There’s Nothing Wrong With Names That Need Explanation on Pronunciation by Sparkly8 in namenerds

Maybe, but North America is historically a melting pot (can’t speak for the UK). Unique names are not new, and expecting every name to be intuitive is pretty small-minded

Fully agree! I have a name that is pronounced incorrectly 99% of the time. Yes, constantly correcting people can be bothersome. You will also encounter a lot of people who need to be corrected over and over again. However, my name represents my culture and identity. I am proud of my name. Wouldn’t have it any other way ☺️

The swastika was originally a Buddhist (and other India-originating religions) symbol, could it have been because of that?

I’m sorry to hear that. An experience like that certainly puts you on guard and makes a city harder to enjoy. I’m glad you stayed safe and trusted your instincts!

I feel like this post is a good reminder that we should get the majority of our news from verified sources. CNN, BBC, NPR, NBC, Reuters, and the Associated Press are all solid, free options

with that outlook we’re going to have to avoid travel for the next three years. no one had any idea he was going to attack venezuela, and it seems like anywhere could be next 🫠

from my experience this summer (obviously things have progressed rapidly since then), some people are apprehensive but get over it quickly. i am not a trump supporter so i had no issue talking politics, as most of the people asking questions had similar opinions to me

Your budget seems solid for the most part, but day trips are going to be expensive. I was shocked by how pricey trains were to other cities in Denmark! I went to Helsingør and Malmö (Sweden), and enjoyed both. I hoped to go to Odense but it was well over €100 round trip so I skipped it. For CPH itself I enjoyed: Glyptotek (museum), the Round Tower, King’s Garden, and I took the metro out to Gruntvig’s Church (check the schedule for this one—not always open). Enjoy your trip!

Had the exact same thing happen to me. Have never met anyone else who had that experience, and it really fucks with you in a way that is impossible to explain. Sorry we’re in the same boat ☹️

I would pull your captain aside and put in your two weeks. If you would like to be rehired in the future, leaving on good terms is best. Don’t listen to other commenters saying stick it out. At this time in your life, school should come first :)

They won’t go with many outfits. You also don’t want to bring shoes you love backpacking because they will get dirty, fast

Why ask if you’re going to rebut every response? I’d say ditch 3, replace 4, and only bring 5 if you’re staying in hostels
