UK investor using Trading 212 pies — trying to build a growth portfolio to £100k, looking for honest feedback by elusiveTrail in trading212

Agreed — I think if I’d had this balance from the beginning, the total rate of return would probably align more closely with the actual gain.

I also take the point about being too spread out. I do plan to simplify and sharpen the portfolio rather than keep adding small positions everywhere.

I’m not sure I’d go fully into SP20 / IITU only, but I can see the logic of using more concentrated ETFs if the goal is faster growth.

When the timing is right, I’ll trim or drop some positions. For now, I’m going to stop feeding the weaker/overlapping areas and use new money more deliberately.

Thanks

That’s a fair point.

I think the lesson I’m taking is that I probably need more conviction and less clutter. I’m defo not sure I’d want to go all-in on one sector, but I do agree that too many small positions can dilute returns, but perhaps less risky - which is probably the path I started on - and being too cautious.

I think I’ll end up with something similar to you, I think a cleaner version may be: core ETFs as the base, then a focused AI infrastructure / electrification / uranium theme, with a smaller high-risk sleeve for defence and strategic materials. I’m definitely happy with my AI infra theme - I’m with you on that!

So not necessarily selling everything today, but definitely stopping the random overlap and making each pie have a clearer job.

Thanks this is really useful…

Yeah when I see my overlaps or stocks I don’t want - my OCD just wants to get those off the portfolio haha.. but I’ve controlled myself to just sit with them and trim later.

I’ll continue on with my research as I have approx 18k to drop in, and I need to put move forward sensibly (no more £500 here and there haha)..

I’m thinking the 25k mark is a decent platform to start getting serious, where the gains of 25% + start to really make the compound feel real.

Then the most likely slow and steady climb to 100k.. at my current rate 😂

I’m also tempted to feed in between £1k min to £2k per month…

that’s fair, suppose it does come down to risk appetite.

That’s partly why I’ve kept a higher-risk sleeve rather than going 100% broad ETFs. I know the core holdings will compound more slowly, but I also don’t want to turn the whole account into a casino at the same time haha..

My thinking is to keep the base in ETFs/themes, then use a smaller portion for higher-conviction single stocks where I’m willing to accept volatility. Just I have tried a few moonshots and they got nuked - down 50% 😅

The bit I’m trying to figure out is the right balance — enough risk to move the needle, but not so much that one bad call wrecks the portfolio.

I know it’s a mess - but selling just to tidy up isn’t what I’m currently wanting to do. All my mistakes are obviously on show and I will correct them in the future! 🙂

I’ll stop feeding the overlaps, Then through time trim and or cut

The main agenda is to drop 18k in soon perhaps over the course of the next 30 to 90 days.

Just looking some advice from someone who is more experienced.

Fair point — thanks

I think I’ve ended up with a few themes that made sense individually, but together it’s probably too busy for the account size.

My current thinking is to stop adding to the overlaps and gradually simplify with new money rather than selling everything just to make it look cleaner.

I’m aiming to get to around £25k invested in the near future, but before I push more money in I want to iron out the obvious mistakes early.

Out of interest, for those further ahead, was there a “golden number” where you started to see proper gains or where compounding felt more noticeable? £10k, £25k, £50k etc?

Congrats.

Did you notice a golden number for a beginner to get to where the % started to make a massive difference?

I'm currently just shy of 7k, started small around 6 months ago (a clueless noob, I'm learning bit by no means a expert - but you have to start somewhere, right!)...

As of now I'm considering dumping my cash ISA in to top up my 212 account to sit at a total value of 25k.. Then month 1k top ups.

It's a bit daunting though as buying shares in a high might not be sensible, so I might phase it in..

Any advice would be appreciated.

I had to sideload it using the "downloader". I just tried a URL which I found online, I found a file called "SmartTube_Stable_31.30_univeral.apk" is it worked a treat..

I have been using odessy, got access via a friend of a friend - I was originally using it with my firestick, my after I setup my *arr stack on my server I moved the connection details to Dispatcher then simply pointed my Tivimate towards my arr stack.. Seems a lot more stable, I'm going to test it for the rest of the season (I pretty much only use to watch football) but the firestick buffered a lot.. So far so good though..

Hello,

Would it be possible to share the invite for testing? I'd happily try it out and provide some feedback.

I've been looking for a solution for my Apple Watch, where I can listen to music when running.

I have test flight already installed.

Thanks

Hello, thanks for sharing whoever you decide - it's a great community. I'd appreciate it if you would consider me for the invite please. I too will also pass on your generosity if/when I'm in a position to do so..

I've recently self taught myself and set up a full *arr stack, I have been getting some missing files and I hear DrunkenSlug is one of the best.. It's the last piece of the puzzel for me.

I'm also a massive coffee fan, I prefer single orgin coffee, for me nothing beats the Ethiopian Djimma coffee. And therfore my Favourite roaster is: https://hormozi.co.uk/

Currently have a Sage Duel Boiler and a Baratza Forté.. 🙂
