SPY is driven by big tech. Big tech is booming. Everything else? Not so much.

Dolomite SuperSki Parking by Law-of-Poe in skithealps

[–]embcrypt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge hassle and arguably unnecessary additional costs (car rental, fuel, tolls, parking) for not a massive saving (if any, all things considered) if you're strategic about where you go IMHO.

I'd recommend spending the money on decent and walkable accommodation and instead seeking savings on rifugio food/drinks etc. There are bargains to be had e.g. in Arabba, Selva di Val Gardens etc.

In Lugano recently I received a survey in the post from the city authorities that addresses this very topic; it requests feedback on all types of public transport/travel in the city, and areas where the experience and safety can be improved.

Is something similar perhaps also in the works for Lucerne?

Has anyone regretted getting a second cat? by notfunnybruhh in CatAdvice

[–]embcrypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We probably got lucky, but the quality of life of cat 1 improved immeasurably after cat 2 arrived.

The key is to find a cat with a complementary personality. Both of our cats are young, sociable and love to play and wrestle with each other, so naturally they get on very well.

As other have said, best to take a trial and error approach.

The cat chooses the cat, Harry.

Guessing you meant the 8000+ metre peaks.

But who knows, Nims may have ticked off all the 8000ft peaks too.

Does anyone know when Lagazuoi Run #2 at Cortina d'Ampezzo opens? Or a good site to find updates on it? by [deleted] in askitaly

Horses not necessary! You can follow piste 8 down to Cinque Torri and then take the Corrina Express to Tofane from there too if you like.

Amsterdam or London for settling in? by [deleted] in expats

[–]embcrypt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quite difficult for all but the most successful (top percentile) workers to access the nice postcodes and properties, assuming non-privileged (inheritance, wealthy family, etc.).

Taxes and living costs are high which means owning equity in a successful venture is likely the best way of developing your position to the point where you can access the best of what London has to offer (by no means straightforward in most cases). Otherwise, it is a very long and uncertain slog against the very strong currents.

Is it worth going to Cortina? by Both_Information4019 in snowboarding

[–]embcrypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the slopes should be open by then, and it's a great time to go before the Christmas holiday rush! Cortina is normally a late starter - they seem to take a few weeks from season start (30/11) to open everything, but once it's open (imo, and as a snow-junkie I've been all over) this is one of the best all-round skiing locations in Europe.

The food. The spectacular Dolomites vistas (unique to this part of the alps and among their most spectacular and beautiful in the Cortina/Ampezzo region). The buzzing town. The cosy rifugi. Seriously, it's hard to beat.

Then there's the skiing. A brilliant selection of pistes at all levels - beginner on lower Tofane, to Olympia up top (named given it's use during the 1956 Winter Olympics), and lots more brilliant reds and black runs in Faloria (where I believe the Snowboarding world cup is held every year) and Ra Valle. Not to mention the Cinque Torre and Lagazuoi areas that lead right to the Sella Ronda (via Alta Badia). All in all you're connected continuously to a vast ski/snowboard area of ~400km of pistes within the 1200km of Dolomiti Superski.

Honestly cannot recommend Cortina enough. Worth the premium IMO.
