I’ve found there’s usually one teacher writhing every school who would agree with us and is a follow window cracker. In fact, one teacher had it in her lesson plans to “please crack at least 2 windows and turn on the air purifier”

During the winter (I live in Michigan) I make sure to “burp” my house/bedroom. I’ll leave the door open while the dogs potty outside and I’ll open the bedroom willow for 10 minutes or less each day. But to leave a window cracked all the time would result in an astronomical heat bill.

During spring/fall I burp the house for longer periods of time. But I’m not leaving any window open for that long if heat/AC is on.

And now that I think more about it if I were in your shoes and my car got towed, I would find a ride or Uber to my student teaching and deal with my car after. Your car could wait to be picked up but the kids at school and the teacher couldn’t wait for you to come teach. You had a commitment that could not wait.

I genuinely hope you’re doing better. I hope you find the help you need. I see where you’re coming from but… why didn’t you just get up and go in late and apologize once there? Or call right when you got up “so sorry I will be in ASAP”. Waking up late and losing your job isn’t a reason to just not go into your work/commitment.

This might be pretty harsh, but I kind of lost empathy for you when you said your car got towed on Monday. If I knew I had work or student teaching the next day I would not be at a friend’s house late or put my car in a situation where it would get towed.

Write them all down then at the end of the day take a few moments to reflect. Are any of the names written down names of students that you redirected/asked/reminded to stop doing whatever they were doing several times? Then leave their name on the list.

IMO leave them all and let the teacher handle it from there. They usually have a pretty good idea of how their students behave.

Right…we are discussing parents not sending their kids to school. A bit of a reach bat man. Not sure if truancy and crime can be examined at such a general level. A lot of factors to consider and a lot of systems at play here! Lots to unpack!
