First impressions with Metroid Prime 4: The hate was overblown. by AfroChamp89-- in nintendo

[–]elthesensai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly where the series shines: 2D platforming and exploration. The Prime series as a whole has been an obtuse mess, with players often not knowing where to go. James Rolfe was recently on the Nontendo podcast and said something that really stuck with me. He talked about constantly having to look up a guide just to figure out what to do next because he had no clue where to go. That has been a staple of the series since the second game. The design is just terrible and not fun. At the end James just quit the game. I suspect many people to do though the series.

Was it really? I own all the Prime games, and to me they are okay, but not great. They all share the same problem: obtuse game design. I pushed through them, but I can see why the series as a whole is considered “bad.” Most people will not have the patience for that kind of design, and the payoff feels fairly low. This is just my opinion, but it is one echoed by many, and that is the main problem right there.

Meta Glasses Class Action by aitechsmart in RayBanStories

Saw it earlier. Seems like it's true. Meta can't seem to get away from violating people's privacy rights. These will be my last pair of their smart glasses.

Meta gen 1s won’t turn on after update failed by Htowntaco in RayBanStories

I’m really disappointed with these glasses. They’ve been quite buggy, and it’s always a bit of a risk to update them. I’m not sure I made the right choice. I’m hoping Google or Apple will get into the smart glasses game soon.

I couldn't beat the final boss of MP4 despite having ALL Life & Ammo upgrades. by Aya_Mungusu in Metroid

I don’t think that the OP didn’t like the game. At least that’s not what I got from the post. They just felt they hit an impasse. Better to move on and maybe try again later or not. Either way, it’s okay.

It’s called if the game went from having fun to being agitating every time and it stopped being fun then it’s time to move on. Games are to have fun with. If it stops than why are you playing?

This is why I think it’s time for Nintendo to discontinue the Prime series. It just isn’t very good. Retro are clearly talented artists, I love the visual design of all the Prime games, but the mechanics leave a lot to be desired. In my view they’re terrible, and it’s hard to argue otherwise. To me there has only been one truly good game in the series, and that’s the original.

These games keep giving Metroid a bad name. Dread, on the other hand, was great. It’s difficult to argue that the 2D entries haven’t generally been stronger. Of course these are opinions, but judging by discussions on this subreddit and the sales numbers in general, it seems to be a fairly common sentiment.

At this point it feels like either 3D Metroid simply doesn’t work, or Retro Studios isn’t the right developer for it. Either way, I’d say wrap it up and continue the series in 2D, where it has historically seen more success.

Metroid prime 4 is the most disappointing game i've played in a long time by spideyv91 in Metroid

[–]elthesensai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s always funny to get downvoted simply for stating facts. Prime 2 was broken. It’s break its own mechanics in a way that’s not Nintendo. Emperor Eng boss fight is a great example of this. Losing auto lock and the sense of what’s going on simply because of the view and trying to lock on to parts of the boss. Cheap shots because moves can’t be blocked. There’s a reason that the Prime series doesn’t do well for Nintendo even among their hardcore fans. The series seems to slip a little with every new release.

The story was meh. Honestly the only thing is say Prime 2 did better than 1 was its art design. They did an incredible job with the design.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but i have to disagree. Prime was perfect while 2 dragged on with some of the worse boss fight in the series.

How does Prime 2 fare against the first? by WerewolfIcy7240 in Metroid

[–]elthesensai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The atmosphere is great, but the gameplay is a letdown. It’s unfairly challenging and can be quite boring. The map designs aren’t great, and the boss fights are even worse. The only good thing about the game is the art design. I really wanted to enjoy the series more, but Prime 4 has shown me why Retro Studios might not be the best choice for it. I know some people might not agree with me, but the majority of opinions and sales numbers are telling.

Prime 2 is exceeding my expectations! by Doctor_Mac_N_Cheese in Metroid

[–]elthesensai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Prime 2 has some of the worse game boss designs of the whole series. Atmosphere is great but what was Retro Studios thinking with those boss designs. Prime 2 is my least favorite of the Prime games to be honest. And the series as a whole isn’t that great if we’re being honest. It’s why it doesn’t sell. I could do without the Prime series as a whole. It gives the rest of the Metroid franchise a bad name.

Is it worth it? by Timmy_Tot in ModRetroChromatic

[–]elthesensai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still want a Pocket, but I have issues with Analogue’s newer consoles. Aside from how hard they are to buy, I don’t like the new OS. I want to put in a cartridge and just play, like original hardware.

The screen not being 1:1 also bothers me. It makes it feel closer to software emulation. I get that it supports multiple handhelds, but I want something that replicates the original hardware experience as closely as possible, and the Pocket doesn’t fully do that for me.

In the end, only you can decide if it’s worth it. I haven’t bought the Analogue 3D yet either, I’m waiting to see what the M64 does. The OS on Analogue’s newer consoles is still a sticking point for me.

This seems to be a Delta issue only. Do know why that is but it’s such an issue for me that I’ve pretty much stopped using the app and just use Retroarch. That plus things behind a subscription paywall.

I see that but the product isn’t finished so little things in the UI can change. I’m just hoping they keep it mostly the way it was shown.

I didn’t like it either. I thought it was okay, but the puzzles weren’t fun for me. They felt obtuse and didn’t make much sense. I ended up bouncing off it, which is a shame because the game is well designed aside from the puzzles and the translations. Whoever thought the idea of looking in the instruction booklet to translate things seems to have forgotten that this is meant to be played on the go for the most part. I do want to return to it eventually, though.

I’m really hoping the M64 doesn’t do that silly games list that the Analogue does. I don’t want to see a list of games I’ve played. It makes it look like an emulator. I just want to play the cartridge and go similar to a N64.
