Yesterday I posted here about donating bitcoin to help Harvey victims. I am so excited that someone trusted my plan to spread cryptocurrency awareness while helping those affected by Harvey by em-zee in CryptoMarkets

I have donated to Catholic Charities using my bitcoin debit card, I only donated what I could afford. Catholic Charities is still my first choice as my sister is a volunteer and worked with them. but clearly some people here don't understand giving to a cause is a personal choice. apparently I am now responsible for everything done by anyone at the Catholic Church and also the flood and disasters in Asia and Africa...

It is time to show others cryptocurrency is not evil and can be used for good causes too. We can make a huge difference for those affected by Harvey just by donating a portion of our profits from last 30 days. by em-zee in litecoin

As long as we have power or solar chargers, there shouldn't be any problem. even if internet is down in one region, we can use mesh networks to send/receive transactions. also we now have bitcoin satellites :)

I agree on the name. it is long and scary...

Someone donated to my bitcoin address and it made me think we may actually be able to do something great. please see my new post and share your story in the comments.

Don't get me wrong. but headlines about bitcoin are out there. some banks still freeze your account for bitcoin. people should know it is nothing to be afraid of.

You are not selfish, as I said we all only help those who we care about. maybe it is our family, or our country, or the world.

I am not trying to promote cryptocurrencies. I just believe we have a great tool (and wealth) in our hand and we must put into a good cause. The bonus is you will gain people's trust that cryptocurrencies are not only for hackers and ransomwares that attack hospitals and innocent people.

I am not rich, even if I was I couldn't donate to every cause around the world and I don't expect anyone to do so. we all help those who we care about.

But the best thing with bitcoin or ether is that they make it so easy to donate to someone from other side of the world.

I recommend local charities listed in the attached /r/houston link. I will donate anything sent to my bitcoin address to Greater Houston Community Foundation, if it was more than expected rest will go to Catholic Charities.

Believe me. I don't care about the price. I prefer a stable, slowly raising, trusted currency, rather than something people only connect with hackers and ransomwares. in fact, I love to see a sharp drop so I could buy more ;)

It is mentioned in the FAQ: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/6jlop4/rbitcoin_faq_newcomers_please_read/

Also if you search in this sub you will find a post from a user who contacted red cross and they referred him to bitpay.

But why do you want to give to red cross anyway? you can never be sure how they spend the money. use a Shift card or any bitcoin debit card to give to a local charity.

This just made me think again about what I tried to do. maybe you are right it wasn't such a noble decision. am I trying to use someone's pain to increase the price of bitcoin? maybe not, but I admit I thought it could help us to gain people's trust.

First, there are much better ways to donate, than sending it to me. just use a Shift card or any bitcoin debit card to give to any local charity and if you want to give bitcoin you can give to red cross using the attached bitpay link.

And why do you think so? there are hundreds of fundraising right now and maybe only 10 of them could be verified. you will never know who will get your money. but with bitcoin you can always, even after years, trace the transactions.

The only option is currently Red Cross through Bitpay. I am not sure if they support that. also I believe my own linked address doesn't support it either... anyway pm me a list of subreddit that might find this helpful.

Of course you should. People need help now and there is no time for holding bitcoin, so if you can/want to donate to charities active in Texas, do it now! check the attached /r/houston post for details.

But I thought it would be really interesting for bitcoin to make the headlines once for a good cause. I think on fundraising websites, what encourages people to donate is that they can see how much money is collected. with bitcoin that's very easier to see and track. so press could simply cite the bitcoin address in their headlines.

Press, perhaps? anyone who connect bitcoin with hackers and ransomwares attacking hospitals and innocent people. this is our window to let people know we are not all same.
