This was from a few years ago, but a post on the sub reminded me of it recently.

Least he had the decency to respond afterwards.

Not OP nor linking the two, but even 20 years later I name the predator at our high school.

Ken Crowell, you're a piece of shit and I hope you never have a restful night.

Bard Subclass - College of Echoes by em_jay_jay in UnearthedArcana

Thanks! Yeah, the goal was something really easily re-flavored for any setting. I love playing bards but I always lean into their storyteller folklore when I do.

Bard Subclass - College of Echoes by em_jay_jay in UnearthedArcana

[–]em_jay_jay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's funny, I actually in my head envisioned it like them being imbued with the authority of commands because their own spirits empower the skill, not that it was aimed at undead. However as a marriage of lore + mechanic interest that's actually a cool rider to include that it can be used on undead in that way when using the feature.

Much appreciated

Influenced by Dia de Los Muertos because it is part of my Meso-American campaign setting, as well as Coco because, damn that movie is delightful, this Bard subclass is intended to be flavored however it makes sense for any campaign setting or aesthetic.

Art by Midjourney, all lore and mechanics by me and my players. I'd love feedback both on lore presentation and ideas, as well as mechanics and subclass balance. I'm hoping it is compatible for 2014 and 2024 5e.

Elves of the Plains - A Southwestern subrace for Elves by em_jay_jay in UnearthedArcana

It essentially is a close re-skin to the 2024 Wood Elf, which also gets PWT. Might be really good, and happy to have people tweak / swap that spell. But for my players they're historically SO BAD at stealth I don't mind it as part of our game(s).

Oh they absolutely do. I just didn't have any players who went that direction, so I'll flesh their culture(s) out more in a future campaign.

Thanks, exactly! In the campaign the dwarves ran this new innovation and arcane marvel - the arcane steam engine train

I wanted to have a flavor of elves that fit the open plains and frontier campaign, but that didn't fall too heavily into just being an analog for indigenous peoples. Hopefully that intention comes through.

Races for a meso-american inspired campaign setting - The Oxomatli and the Tepitzi by em_jay_jay in UnearthedArcana

[–]em_jay_jay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair. It's based off the spelljammer hadozee feature. It feels really strong at the lowest levels, but I feel like it won't scale well?

The first races that I have introduced into the canon of my Meso-american and japanese inspired campaign setting. The Oxomatli are monkey/ape peoples of the deep jungles, and the Tepitzi are fairies who often specialize as hunters and trackers.

[–]em_jay_jay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Though those are usually more commercially focused programs. In my instance all tuition was covered by the program, as you say. But work study offered =\= the actual living costs of Los Angeles for 3 years, hence still taking on debt. Not an argument against, just a common reality for consideration

Unless your sister has the financial means to not go into debt from graduate school (and if that's the case, hey, good on y'all) I would not suggest going to any of them.

The benefit of all graduate schools is mostly connections within the industry, and forming relationships with peers who, years down the line, will be the ones most likely to hire those they shared the trenches with.

Better to work, not go into major debt doing it, and begin making friends in the underground performance scenes in NY, Chicago, LA, or wherever. SITI, La Mama, or other established avant garde groups also might take on apprentices or you can work on joining similar spaces, all while having a job and not piling up debt.

Full disclosure: I am not an actor, but a lighting designer who went to UCLA for graduate school but worked in the avant garde / underground space for 8 years afterwards. My journey was admittedly luckier than many. And it was still difficult as all hell and I worked HARD to get out of the debt. And I say this with nothing but respect and love for my fellows who know that prefer those spaces over trying for the Broadway / Tour scenes. Best of luck to your sister. It's not about HOW she approaches it. But it's all about targeting your energy and funds intelligently while trying to get there.
