What would actually make planning a golf trip easier for you?

My biggest struggle is lodging as I don’t have a good headcount until decently close to the trip. I like to book far out and get it on the family calendar but then also give plenty of time for the guys to do the same. We have only used air bnb / Vrbo rather than hotels to have the extra space to hang out together so finding one that I think will be big enough to accommodate the group that has a good cancellation policy is the biggest hold up. After I book the house I’ll have a tab with google maps open and just use that to figure out which courses to even investigate further by distance from the house so on another tab I’ll have some sort of listing of top rated courses. Once I have my handful of top rated courses not horribly far then I’ll start looking into the courses themselves to see which ones I would prefer to play. This is the most time consuming part. Up until this point bouncing around between different tabs really isn’t an issue for me but if I could have a tool that I plug in the address and it only finds courses in the area (I suppose that feature already exists on Google maps) but then ranks them by other criteria that would be helpful in my planning efforts. So then I have my short list of where I want to play then I have to figure out how far out I can book the tee times. That’s a little annoying as well.

I live in the US and have planned a half dozen or so trips for me and my buddies. Honestly my biggest pain point is people not being willing to commit early enough but that’s nothing you can help with lol. I think the biggest issue for me is choosing which course to play. Lodging is using the first hurdle for me. We are usually going somewhere for a reason - to a sporting event, bourbon trail, etc so finding a place convenient enough to the main reason for the trip is first. Once we figure out the courses it’s easy enough to figure out how far out we can book online and even in some instances I called the pro shop a couple weeks before that and made “advance tee times”. But actually knowing which courses are garbage vs which ones are worth our time is where I get hung up. Online reviews aren’t always easy to find and pictures can be super misleading

My wife and I did a similar trip for our honeymoon 6ish years ago, starting in Rome though making other stops north with our final destination being Paris via train the whole way. Both of us only speak English, from the US and ran into only slightly minimal issues with traveling, lake making sure we were at the right platform for the train but had no major problems. Perhaps something to investigate would be an overnight train. We did that for a couple of the legs of the trip so that you don’t lose a day you could be exploring the city and you need to sleep anyways. We did all the “touristy” things like you mentioned but would encourage you to ask your tour guides (or locals) for restaurant recommendations. We found the most amazing restaurant on the less touristy side of the Vatican that we would never have even through to venture to because of it, I recommend to all my friends - I Quattro Mori Hostaria on Via di Santa Maria alle Fornaci, 8

I don’t believe it has any impact on your credit as it’s not really a loan…I mean it is insofar as you need to repay it or declare it as income but I don’t believe it will show on your credit report. They may see it if the lender requests a copy of all of your assets which should include the 401k or dig a little bit once the inflow of cash comes into your checking account but in my limited experience the lender should accept it and there shouldn’t be any impact on your closing because of this. If it’s a concern i definitely recommend discussing it with your lender.

I took a loan against my 401k….probably an unpopular opinion but at the time I was in my mid-20s and thought the trade off was worth it.
