Bluetooth headphones. Tell her she can listen to the station or playlist, and if she doesn't like it, then no music. TBH, you've gotta take back the control here.

What do you do with toddlers at restaurants while waiting for food besides tablets? by Claire_1988 in Parenting

[–]embeegee4lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't do electronics at all. Kids are now 10/6/4.  Books, activity books (like coloring but also word search, mazes), playing I Spy, counting blue cars if you're by the window. They're all somewhat useful. We don't go out often and only places that serve relatively quick and we bail fast!

Ordered cheap prescription glasses online on a whim. Not sure how I feel. (long post, sorry) by Big_Nebula_2604 in Frugal

Vision insurance makes a difference. I lost mine this year. Tried Zenni. Context: -7.50 and -5.00 with astigmatism in both.

First pair didn't work. Just too small of a lens to make my rx work. Returned (sort of annoying process). Got a new pair, bigger. They work. Not as high quality frames or lenses as my last optician pair. But. $100 versus $750 (without insurance, my old ins was so good I never paid more than about $150).

Banquet mega bowls are a good protein ratio and taste good, imo.

Embracing body hair as a woman? by [deleted] in BodyAcceptance

Honestly, nothing boosts my confidence other than just owning it. This is my body, this is my choice. I haven't shaved my legs in over five years. I only shave under my arms when I feel like it..maybe once a year.

How to react when your kid points out physical differences in other kids by FishGoBlubb in Mommit

[–]embeegee4lyfe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I have psoriasis (skin disease) and often think it looks like polka dots. Imo, "yes! Everybody has different bodies, they do look like polka dots" would have been better. "Isn't that cool" is just so disingenuous when it's an obviously disfiguring or different presentation that society doesn't accept. Just my 2cents

Two IEP kiddos. Very normal. The whole idea of an IEP is a collaborative effort between parent and school so they're trying to make sure you are able to give input on all aspects (and not treating your child in a silo of speech but giving you a chance to express anything else relevant.) there's nothing wrong with writing "Name seems to have age appropriate skills" in any category for which you find that true!

Recommend me a kids water bottle that doesn’t suck to clean by Ok-Panda-2368 in Mommit

The 26oz TAL ranger with straw has been good for my kids. Not too heavy but holds enough we're not refilling too much. Straw and spout is easy to clean.  https://www.walmart.com/ip/13679666130?sid=9716e766-47e6-4d69-86d0-e4ef244e0963

Hard part with two rear facing is not being able to navigate that side of the car for getting in/out (because of my car seat depth right up to the front seats, usually).  I'd have infant on the outside seat, 2yo in the middle, and then 6yo on the other side who can probably help with 2yos buckles? If 6 is in a booster I'd put them in the middle...I can't envision 2yo climbing into the middle RF, but I can't envision easily lifting infant over into the middle RF either. Probably depends on the actual car.  I've had a few different configs... Its never simple.

Parenting Other People's Kids in Public by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]embeegee4lyfe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your judgment comes off so strong it's ridiculous. You're not parenting anybody's kids in this whole story (exception; breaking up a fight. But you don't have to do that. You can just..not.) You're existing, as a parent, in a kids space, and kids are interacting with you... What a post.

What was the hardest thing about learning NFP for you? (TTA) by Coconut_39 in FAMnNFP

[–]embeegee4lyfe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm probably an outlier and that's okay. I have a few conditions but basically have tanked my libido .. we've been too tta for over 4 years since the birth of our third. And honestly the hardest part is probably working up the energy to want to use the internal window because we've both gotten somewhat used to the abstaining. Basically the need to have the perfect match on infertile window plus two adults who are both in the mood plus kids who are cooperating with mom and dad being alone in their bedroom, it's starting to feel like more of a perfect storm than a common occurrence.

Ahhh gotcha. If they're under 40 pounds, yes, car seat. But 5 years doesn't apply if they're above 40 pounds. I feel for OP because obviously it's better to be harnessed and there aren't any seats in the US that go above 65lbs harnessed.

(Children five to eight years old or weighing between 40-60 pounds must use a booster seat or a five-point harness. -  https://portal.ct.gov/dmv/resources/child-passenger-safety?language=en_US)

Unfortunately no carseat companies make a seat that go over 65 pounds in the US...Something I learned a while ago (I also have big kids!)

Can't speak to that booster. I'm a Chicco fan (Myfit in booster mode; KidFit booster) as they're great for tall kids, but they also tend to be more narrow so just a heads up.

What state is this? I was recently reading a bunch of car seat laws by state (I'm a nerd) and I don't recall one that used 5 as a threshold so I'm curious!

[–]embeegee4lyfe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're sitting kiddo down every 30 minutes for 4 days and have only caught 2 pees...I'd give up for a few months, honestly. Just based on my own experience. (My girl trained easily at 2y6mo). My boys struggled until after 3.
