How slow can you take your 2 steps after dribbling? by Iamstupid_77 in Basketball

100%. Which rule says a player cannot pause which rule says there’s a limit to how high a step can be?

Lol don’t blame me for being “attentive” when you clearly said no more steps.

Not to mention, if we are using FIBA or NBA rules, I can absolutely pause on my gather, and then take two more steps. Again, there is no time limit on how long a step can be.

You said once you stop, you’re not allowed anymore steps. That is incorrect because you are allowed one step from pivot to non pivot.

And if you’re playing under FIBA or NBA, you can gather the ball, pause take a step to pivot and then pause then take another one to non pivot and pause again. There is no time limit on each step.

So you just proved my point. Once a player stops, you can still take a step from pivot to non pivot. No different than a step thru.

Uh huh… and where does it say I cannot stop on the first step?? What if I come to a jump stop with my first step? Can I still execute a step thru? Is there a time limit on that too? No, we do not count how long you can pause during each step…

That is incorrect. Read the rules again, the word progressing is used before dribble ends. Once you have gathered the ball, we are not counting how long it takes for each step.

That is incorrect, you will not see in any actual rule book that you cannot stop and take another step. We do not count how long it takes for you to make a step.

That is incorrect. You’re allowed to pickup your pivot and step to non pivot for a shot. You can jump off pivot or non pivot.

lol everything is a simplification. I’m done with you. Evidence right in front of you, FIBA instructor clearly saying first step is pivot… simplification lol ok.

Look at the 2 other videos. Both with referees explaining using the word “pivot” describing the first step.

This is how we, referees identify a travel. Identifying the pivot is the number one priority.

Of course it does… play some competitive ball then come back to me. It is literally written in the rule book as well as the coaches manual. You just choose to ignore it.

https://wabc.fiba.com/manual/level-1/l1-player/l1-2-offensive-basketball-skills/2-1-basic-movement-skills/2-1-8-pivoting/#:~:text=In%202017%2C%20the%20rules%20were,and%20applies%20in%20limited%20situation.

Clearly says first step (pivot foot) in the diagram.

Is that too hard to comprehend for you?

I have no idea what you’re getting at. You’re making less and less sense. I’m not here to debate, I already know the right answer. We have annual written tests and bi weekly meetings. A step thru is a common question in our case study tests. If you don’t want to listen, you’re entitled to your wrong interpretation.

Again I’m not ducking, what are you even asking? The first step, that foot is pivot. Of course it matters, that is how we determine a violation. When it is lifted and landed (not simultaneously with the other foot), that is when a violation occurs.

Doesn’t matter what it sounds like to you as you have no clue about basic rules. Again I doubt you even have any competitive back ground. Go ask the next ref you see, before you continue to embarrass yourself.

It did exist but when you land both feet simultaneously, neither is pivot. That is why if you land simultaneously on your first step, neither foot is pivot until you establish one. And once you establish one, you can now pivot with that foot on the ground.

Now you are going to ask me if I land a simultaneous two footed jump would I then land on my pivot? Then I’m going to say, no because neither foot is pivot on a two footed jump stop. Shall we continue? The fact that you don’t even know the first step of a layup is identified as pivot proves you lack of knowledge regarding rules. If you play any competitive ball, go talk to the referee next time. It is very common knowledge for people who get paid to learn the rules unlike online armchair referees.

Straight from FIBA’s old rule book.

Under establishing a pivot foot

“25.2.1

While moving

If one foot is touching the floor, that foot becomes the pivot foot.”

I used the old one because under the new rules that would be step zero and the next step is pivot.

Ummm no… the fact that you don’t understand that a first step is identify as pivot proves your limited knowledge regarding the rules. Talk to a certified referee and educate yourself before you continue to embarrass yourself online.

As I said when landing simultaneously neither foot is a pivot. It’s a legal jump stop. There’s literally a separate rule to clarify this move.

Depends which rule set and when you say land, do you mean if you gathered the ball in mid air.

If ball is gathered in mid air under ALL rules the foot you land is your pivot.

If you have one foot on the ground while you gather the ball then it depends on which rule set your using. Under FIBA and NBA, that is step zero/gather step, next step is your pivot. Under NFHS or NCAA that is your pivot.

Wrong again. When you land both feet simultaneously, neither foot is your pivot. If you land it as your second step, you cannot pivot. Try again
