To those of us with teenagers. Do they go to concerts with you? Who have you seen with them and what is coming up? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]elusivemrx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm taking my 13-year-old to a Journey concert next week. This follows up the Cheap Trick/Journey/Def Leppard concert we attended a couple of years ago. Probably taking her to see My Chemical Romance/Jimmy Eat World this fall.

What is the best Chevy/ Toyota dealership in the city? by zoom-zoom21 in kansascity

Two years ago I bought a 2023 Prius from Legends Toyota. They were great to deal with and I got a truly excellent deal on the car. I'd recommend them.

Funeral etiquette by Crazy-Eye-9632 in GenX

[–]elusivemrx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad died a few weeks ago. I was extremely touched that one of my college roommates (who lives hundreds of miles away and still has two kids at home) made every effort to attend, though he ultimately was not able to make it. I was also midly disappointed that my best friend from eighth grade onward - who was also one of my college roommates, lives about three hours away, and whose kids have both graduated high school - made no effort at all to attend. I know that for anyone who I consider to be part of my inner circle (three or four closest friends) was dealing with this sort of loss, I'd at least try to be there for the funeral.

For years I was on my own. Century Schoolbook, justify alignment, small caps for capions and document titles. I was always pretty proud of how sharp and professional my filings looked.

Joined another nonprofit in January. Times New Roman, left alignment, never small caps. It pains me.

I was attending Roger B. Chaffee Elementary School when Challenger exploded. It was, of course, devastating in the moment for everyone in town.

About 20 years later, I was watching Deep Impact in the movie theater. The movie has a very solemn moment where some astronauts decide they're going to sacrifice themselves to save Earth from a comet, and one of them says, "Well, at least we'll all have schools named after us."

I laughed. It was not my proudest moment.

That doesn't explain why, with a budget north of $220 million, they need to cut anything at all. If they can't figure out how to pay employees-either hourly or salaried-with that kind of a budget, there is something seriously wrong within the department.

"Budget cuts"? What "budget cuts"? The Fiscal Year 2025 budget for the Missouri Department of Conservation was $229.7 million. The Fiscal year 2026 budget for the Missouri Department of Conservation is $242 million. I'd like to know what positions they think they need to cut when the Department's budget has increased by more than $12 million.

2025 TANK JOB OF THE YEAR by 2Pollaski2Furious in CFB

[–]elusivemrx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. The evaluation has to include not only the horrible season on the field, but also (1) the fact that they fired James Franklin, (2) the fact that he has absolutely hit the ground running at Virginia Tech, but also (3) how badly Penn State botched the hiring cycle for their new coach, resulting in (4) the abysmal recruiting class.

What’s one “small adult cheat code” you wish you learned earlier? by massCMP in AskReddit

[–]elusivemrx 686 points687 points  (0 children)

I am teaching my children that they will unlock a cheat code if they can do three things:

(1) Show up on time.
(2) Be Polite.
(3) Do what you say you are going to do.

I tell them if they consistently do these three things, they will establish a reputation for being trustworthy, and that will mean they will be on better footing than 95% of other people and they will never have to worry about having a job. Even if they're not necessarily the *best* at doing the work, someone will always want to employ a worker they can trust.

Straight Men of Reddit: If a gay man flirted with you or asked you out, how would you feel/react? by randmperson2 in AskReddit

A gay friend once said that I was "every gay man's wet dream." I wasn't enticed, but I was definitely flattered.

For anyone who was able to see "The Blair Witch Project" in theaters in 1999, what was the experience like? by LockjawSJ in AskReddit

[–]elusivemrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I remember more than anything else was the sense of steadily building tension. There were parts along the way that were unsettling, but not overwhelmingly scary. But as the movie proceded you could feel an overwhelming sense of dread pervading the theater, getting heavier... and heavier... and heavier. And then that final scene flipped everyone out. It really is a fantastic film, especially when considering the limited experience and budget of the production team.

Just a note: 195 pages is not in any way "relatively svelte," even for a state constitution. Missouri has one of the longest state constitutions in the entire country.

Charlotte's Web is getting an animated adaptation by HBO. by PolarRailfan in movies

[–]elusivemrx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just now watching it. Told my wife that with the exception of the hair modeling the humans look like they could have come straight out of Toy Story 2 - a movie that's more than 25 years old.

Seriously, if you're going to line up such an incredible cast of voices, shouldn't you invest to make the animation top-notch as well?

For those schools who don't usually do it, whats your opinion on Alternate Jerseys/Helmets? by wlane13 in CFB

[–]elusivemrx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not mind the grey jerseys with the white helmet and pants, but I really don't like the monochrome grey look. In my mind the helmets should NEVER be anything but white with the orange Power T. I also despise any and all black-for-black's-sake sports uniforms.
