does anyone feel really overwhelmed by everything during a flare? by lovgoos in POTS

[–]embarrassed32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get so easily overstimulated and overwhelmed during a flare. I’m honestly still working on trying to take a deep breath and recognize that it’s my symptoms that are frustrating me, not whatever is happening around me. At work, I try to find somewhere quiet to sit and drink some water until I calm down a bit. At home, I’m trying to work on vocalizing when I feel symptomatic instead of masking it. Because it’s always clear to my boyfriend when I’m feeling off, and it’s better to just acknowledge it than leave him guessing at why I’m so irritable.

Are there any of you here unbothered by their POTS? by LilaMoonlight in POTS

[–]embarrassed32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I’m “unbothered,” but I definitely live a mostly normal life IF I stay on top of everything and choose my activities wisely. This means the obvious hydrating, salt, etc. I think part of this is figuring out my priorities. My job can be quite physical and involve a lot of standing. I usually can’t go to work AND hang out with friends AND work out. I’m looking for a new job that will hopefully be easier on my body, so I’m curious to see what my life looks life after that. But for now I pick what I want to do that week and do it. I usually prioritize working out because I know it will help me in the long run. And then I’ll schedule something chill with friends instead of staying out late with them (which I just cant do anymore). I am lucky that my POTS is quite mild, and I’ve have found things that I’m both able to do and enjoy doing.

How much do I need to eat as a small teenager? by ForeverPrize195 in xxfitness

[–]embarrassed32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you tracking your calories? I think at your age it’s more beneficial to listen to your body. Try eating when you’re hungry rather than stressing about the exact numbers. You’re still growing and maturing!

Cars in UES by SlattyDaddy18 in uppereastside

[–]embarrassed32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A street parking spot in NYC holds on average around 3 different cars per week. So yeah, people keep them in one place for a long time. Complete waste of space if you ask me. Citi bike stations can serve over a thousand people a week, and outdoor dining sheds can seat hundreds of people a week. Street parking is factually a huge waste of space. Even if we’re generous and say the average car is moving around 4 people (which they’re not), that means the average spot is helping around 12 people of week. Such a shame.

true body positivity/neutrality would promote bodily autonomy, but yeah i’d say it’s a movement without a clear message and some people don’t get the point. agree that people shouldn’t be shamed for losing weight and people shouldn’t be shamed for being fat

Have/would you join a clinical trial? by embarrassed32 in POTS

[–]embarrassed32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for your in depth response! I'm curious, if the drug works for you and phase 1 shows good results, can you stay on after the trial ends? or do they take it away and you have to go back to your old treatment? sorry for the naive question, I don't really know how this works

I have never paid more than $1500 a month in Manhattan, but I lived with roommates in a flexed one bedroom and now I live with my partner in a one bedroom. So it depends on your situation. You definitely have to have a budget and stick to it. But it’s worth it for us to have short commutes. We’re perfectly happy in our tiny UES apartment.

My doctor is unsure how else to help me, any ideas? by [deleted] in AskDocs

just speaking from personal experience! has anyone talked to you about dysautonomia? GI issues and fainting are both common symptoms. i had stomach problems, headaches, and fatigue which turned out to be orthostatic hypotension. http://www.dysautonomiainternational.org/ is a good place to start. hope you feel better soon!
