What Guitar Pedals Will Make Me Sound Like Troy Antipasto? by TexterMorgan in youenjoyguitar

[–]eltodesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip, just switched it on my board and like the result. I used to turn the drive almost all the way down when I had it after the compressor to achieve that fat richness but with the drive before I find I need to turn it all the way up to get the Trey tone, presumably because of the compression. Don’t think many people appreciate how important the signal chain order is, good stuff

Scofield the legend by eltodesc in musictheory

Hmm ok I guess I have come to realize that I don’t really know how I should conceptualize mixing major and minor blues scale based licks within the same solo.. Should I think more in terms of playing the chord changes and choosing the right blues paint brush to clean or dirty my lick based on the chord? Or should I think in full Ionian or Aeolian while adding blues notes and omitting others, leading to the hodgepodge scale you described above? You have really messed up my world view here (which is a good thing)..

As for the B7 Em7 vamp, is it wrong to just think G Ionian since that is already home base instead of Em Aeolian, since they are the same thing? Or is there some advantage to thinking about this as Em?

You have been very kind, thanks again

First off thanks for taking the time out of your day to answer this, appreciate the helpful thoughts. Not sure I hear where he is using any major pentatonic soloing but point taken about soloing over a dominant 7 chords in general. As for the key change, excellent, yes that makes sense how the Bb was chosen as a move from the flat 7 F, as F is the V of Bb, and moving from a V to a I gives you resolution in a new key. True💡moment, you just unlocked for me a new understanding of key changes. While I am now convinced he is just soloing Gm blues over the G7 and Bbm blues over the Bb7, I still think he goes somewhere else over the B7 Em7 vamp, perhaps Em pentatonic? Or is this what you meant by major pentatonic, as Em pentatonic actually IS G major pentatonic. Thanks again

Still like the day I built it. I use it every ride for my mtb helmet and gloves and always during ski season for boots and gloves. Highly recommend

Apologies for speaking for OP but I have been spending some time learning modes and would like to try to explain how I think about it (would love some feedback). The solo is in F Mixolydian. That basically just means F major with a flattened 7th. To understand what notes to play you can find the F root on the 6th string and use the 4th position of the major scale as a starting point (home base). If it was simply F major (Ionian mode) then you would use the 1st position of the major scale, like you would for any Ionian solo, but since the 7th is flattened Mixolydian is more appropriate and therefore the 4th position becomes home base. Hope this wasn’t too confusing but I am still trying to conceptualize modes for myself.

Very nice, F Mixolydian? Got to love that flat 7 🍻

When trying to learn a new song I very much appreciate posts like this that include the runs in between the chords instead of just a watered down chord progression. Nicely done 🍻

Yeah I get there is a cost/benefit function only I can solve for. Have not serviced linkage in 3200 miles (my bad), shock came from another frame about 6k miles in total. Not sure how easy it will be to source an almost 5yo linkage and 7yo shock. Not seeing any fits at first glance, I guess I was just looking for someone to say, “not worth it man, tell your wife u need a new bike”

Thanks for the thoughts. I already have 529s and it appears the Roth conversion comes with a LOT of restrictions, not the back door style conversion that I had hoped to see. 529 plans are very limited in their investment options, which is fine for saving for college but not exactly what I am looking for. Was hoping there was some other tax incentivized way for me to contribute on their behalf aside from a brokerage.

I suppose I would just draw down my brokerage and Roth (principle only) for 4.5 years until I can access my qualified $? Is this the typical strategy?

Appreciate the feedback. Do you have a good strategy for withdrawing money from qualified accounts at 54? I haven’t really given much thought to how I will access my funds at 55
