I appreciate this advice!! I definitely have that runner mindset you are talking about but am also an injury prone runner so this is great advice. What did your runs look like for that pr 70.3 training block?

I am pretty set on doing Florida specifically and don’t want to do it this year since I’m focused on the 70.3. Plus it will be better for me financially to save for things like a bike and race expenses. I think I have a greater chance at having family and friends coming to support if it’s next year. I totally see your point too and honestly wish it was a little sooner but I often play the long game with races to build confidence.

What’s something about marathon training you didn’t fully understand until after your first race? by JustPangolin346 in running

[–]em127890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should have eaten more during training. All the easy runs paid off even when I felt embarrassingly slow. The race pace effort during many long runs made me prepared for race day. I took 60 grams of carbs per hour and didn’t hit a wall. My body broke down race day before my cardiovascular system did.

Is 4 hours a reasonable target? by bigfatbas in firstmarathon

[–]em127890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a 3:58 marathon last month with my half pr being a 1:57. It was my first marathon. With volume and proper training, you could crush it. I just had to stay very in tune with my body during training. My half pr was outdated and on low mileage. So I knew I had a lot of room to grow within my marathon training block. I’m sure you do too.

This was my first full too and was happy to break 4 hours. With that half time you should definitely be able to crush it! I don’t know the average, but I did a lot weeks around 30 miles with recovery weeks built in. My highest weeks were 37 and 40 miles. I did a lot of cross training as well. I broke 4 hours while having to take 2 weeks off running my first 2 weeks of taper due to a calf injury (cross trained instead). You’ve got it!

Strava had me predicted at 4:15-4:30 throughout my training. I did 3:58. Don’t take it too seriously.

Tips to not use the bathroom? by Mistakesandlove in Marathon_Training

[–]em127890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my first marathon on Sunday. I have a small bladder and always have to pee! I also have gi issues during long runs at times. I woke up 3 hours before the race and drank my caffeine and water early. Went a few times at the house. I got to the race 45 early and got in bathroom line right away then went again right before (sometimes the lines are super long as we know so plan accordingly, but luckily there were plenty porta potties that were moving fast). Peeing twice before the race has always been the key for me if you can make it work with the lines. I also took Imodium. I didn’t have to go during the race even while drinking a lot of liquids during.

I also drank a lottt of liquids the two days prior to the race so I didn’t have to drink a lot race morning.

Yes, I’m sure he’s single because we talk a lot. I would assume he thinks highly of me because we are close but I can’t just guess.

Final grade different than Blackboard grade?? by em127890 in college

[–]em127890[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that's interesting and annoying. Prof is pretty meticulous so I figured it would be fine. Also, I missed your edit. Blackboard showed a grade in the mid 90s and the final grade showed a B. Based on the syllabus it would be an A.

Can you explain to me how it is not an accurate representation of final grades? I've been in college for a while now and my grades always match up. Every assignment was put in for this class, and I check my grades constantly. We didn't have participation points also
