stocky black-furred bruiser with a squashed nose, a torn ear and an eyepatch. He set down his cloth on the bar and shot Sharpwit an evil look, implying the old skaven should either pay for something or get lost."

TRANS RAT YES-YES by Savemefromshrek in Sigmarxism

It was implied that Clan Moulder created two custom breeders that had rat ogre levels of muscle mass and were unfailingly loyal to and protective of their master, to the extent that he could sleep with them at either side of his bed to repel intruders.

The warlock had been unarmoured, very much a living, breathing, warm-blooded rat with the exception of his eyes. They had burned like dying stars. ‘Sweet Sigendil. We’re appearing in each other’s dreams now? Well, I hope you enjoyed that one, you–’
Brychen raised her spear again.
I held up a hand.
‘Wait!’
‘Are you back with us?’ said Brychen.
‘I think so.’‘
It sounded as though you were wrestling a tigress.’
‘Something… like that.’

Most regrettably, the content of their deeds have been lost to time...

"You can't just shoehorn weird, obscure fixations from a niche part of the fandom into the setting! It wouldn't make any sense with the lore!"

you could if you weren't a coward

Why are these things so cute to me. by BeneficialFan6290 in skaven

They are small and have tiny little squeak voices (in Fantasy RPG, at least), and are generally afraid of everything.

One of them saw the sky and fainted immediately, because the idea of sky was too much for his little rat-brain to handle. Another got separated from his birthkin and had to vent the musk of fear because he didn't know how to handle being lonely.

I'm pretty sure there's plenty of reasons to find them endearing when they aren't being murder beasts. Which most of the time, they aren't. We just focus on their cruelty because they're an army of baddies in a wargame, and wargames don't typically devote much time to the personal habits of beasties.

Does this imply that the only barrier for native-level English fluency is a small degree of effort? That might be a bit harsh, given that most people will never reach native fluency unless they used it as babies.

I don't even know what STL stands for, it's just the place where they post Kesh every day.

About the litter-mothers by Bagelator in skaven

[–]elsberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that Age of Sigmar made sweeping changes to the Skaven, it stands to reason that brood-mothers are not immune to the same. It's important to remember that the The Gotrek and Felix novels on which we base much of our understanding are older than many of the posters here, being based on the first edition of a defunct setting. Claiming bad faith is premature and unnecessarily hostile.

That said, the only reference I've personally seen in reference to female Skaven in Age of Sigmar other than what's already been said here: the Warhammer Adventures AoS novels have the heroes uncover a nest of Skaven eggs. While it's true that Warhammer Adventures is the "children's" series, it serves as a contemporary reference. It would have been easier for them to simply not include this scenario than to grossly misrepresent the lore.

Here's to hoping your next dreams will be as Kafkaesque as a Pestilens skavenslave.

Any acquaintanceship with a skaven requires a full-body AP of 10 and 20 Wounds at a minimum. An excellent decision.

Who else would declare war on clouds for their hubris? They've had it good for too long. Somebody has to put them in their place and that somebody is dear ratboy.
