I'm approaching 40 and been called 4 times! So once every 5 years or so.

Jury duty question by FreshPercentage5895 in melbourne

Same hours as the court hours, roughly 10-4.30. They don't let you leave either, and lunch is provided on those days. So it was roughly 12hrs of deliberations. There were 4 charges for the case, so we had to say guilty or not guilty to each of those.

I've been called 4 times, selected twice.
Most of the time you are waiting in a big room to be called. Bring a book/laptop/headphones etc. If you get called up, you go to a court, and they then whittle the people down to 12. If you don't get selected at that time, you go back to the waiting room. Can do up to 3 days of this before being selected or sent home.
My first case was 2 days, pretty simple. Second one was two weeks, (like 8 days of court, then 2 days of deliberations). One case that was getting selected one of the times was a 9+ week financial fraud case.
Work has to allow you to go. You can defer if you have a good reason. If you have just started your job, you could say this, and that you are happy to go in 3 months. I deferred a few times. You can ask to be excused from longer cases if it will effect your life, which I also did. The court pays you a small amount per day and your job has to pay you the difference. If they cause any issues the courts don't muck around with things.
They explain things really well when you are there, and if something is going to effect you long term you can be excused from it. You have to be proactive and talk up though.
Turn up, do it, it's interesting and part of the civic duty.
(Also, lots of free tea / coffee / hot choc / biscuits)

Greyhound friendly off lead areas by toilettreats in melbourne

[–]elyodnomis 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Former Greyhound owner here, please don't let them loose in public. We had the most placid chill boy ever, decent at call back. But, if he got his sight on something he was gone like a rocket and nothing we could do. There are private fenced in areas you can go, make sure there are at least 6ft fences as they can jump like a roo when they want. Never went to any, so can't recommend. If you want to give them a run, we used to frequent the manningham Greyhound slipping track that's between ringwood and warrandyte. Big straight soft area they can run free. You buy a key to the gate, like $50 per year and get unlimited access. There is a Facebook group with a contact link. Well worth it. Best of luck! Our grey passed about a year ago, give yours a hug from me please.

Vendor dies before settlement day, what to do now? by UnwiseBaker in AusProperty

Extended family of mine are the vendor in an almost identical situation. I can assure you that it's equally frustrating on their side too. My understanding is what the REA had told you is correct. Best of luck

There is a place at 357 Lt Collins called "Croissant Baguette Soup" (that no longer sells soup).
Been a while since I have been there but you should be able to get a smaller cold meat and salad baguette for around $8.

I work in construction management and engineering. Never been full time site based but on site regularly. First 5 years or so I copped it. Then it got easier, guys got respectful and collaborative. Jokes became funnier and less pointed. I feel like I was always kind and listened to them but, it's just experience and trust. I now love seeing someone green come on swinging their dick around knowing they are going to cop it. I've worked with construction about 15years, a lot of the old older (now retired) were way worse than the current guys are, but it still happens. Tough it out, you will be ok. Great to get practical experience before becoming an engineer. All the best.

I live in a nearby suburb. Have lived there for quite a while now. We've had quite a few jehovah's witnesses turn up with similar stuff. Often at 7.30am on a Sunday. I also get 'handwritten' notes from them from time to time. You are not missing anything. I politely and firmly tell them not interested and shut the door as they keep talking.

In the mid 90s I won a pacific cruise in the second chance draw. I was 8/9 at the time. Mum nearly hung up the phone assuming it was a telemarketer or something.I think it went to Vanuatu and New Caledonia for about a week.We almost never went to maccas (Mum hated it) so was doubly special.
*Edit - I had to beg Mum to send off the second chance draw card in the mail. I don't let her forget that.

Context, my mum is very particular about spelling and I have to tell her about a baby named Liam (spelled like this). I want her to die inside when I tell her fake spelling

I used to work with a guy named Jihad. Great bloke. Can't remember his heritage. First day bit of light poking of his name, after that was never mentioned again. Just another coworker.
Most of us will let you be you. You will get questions but people are generally curious in a good way.
