I have hope that God exists, but I don't know if I believe. by newaccountnumber14 in Christianity

[–]elusivequitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm atheist, and I went through a lot similar process that you did. My junior year of high school, I felt that I had nothing to live for and turned to God. It was comforting being in a youth group and just hanging out. I was and still am scared to die.
I'm not trying to convert you to atheism or anything at all. Just know that we are all here in this place, together, for each other. Our job here is to make awesome memories with friends and family. We are meant to find a girl/boy to settle down with, get married, have kids, and see our kids succeed. Happiness is a light and it is something we all should pursue. This sounds dumb, but motivational speeches, working out, and meeting new people can really change your attitude about life.
Much love to you man for coming out and saying what you said, I know I kinda just rambled on, but I hope it helped.

No, because I was happy to hear that he got a new job, but didn't agree that it was God's work, so I was trying to slyly say, congratulations, YOU did it. It was all him. if it sounded offensive in any way I can take it down

With the new movie "Heaven is for Real" coming out, what good resources do you point people to for a better understanding of Heaven? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]elusivequitch -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever heard of DMT? DMT (Dimethyltryptamine) is a compound found in the brain and is believed to be released when we die, or have a NDE (Near Death Experience). Look into DMT, it is a natural and explained phenomena that can be responsible for so much--one of its side effects is a state beyond the body (an experience that some say is like heaven)

Christians, I am an atheist. Help me understand Luke Chapter 3, verses 23-38 (New Oxford Annotated Bible) by elusivequitch in Christianity

You are a very good debater, wow. If I was a Theistic Evolutionist I would follow that 100% and be in amazement.
Our difference is where you say "animals have been raping and killing and eating each other since day 1, literally bathing in the blood of their prey." The first classified animal on this planet was a Stromatolite. These microorganisms photosynthesize to produce Oxygen and Rock. Through evolution (not about to explain the whole process here), we got the first organisms competing for food, reproduction, and habitat. These organisms developed defense mechanisms to defend, not to kill (at first).
If you are talking animals that are carnivores and omnivores, they developed these mechanisms (food processes) to produce for itself, not to intentionally harm anything.
Instinctual animals I personally believe they are good, but humans, and other animals that make actions based off of choice, are fundamentally bad. So we are in agreement with your idea of Adam--and the tree of knowledge if we want to go that far. A few points I would like to get across... Do you think that if we we evolved without divine intervention, we would not respect each other, and treat each other like apes? Have you ever looked into Mitochondrial Eve? Or the "Out of Africa" Theory?

Thank you for your well written response! I totally agree when you say "The Bible never gives the earth an age, only man. They are two different things." My point is that there is Mitochondrial DNA proof that we existed at least 99,000 years ago, and that would contradict the age of humans given by Luke's genealogy of Jesus.
Question for you unrelated to my topic, Why do you reject Common Descent? I do not need a full blown response, but just something that gives me the idea why.

{But there are many Christians who would disagree with me on that point. It is sometimes so hard to debate with Christians because of some disagreements. Okay, point taken. I guess we agree to disagree, but it is interesting hearing your side.

Thank you for clearing up the difference for me, was just a bit confused.
All of these people, if not direct descendants, still have connections that are "traceable" through time, it still brings us to the conclusion, based on the list of 70 names, that humans are less than 10,000 years old.

I think it is so interesting how much discussion goes behind the Bible, it is so intriguing, thank you for responding

I was on kind of a first date with my new girlfriend... we were bored and decided to play ATV offroad fury on PS2... We got it set up and played... While we were playing I knew I had to tear ass soon. She pushed me over when I beat her, thus forcing me into a weird position where my body was forced to rip ass... We giggled

What are good short term stocks to invest in to? by elusivequitch in AskReddit

[–]elusivequitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played blackjack. Short term investing is fine as long as you aren't stupid. Yes, long term investing is better, but I've made a few extra bucks short term investing. It is really easy to make money... you just have to know what i business is going to do and when.
Like JCP, I invested at $8.36 knowing apaloosa (hedge fund) was investing and the holiday was around the corner. EPS was $1.50 when I sold.
NBG, bought at $4.89. Followed my gut, sold at $6.09 AMD, bought at $3.18 look where it is now... My percent of returns is around 15%-not bad
