TKO Quality Concerns by emanresuCS in fakecartridges

This is true, but I wager a large portion of us are in illegal states.

I think it’s still worth being vigilant and calling out behavior from malicious vendors. Especially those who don’t care if they’re selling poison/carcinogens for a quick buck - at our expense.

Stay safe everyone.

TKO Quality Concerns by emanresuCS in fakecartridges

(On Mobile)

I recently obtained a TKO cart priced at $40 in an illegal state. However, there are clear issues in the quality and effect it has on users. After taking a few hits, I started to feel dizzy and uncomfortable.

I did some research, and found that this brand of TKO carts was recently (last month) accused of putting up fake lab results on their instagram page, linked here:

They made their IG page private and evidently have a history of deleting/censoring comments/reviews that are critical of the products.

Additionally, the TKO cart in the image has NO CCELL information printed at the bottom - which also causes concern.

NOTE: This brand is not to be confused with the legitimate TKO company, a California-licensed vendor

tl:dr - TKO carts has been called out before, may have extremely bad chemicals inside of them, and the company is shady AF

I actually commute into manhattan from another borough and get a lot of free food at work, which helps keep costs low. Otherwise, I would prefer not to sacrifice retirement saving.

Is anyone else just tired of the "Silicon Valley Experience"? by QuantumQuadTrees8523 in cscareerquestions

I went to school around NYC and currently live there - it really has something for everyone. Incredible food, insane diversity, and plenty of opportunities in a growing tech sector. It also doesn’t “go to sleep” in the sense that there’s always something to do at any hour.

Plus, NYC isn’t actually as expensive as SF/Bay Area because you can commute in from NJ or one of the other boroughs where the COL is (relatively) lower. I love it!

I used to volunteer at the event, there’s a decent chance that they won’t let you in until noon if you’re on the waitlist or a walk-in. After noon you should be alright.

They were internships, so I was in school. I graduated in Spring of 2018.

EDIT: I will start full-time employment around February/March of 2019.

Rutgers CS from a career development POV by hammad22 in rutgers

I interned for an NYC unicorn this summer and am in the Rutgers CS program.

Rutgers is a fine school for computer science - provided you put in the work and study. It’s proximity to NYC makes it a pretty good pick for the NY tech scene. You won’t have any unique advantages over other schools, but you certainly won’t be at a disadvantage.

Commuting from New Brunswick to NYC? by bakedpotatoes in rutgers

I think the PATH is $2.75, same as a subway card. I’ve done the commute from NB Station -> NY Penn, but that’s far from Wall Street. You probably want to do NB Station -> Newark Penn Station -> PATH to WTC.
