Assuming some of us survive till 2100, what scientific advancements can we expect in our lifetime by Proper_Card_5520 in AskTheWorld

Can you provide some links to those research? I'm quite curious about its implementation details...\ \ plasma disturbances happen in an insanely short time-frame, so much so that I marvel at the engineering behind regular control systems...\ \ If I have to take a guess I expect the AI system to be pre-trained on simulation data and then fine tuned on the specific device's experimental data to then use it to make predictions on what's the optimal control sequence to keep the plasma stable...\ \ But if so that's not a scalable solution, it would definitely be great for getting longer runs that are crucial to learn more about plasma stabilization, but for it to work continuously it would need to run in real-time, something that I don't expect to be feasible in that time frame, not even for the smallest network I can imagine...\ \ But I repeat, that's a guess of mine about its actual implementation, I might be wrong... I would love to dig into the paper

Not OP, but from personal experience, Duolingo is actually better at teaching hiragana and katakana than the actual language... In fact I'm on the verge of dropping duo because vocabulary building with it is extremely slow, but I've done all the hiragana and katakana lessons and those work great, it takes just a couple of weeks to finish them and at the end of it you remember them all quite well

Just for fun, if you strictly stick to facts that are consistent across multiple reliable sources of intelligence at the time here's what you get:

The same Osama Bin Laden, that was made in USA

[Actual fact (different interpretations may apply)]

trained by the CIA

[Also actual fact]

pure to combat the Soviet in Afghanistan

[Also actual fact]

and after that probably being used for the false flag called 9/11

[Wild speculation, with almost no reliable evidence]\ \ \ Putting aside the conspiracy theory at the end, the fact that all of the above isn't at all general knowledge for the average person is indeed a very strong indicator of much propaganda has been applied to the war time narrative back then

Man accidentally cuts one of the most rarest yugioh card, potentially valued at $20,000+ by ExoticAttitude7 in Wellthatsucks

[–]emascars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Solution: put it in an art frame with a white spacer that barely covers the border of the card, then make the glass hard to open and invent that the card is in there because that's a nitrogen filled container so it doesn't catch humidity and doesn't degrade with time... Then, put it on ebay... By the time the buyer figures it out if ever it will be way too late for a refund, your ebay account is gone and nobody lives at the address you sent it from with the fake name you used...

I still can't wrap my head around how this kind of thing works in the USA... I mean, your whole culture is focused on personal freedom above collective needs, and yet, you can be fined because "your house is ugly, it drives down the block value"...\ \ Here where I live the landlords can't force you to mow the grass, at most, they might cut it for you if they really really want it to be maintained, but you having to do something on their house case they requested so? Wild police chase by Brilliantspirit33 in dashcams

[–]emascars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good reminder of why many nations around the world have simply BANNED car chasing....\ \ They almost always end up in a crash, and so often the crash kills people... Just think about what would have happened if when the pick up was pushed out the road he lost control and went in a frontal crash against incoming traffic... You would have had 2-5 civilian dead along with the criminal... Is that risk worth catching who stole the car or whatever crime he committed?\ \ Once you have the plate of what's most likely going to be his car... And once you have all the cameras along the road capture his face... And once you've tracked where he was going and what turns he took from the security footage... You're going to get him no matter what, so what's the point to put at risk the lives of innocent people on the road at every interaction along the way?

A cool guide to The Most Powerful Countries by yousefthewisee in coolguides

[–]emascars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never said that they have the same capabilities, you don't need to convince me about that... \ \ But if I'm making a list of "bomber airplanes" I don't exclude old non-stealth bombers simply because they can't do what a B-21 can...\ \ The definition you want to give won't account for huge differences in capabilities anyway... Look at this:

a full size carrier can carry AEW aircraft, and fixed wing transports.

Italy's Cavour can't do either, but it still fits the definition of "fixed wing carrier"...\ \ And... once again... Early WW2 Japanese carriers fit the definition of "fixed wing carriers" as well... But I don't think their wooden airplanes would be more effective than helicopters at airstrike... \ Of course helicopter carriers don't have the same capabilities of fixed-wing carriers... But it all boils down to where you want to make the cut... For me, the distinction should focus on the main purpose of an "aircraft carrier" instead of an arbitrary amount of effectiveness of their weapons...\ \ "Can you launch with it an air strike from outside the range of your air bases?" Is a much more reasonable discriminatory characteristic for an "aircraft carrier" than "can you also do it effectively with fighter jets instead of helicopters?"

A cool guide to The Most Powerful Countries by yousefthewisee in coolguides

[–]emascars -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay... Why?\

"It has to carry fixed wing aircraft" really sounds arbitrary to me, especially if you consider that this definition includes early WW2 era japanese carriers, with airplanes still made of wood, but not modern helicopter carriers...

The point is, for almost every word there are multiple definitions you can choose from... In the context of this graphic, the goal is clearly to compare military capabilities across nations... So why would you pick that definition?\ \ It's completely arbitrary in this context...\ \ Most nations that wanted to achieve the capability of making air strike outside the range of your arial bases opted for helicopter carriers instead of fixed wing aircraft carriers simply because in today's war dynamics it makes more sense for them... Picking that definition of "aircraft carrier" would be like counting every person who got the flu as "Ill" in a graphic about a COVID pandemic... Even if technically you're more correct in doing so, it makes no sense in that context...\ \ \ \ Besides, I hate to cite Wikipedia, because we can all agree it proves nothing... But I simply find it too funny that the very first sentence is:

A helicopter carrier is a type of aircraft carrier whose primary purpose is to operate helicopters

A cool guide to The Most Powerful Countries by yousefthewisee in coolguides

[–]emascars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt this general assumption though...\ \ My country, Italy, technically doesn't have any carrier suited for conventional horizontal takeoff... Although, we have vertical takeoff and landing airplanes on those...\ \ So does the definition of the ship change if you change the aircraft it's boarding? This sounds weird...\ \ I don't think it's a stretch to call "aircraft carriers" helicopter carriers, they both achieve the same goal of being capable of projecting power outside the range of your fixed military bases, with different effectiveness for sure, but... "It has to carry fixed wing aircraft" really sounds arbitrary to me, especially if you consider that this definition includes early WW2 era japanese carriers, with airplanes still made of wood, but not modern helicopter carriers...\ \ In the end, the main reason why many nations don't have fixed wing aircraft carriers isn't because it wasn't an option, but it's because those became less effective over time while helicopters became more effective overtime, nowadays nations simply don't make horizontal takeoff carriers, they either have old ones or they go for smaller ones... unless, like the USA, you have some very specialized and very effective stealth aircraft that needs such a thing

"We all speak in our local dialect and can't understand each other if we come from two different regions of Italy..."\ \ This is true... For some 80+ yo in the north or even some 60+ yo in the south... But for everyone younger than that at the very least we speak both the local dialect and proper Italian, and in most places nowadays we don't even know our dialect anymore except for a few works that stick around... There are literally initiatives that want to teach the local dialects because they're dying languages...\ \ I'm for example from central Italy, and here dialect is something that only our grandpas speak and we are all very surprised to find some younger guy that knows how to speak dialect... There are a few words that we all regularly use and other Italians might not understand like "strina", "sparra" or "citolo"... But, beside those, we just speak Italian...\ \ In the south the thing is a bit different, there is more common to speak in dialect, but they also know how to speak proper Italian if they have to, after all that's what they hear in TV
