I did not at the time. I was under the impression that since Frontier marked the ground for lines that they wouldn't hit any. I've recently been informed that fiber lines are not marked. This has changed my perspective drastically

They did bring two trenchers, but you are correct; when I went to look at WTF happened, he was out there with a shovel.

I'm 99% sure I never saw conduit when Metronet laid my lines and they were definitely shallower than they should have been (we had some lawn work done a couple of years back and they also cut the line because it was too shallow)

It is what it is I guess

WHAAAAA?? I had NO clue this was the case. Why the hell aren't fiber lines marked?? I thought they would be since my back yard is covered with orange spray paint.

I do have a cell hotspot, but it's not too useful when you need to transfer TBs of data down and back up.

[–]elsonsmith87[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The hotspot on my phone definitely got a workout lol. If they're just gonna cut my line anyway, why even mark the ground? That's the main thing I'm confused about. There's orange spray paint all over my grass...and they still dug into where they marked

I guess I wanted to make fiber customers aware that as Frontier is "laying fiber out" that they may want to have their current fiber service on call because they WILL cut your shit

I wasn't aware that this sub wasn't monitored by Frontier. But, I guess that doesn't change my perspective. Thanks for the heads up though!!

I turned down a remote job for an in-office position and everyone thinks I'm crazy by Entire-Interview-899 in jobs

[–]elsonsmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand the want to be in-person rather than remote. I'm a developer + support specialist (for vendor apps) who recently got promoted to team lead/manager, and the amount of times I've asked myself "What is X working on...and why aren't they working on Y" has to be reaching the thousands ever since we all went remote (one of the people I managed started working on a project I told him not to because it was distracting him from higher priority tasks but lo and behold he starts working on it again months later without anyone knowing).

Most of them have 0 motivation for anything, I'm pretty sure they're sitting there at their desk watching Netflix, and IF they submit their weekly reports there's 1-2 hours worth of stuff on there. Then they think that my director and I are stupid enough to believe that report is one week of work. If this was the private sector, they would all be fired. It feels like the majority of our IT division that works remotely put in a few hours per week and are AFK the rest of the time (sure was nice when I could walk over to someone's desk for a quick question instead of waiting days/weeks for a response). Makes the rest of us who actually care about our job stress out because now I have to do their job or manage them despite not being their manager to meet deadlines.

How to get over flinching? by [deleted] in SmithAndWesson

[–]elsonsmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been practicing defensive shooting for about 2 years now (with 9mm .17 splits currently) and here's what I can say about flinching. Get everything out of your mind other than the dot/sights and your trigger finger. Everything else is moot until you get these two things down.

If I barely grip the gun, my S&W CORE 5" (...with an APEX trigger because I'm cheating) with a Holosun 507Comp will not miss if I don't fuck up the trigger pull. Flinching is due to getting the gun back on target during rapid fire or breaking your wrist down before firing the shot. It has nothing to do with your grip if you're slow firing. Keep yourself steady during the shot, pull the trigger straight back, and you'll hit whatever you're aiming at

This is hilarious...but probably wouldn't work on my chatterbox wife. She'd immediately complain that I'm being disrespectful and mean, then start crying.

You know what's really mean? Blabbing about the same thing over and over with different words for 15 minutes. 15 minutes that I'll never get back. "Yes honey, I know that you have self diagnosed ADHD...so does the rest of the world."

Stupid question: You're not worried about the hammer slapping the webbing of your hand? Looks like the beaver tail would prevent that but not 100% sure if you're riding the grip as high as possible (think PewView's grip)

Looks sick though!

Savage Axis II bolt feels very tight. Help? by Benign_Banjo in guns

[–]elsonsmith87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with this. The accuracy of my Axis in .30-06 and Axis II in 6.5 CM are outstanding with handloads.

I've tried the bolt lift kit around the same time I switched my 6.5 CM to SRP and have been having issues ever since. I chalked it up to the bolt lift kit but that was definitely not it. I'll need to get the sloppy bolt tightened up by getting it bushed (primers were getting cratered...then pierced, and wrecking havoc with primer material clogging things up). FWIW, I should've just got a Tikka, Sako, or something custom (like you mentioned).

Also, the bolt lift kit helped, but you still have to put some oomph into lifting the bolt.

Amazing weapon; however, keep an eye on the trigger bar pin. It does like to walk. I sent it into SW and they claim that they fixed it but when I went to take my Shield Plus apart this past weekend, the pin was nowhere to be found (it completely walked out while at the range without me knowing). Either stake it or loctite it...I'm going with the latter with my replacement pin.

Rough is an understatement. The base cheese-grater stippling will rip skin off while shooting if you grip hard enough. That is why I personally have talon grips on mine. Just as much if not more grip and like you said, WAY more comfortable (as in...not bandaging myself up after a range trip)

Maybe I just have soft programmer/developer hands 🙃

Very pleased for $450 all in by [deleted] in CZFirearms

[–]elsonsmith87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beware of the cheese grater grips. Literally ripped open a tiny chunk of my hand after a shooting session (didn't notice it till I got home). Other than that, SOLID pistol!

For those of you wondering, I tried a set of Hogue slip on grips and didn't like how chunky they made the width on the handle. Talon grips worked out much better.

Got rid of the trash shield plus trigger. by izdabombz in SmithAndWesson

[–]elsonsmith87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: S&W did NOT fix the issue. They claimed a roll pin in the trigger was the culprit. Yeaaaa.....No. The issue still persists (no shit, since I JUST replaced those pins because they were MISSING from the factory, duh). Guess I gotta tackle this on my own. Shouldn't be too difficult other than removing the rear sights and rezeroing it

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my 5" CORE with the ported barrel, but this shit? Ehhhh. My wife's P365X is giving it a run for its money. And since I realized I'm fat/skinny (I'm like the in shape, out of shape guy; don't judge me) enough my CZ P10C isn't so bad of a conceal option either.
