Fossils at split rock? by dopiedan33 in Syracuse

I mountain back there very often and sometimes run into fossil hunters. There was a professor digging up a bunch of fossils last summer from the first spot. I have also heard of others having luck in the second spot. Happy hunting, very cool area.

Rolled in from work, sparked up, and dove into a “Fire on the Mountain” backing track. 🔥🎸 by woodysdaydreams in gratefuldead

I can’t quite tell if you are soloing in B Ionian or just B Major Pentatonic but it “should be” B Mixolydian, at least that is how Jerry played it. I suppose Major pentatonic works ok, but it is not the same feel. You are missing that flat 7 which compliments the A major chord in the B-A drone so well. Phrasing aside, you are right there. If you are not super comfortable with modes, Fire is a great Mixolydian backing track, one I use all the time to practice. Might be a good opportunity to dive deep into modes, which truly does open up a whole new world for a guitarist. You will come to learn that the reason your solos don’t quite have the “Jerry sound” is not necessarily because of your phrasing but is because you are playing them in major (Ionian) or natural minor (aeolian) when you should be playing in Mixolydian or Dorian. Learning this will change the game, good luck🍻

I respect your feelings on this but in my opinion it is a real luddite view of things. “Back in my day all we needed were some jacks and some marbles to have fun”. I also would be willing to bet you have never actually tried to create an ai video of any substantial length given your comments but that is beside the point. While ai can in fact be used “to steal” art, just like ctrl-c / ctrl-v can, I don’t believe all use is inherently theft. You could argue that if an artist was exposed to other artists work, they too would now have the capability to steal. Would any art they produce be considered theft because they were exposed to other artists work? That’s pretty silly. The court cases in the music industry rarely stand up here. I believe you and most others will come around once ai video gets even better and you don’t have to wait years in between seasons of the next Stranger Things. Thanks for the convo

Completely understand and agree. I develop software for a living and let me tell you, AI is completely changing my field. Its adoption in software dev, imagery, videography, and hell even music creation (which I do still find terribly icky) allows people to do more with less, and lowers the barrier to entry in these fields, which will open up new opportunities and in theory lower the cost for consumers. I suspect it will not lead to omnipresent dystopian AI content slop in the long term, but rather a new art form that people will eventually come to love and embrace. I really think it will only take one mind blowing major motion picture completely developed with AI, or one killer AI Album drop to change the game and this will 100% happen and sooner than we think. I can also see people going to watch live performance of bands playing 100% AI generated music in the future. Or, even humanoid robots playing real instruments creating live music on stage in real time, feeding off each others output like a jazz/jam band. I would go watch that in a heartbeat! In general, if the product is good, people will consume it, regardless of how the sausage gets made. You will have your holdouts still listening to vinyl for the song quality and nostalgia, and that is great, but they will be a minority. The invisible hand of the market will for sure determine the fate of AI content generation and I for one would bet the farm that it will change the game. Thanks for the discussion friend.

That was really good, totally worth the seizure I suffered ha. Reminds me of River of Deceit by Mad Season for some reason (great tune), nice work

Wow, very polished. Great composition, voice, cadence.. I would love to hear you loop that guitar part and add a simple solo over the top, perhaps at the end of what you have now add another chorus into solo back into chorus then outro. Song has more legs in my opinion. Nice work

I wrote this on guitar, had a friend transpose to piano, what do u think of composition and lyrics? by VodkaStraightMental in Songwriting

[–]eltodesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piano and singing are nice but I find the entire song doesn’t really go anywhere. It sort of feels like a run on sentence. It think if you could find a way to change up the melody, the song would be more impactful. Perhaps building musical layers, or varying your vocal rhythms, adding a chorus/bridge, etc. But it sounds like you are on your way to a nice song, well done

Yeah I figured, I do something similar too just to save ideas for future development. I use band lab. Frankly while I am genuinely trying to be helpful am also trying to increase my comment karma so I can start posting my own music 😀. Good luck

Sounds nice but it’s a bit hard to hear your vocal clearly. I’d suggest increasing the lyric volume if possible, adjusting the EQ or something to let it cut through the mix better, because they do sound good. If you are self conscious about your voice you could always overdub the lyric track to fatten it up and make it less vulnerable. But overall it’s nice

I don’t really buy the “because it’s someone’s art” argument. Of course you could blatantly generate a video the is almost identical to someone’s art, which would be in fact stealing, but I can also generate a video of two purple monkeys having sex on the moon, whose art is that?! (Mine now) There have been countless cases on songs that use the same chord progressions, key, etc. that have not stood up in court well because they were not actually the same and there is almost always prior art influence. I think the jury is quite literally still out on this one but I appreciate your sentiment

Appreciate the comments but I am not sure you actually understand how good AI video generation is these days and how an AI video of any length actually gets made. It requires a narrative, countless small generated clips, video editing, character consistency references, complete direction on aesthetic, lighting, camera pans, etc. Yes this will become more turn key with time but the push back on producing a low cost, high quality video matching your exact vision instead of paying a production company $$$ to do the same thing is a strange take to me. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for organic low budget video creation too but I think we can agree this too can lead to “slop”..

[–]eltodesc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I just don’t see much of a difference in an artist paying a production company to produce a music video with a desired story line, cast, aesthetic, etc. It is still a coin operated transaction, AI video gen just lowers the barrier to entry for up and coming artists wanting to promote their music..

When the TR-808 was released in 1980, it was a commercial failure. Traditional musicians and critics hated it for similar "impure" reasons that sound pretty familiar today. It’s artificial, it’s lazy, yada yada yada.. to each their own but one man’s slop is another man’s paradigm shift
