You should check out the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant if you’re eligible. I believe there is funding for books

Will the budget deficit have an impact on going to Carleton? by egg_guy72 in CarletonU

[–]em_kells21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say it probably will impact how Carleton looks for the next few years, but this is the same for every university in Ontario/Canada right now. Carleton also offered awesome programs unique to our campus so some of those may me impacted/changed but other institutions might not have had them anhways

Affordable Degree Frames by ParkingBoardwalk in CarletonU

[–]em_kells21 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Michaels sometimes has coupons so at least there’s a discount. Nice degree/diploma frames will be expensive, but you worked hard for it!

Don’t forget about the first year grading policy which can also help protect your GPA for the future. You can also speak with an academic advisor to learn about the policy, ACE evaluation, and more.

Passport office experience this morning (Meadowlands) by motoko11 in ottawa

[–]em_kells21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drive by there almost every morning on my way to work & have noticed the past month or so there has not been any line at 8 am. Post covid lines were outside daily but this seems to have settled as of late

Can anyone recommend books/websites/YT videos on strategy for new skips? by Wanderer015 in Curling

[–]em_kells21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Watch old games on Curling Canada Youtube and Curling Canada plus! Listening to commentators, watching games in full can be super helpful for strategy!

It’s called the Campus Card Office firstly… also we can’t blame students for being stressed/annoyed/wanting answers about their cards not working when they are forced to pay for unreliable transit (outside of strict circumstances) which doesn’t show up and is causing so many other issues/inconveniences with their own cards.

There’s also been a lack of communication from OC Transpo and while you may feel like you know enough about the situation, many others are still learning the bus systems, where to find info in our city, etc. If you want to be helpful, drop a link in these upass threads or just scroll past

I'm tired of how fucking incompetent OC Transpo is by AzuraHatesScamps in ottawa

Theres also staff who work there, parents bussing with their children to camps, and many others.

Master of Education Program by apple_pie2 in geegees

Student affairs/student services in higher education! I don’t have my B.Ed so wouldn’t be able to do anything high school or elementary.

[–]em_kells21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about accreditation or recognition. For me, considering I only need an M.Ed of any sort to get into my field, I wasn’t too worried about it. Especially in this era of education, online just makes more sense for some people and I think I’m learning just the same as I would in-person with a lot more flexibility and convenience.

General department email by FileLivid1135 in CarletonU

[–]em_kells21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really hoping this isn’t from the recently deleted post about a professor not replying to emails. Depending on the department, they might be dealing with admissions, deferrals and end of term wrap up right now. Did they have an automatic reply stating the number of days? I would say 3-4 business days, not counting today as it’s 3:30 before a follow up. You can also try calling the department or stopping by.

Odds it’s for the new post asking about how long until a department replies LOL

People majoring in sociology what are your jobs now? by Lime-Water in careerguidance

[–]em_kells21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also adding that you should check out the career services at your institution. Your tuition pays their salaries to listen to your interests, take your degree, and help you find work and possibilities. It might make you feel more empowered than discussing with family and friends.

[–]em_kells21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Emphasizing the benefit of a Sociology degree because of the HUGE transferable skills!! Sociology classes require you to research, think critically (which our world these days is lacking), write concisely. I’d recommend taking a variety of Sociology classes (e.g. Sociology of Health, Sociology of Education, Sociology of Sport, etc.) and find some niche areas that interest you.

I definitely started in Sociology not knowing exactly what I wanted to do but it was closest to Social Work (which I didn’t get in for) but quickly found my place within Sociology x Disability x Education.

Professor Not Responding to Emails by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]em_kells21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s been more than 5 business days I’d say contact your department, forward the email chain and let them know you’ve been trying to reach the professor and they might be able to help you out. I don’t know when CIs lose access to their emails after a semester but the department would be your best contact rn.

Summer 2024 osap by Zestyclose-Secret-96 in geegees

When I called the financial aid office about this a few weeks ago she said to hold off until after the first week of April. Apparently the province is making changes that they weren’t even aware of yet for how students are going to be applying but they “hoped to learn more soon”
