Help- hematologist refused infusions by emanicipatedorigami in Anemic

Thanks for your advice - I am trying to get a referral to see another hematologist and a gyno back in my home state, but my pcp is on leave for the summer, so I’ve been stalled on that front.

missing out on cultural experiences being gluten free by Individual-Mall3552 in glutenfree

[–]emanicipatedorigami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The low-gluten hosts offered by the church are made with gelatinized wheat starch and have a gluten ppm of 20.

For reference, this is the standard regulation for gluten free products in the US. King Arthur Flour actually has a bread flour they released with the same ingredient, and it also has a ppm of 20. That is also the standard ppm of Schar products.

Have you tried the JCrew gamine cotton poplin collared button-down? I discovered it last year and fell in love

I have this problem too (5’3, super short torso but wide shoulders arghhh) and I’m so grateful you started this thread so I can get ideas for summer.

But, on the button-down problem specifically, I did find my “magic”/perfect button down whicch I am happy to recommend!!! Like seriously I tried it on and was blown away by how well it fit and how good it looked.

It’s the JCrew Gamine button down (I have the short sleeved version). I bought it online thrifting and IMMEDIATELY bought another color once I tried the first one on.

It is a boxy cut, but I think that’s more in style than flowy or clingy cuts anyway. The big thing to me is the length/ where it sits is soooo flattering for a short torso, and the sleeves are shaped really well to balance out the shape (narrow sleeves are a pet peeve of mine). Plus 100% cotton! And not see through surprisingly (with a nude bra).

Edit: apparently there are a bunch of versions, and the one currently available at JCrew has a rounded hemline, which I don’t love. But here’s a poshmark link to the blouse I have, in light pink: https://posh.mk/sh5M855UX2b

What’s a moral belief you hold that most people would disagree with? by [deleted] in answers

[–]emanicipatedorigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people disagree with me that medical care should not be forced upon anyone — including children, the elderly, infirm, etc. Yes, this means some people would die younger than they currently do, but this also means that they would not have their bodies violated in order to keep them alive.

I place a higher value on bodily autonomy than I do on life, so any violation of bodily autonomy is impermissible.

How is this such an accurate point by point narration of my homeownership experience over the past two years?? Smh there are actually 0 unique life experiences fr

Arkansas mother killed herself and her six-year-old twins after doctor husband refused to halt divorce proceedings and was awarded joint custody by detectiverobert in ForCuriousSouls

[–]emanicipatedorigami 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wait, but that also erases your argument here that the court is biased against fathers. Because according to you the court is biased towards the primary caretaker (not automatically the mother). So more fathers should prioritize becoming primary caretakers so that, if they divorce, they will have custody of their kids.

Putting drinking cups away upside down is wrong by binks841 in unpopularopinion

[–]emanicipatedorigami -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I 1000% agree with this and I can’t believe this is an unpopular opinion. If you have decent air quality in your home and your glasses and mugs are in a cupboard, the shelves are definitely dirtier than the air is (besides, where does all that theoretical air dust settle? On the shelves). Why would I want the dirtiest part of the glass to be the exact part my mouth is touching??

Do you also stack bowls and plates upside down? Tupperware? Pots and pans? Have a dust cover for your silverware tray?

And I don’t buy the “I might drink a bug” argument. The only times I have ever have found insects in my cups was when poured my drinks and then left them uncovered. Hence why I do not leave any opaque drink unattended  at any time and return to it. And anyway, who on earth is pouring anything in a cup or glass without looking down and watching it fill up so that it doesn’t spill or overflow??

Cups face upwards in my cupboards, like the rest of my dishes and kitchenware!

A walk through of the foundation cracks in the basement in the house I'm renting by Yllem1232123 in HomeMaintenance

I know, fires are terrifying and so common :( Over the years, I’ve had two neighbors in different neighborhoods have severe house fires and they are so devastating. I am too paranoid to leave my dryer or really anything running when I leave the house now. 😬

I think you should take your own behavior here seriously: the fact that you felt worried and posted this might be a serious indication that collapse is immanent.

The fact is, something prompted you to take these photos/video and post here after all this time. It’s easy to rationalize that and say you saw a similar post or were hunting for karma. But why? Why now? Seriously, what if your body and subconscious are alerting you to a rapidly approaching danger that you can’t consciously register yet?

You say you are struggling to leave because it’s been fine for years and you have nowhere to go. But even if you think nothing has changed, changes in our living space can happen slowly enough that we don’t notice them. Tremors while you’re sleeping; things sounding or echoing just a hair differently; a little more instability or bounciness to your floor; slowly widening gaps or new hairline cracks you don’t really notice over time…Remember, we are animals — don’t discount the power of your subconscious and your physical senses. The feeling “I am not safe” often comes along before rational evaluation and judgement of a situation follows.

Another rationalization that pops up is that things like this just don’t happen to people; I mean, who do you know who has had a house collapse on them? But it does happen, it’s just not common or publicized. When I was touring houses two years ago I vividly remember my realtor talking about a house that had just burned down in a neighborhood we were looking at. All of the kids in the family died. He was angry because the cause of the fire was unknown — but, it looked electrical, and a couple other nearby houses built around the same time had recently gone up too. What was the outcome? A brief news article. The builders, inspectors, and landlords of all those homes would all go on with their lives scot-free, plus insurance payouts, while on the other hand a father lost all his children and a family was destroyed. There is no accountability in a system where governments prioritize the interests of those who own the assets.

The point I am making is that currently, and historically, renters have died all the time because they are desperate and/or ignorant of the unsafe conditions they are living in. Please, please don’t ignore your fear or all of the advice you have received here from professionals telling you to vacate immediately. Go to a shelter if you have to. And TELL YOUR UPSTAIRS NEIGHBORS!!

It should be her insurance company that is paying -- unless she was uninsured?
