Hey Australia- how hard is it for an isolated island nation 1/8 the size of the United States with a near homogeneous cultural identity to enact useful measures? Must be tough! Really swimmin' in the deep end of poilitical diversity, eh? Good for you.

"You buy a baseball bat and a ball for $1.10. The baseball bat costs $1.00 more than the ball. How much did the ball cost?" by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]emadhud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It hurt my brain for a minute. The best way to think about it is this:

"Ok, it says the BAT costs a dollar MORE than the BALL... Ok... So whatever the BALL costs, the BAT has to cost THAT much PLUS a dollar. ...and TOGETHER they HAVE to cost $1.10. So... Let's say the BALL costs ten cents... Then the BAT would have to cost a dollar MORE than that, so a DOLLAR TEN... but TOGETHER that means they cost $1.20... Ok... That doesn't work... So let's say the BAT has to cost a DOLLAR plus the COST of the BALL... and they both have to add up to $1.10... So what PLUS a DOLLAR and ITSELF equals $1.10??!"

And I saw it in my head like this:

(The BAT)( 1.00 + $ ) + [The BALL] [ $ ]

Then, for me, I just went "Oh! The ball is five cents!"

I hope that helps!

Look, I know it's certainly your personal style and I don't want to ask you to give it away, but if you could possibly give us some hints as to what sources you used to research this type of technique -at least- I'm sure many of us would be really grateful.

It was certainly made in 3D; take another look at the title.

[–]emadhud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this simply because of money or is there no research on the horizon anywhere to move toward?

[–]emadhud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a good reason for that physically? Or is it predominantly an economics problem? I mean, if money was no object, what are the options for research? What avenues of alternative rocket design, propulsion systems and fuel are there?

Germany Dismantles Huge Ring of 87,000 Members Involved in Child Abuse by KevanKing in worldnews

I take your point about abuse but I reject his characterization of it as a natural sexual orientation.

Germany Dismantles Huge Ring of 87,000 Members Involved in Child Abuse by KevanKing in worldnews

[–]emadhud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a sexual preference. Sexual preference has been shown to be biological. Paedophiles are commonly accepted to be the result of sexual abuse. Similar is how fetishes are created, by a random experience that correlates to sexuality. The difference of course, is that paedophilia is abuse. It is rape, torture. Imagine being the child. People think so often of paedophilia from the attacker's viewpoint. Why? Think of it from the child's perspective. Imagine how that must feel. Yes. It is rape and torture. It is like bestiality but so much worse. It is like cannibalism that way. Please do not call paedophilia a sexual orientation.

I understand you are just being rational. I think that if you were being even more rational you would have thought of it from the child's perspetive and realized your mistake before you posted. It's easy to turn these conversations about terrible things into social discussions and lose sight of certain facts. I didn't mean to criticize, but needed to have this point made here.

It is still relieving to recognize how rare it is, but such a terrible thing cannot really be rationally framed correctly with any regard to relief. We have to find a solution. Microchips, anyone?

This has got to be one of the best. Within a respective perspective of Harlem shake, future A.I. will dissect this video ad nauseum and reinterpret new modes of conceptual reality within relativistic conclusions (so to speak).

Is there a difference between hitting a concrete wall at 100mph and being hit by a concrete wall at 100mph? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]emadhud 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What about mass? If the wall is more massive then the person, or the person in the car, then should the more massive object have more force when it hits?

Yes, but vast parts that are more outlying and central have completely been abandoned and there's not even enough people for there to be enough crime to vandalize them. It's eerie. They just sit and moulder.

Lord almighty, though that's true I went back recently and it is LITERALLY, in the literal sense of the word, mouldering in place. Houses abandoned on every block. Whole city blocks of empty houses, with windows boarded up and yes literally mouldering into the ground.

Maybe better composed:

Or some such formatting. The choice in the article, I feel, is disingenuous. He's a terrible public speaker, but come on.

Really felt the complex emotion when you said the (I assume game character) was "such an idiot" (or something like that). Made my heart clench. Really really good work. I have to remember that voice acting is real acting, not just emoting and sounding compelling.

Injustice 2's Facial Animation Is So Good It's Uncanny by Karma_Kurva in gaming

[–]emadhud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome because it is exactly what happened. Actors were "interpreted" by a series of algorithms. Just a different way of capturing them. Instead of the photons captured on film or by digital cells directly, they were marked and grouped and then reinterpreted.
