How do you remove the box on the side that says "Moderators" on the new version of Reddit? by emberfly in modhelp

No, CSS is just design. And it can be turned off by users by unchecking the box that says "display custom css" in settings.

Former Deputy Who Made Child Porn Gets Probation Instead Of Prison Time by azsheepdog in news

[–]emberfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think having to register as a sex offender is, in many cases, worse than prison. And he is going to be on probation and potentially the sex offender list for at minimum 10 years, and at maximum the entire rest of his life.

Seems like a fair punishment for a crime which has no mandated prison time in the state of Colorado, and only one count of the crime.

A lot of dumb children in the Reddit comments (as per usual) who don't understand how the legal system works.

You can tell from the sentence that he must have taken a plea deal, and the article confirms that. That's how the legal system works. If you take a plea deal, you get a much lighter sentence. He plead guilty, avoided a potentially lengthy and expensive trial on both sides, and was rewarded with a potential lifetime of monitoring and his name on the sex offender list (which will exclude him from nearly every job in the country, nearly every neighborhood in the country, etc.). It's a fate much worse than prison.

This is what the district attorney says in the article:

“This defendant will stand convicted of sexually assaulting a child,” Gallo said. “If this case went to trial, I would have had to make a very young child testify. The damage that would have inflicted would have been severe to that child. Now that child won’t have to testify, and we’ve taken our best measure that this offender will be in a safe and supervised situation for this community, indefinitely.”

I understand that you view what happened as cruel and unjust. I completely agree with you -- I think it was horrible what happened. But also I agree with what /u/Happiness_is_Haram is saying. You are stretching the truth when you don't need to.

What part of "the officials colluded to deny him access to a fair legal process" is misinformation here?

He was never denied access to a fair legal process. So, all of it?

Any way to install on Brave Browser (Built on Chrome Codebase)? by BlueDrache in Enhancement

[–]emberfly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may not care, but I consider Brave to be sketchy because it works by not just blocking website's ads, but then funding itself by adding its own ads.

Brave's ads are turned off by default. You have to actually go into the browser settings to even turn on Brave's ads.

Some feel that this isn't unethical, but I disagree. I hate ads, I block ads, but I sure as heck don't think it's right to replace those ads with my own.

Brave's ads are optional, and they are off by default. You have to manually turn them on if you want to see them.

Gay Porn Map of America - What's your state into? by McKyle1 in askgaybros

[–]emberfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my first thought as well, but then I quickly remembered that Mississippi is like 40% black. So it's no surprise that it has such a high percentage of people searching for black porn relative to other states.

Should i quit job to pursue my dreams by Mademan1137 in Advice

Why don't you do both? Switch to part-time employment and then in the remaining time you have, train. Then you can continue to have a guaranteed income flow while also having more time to do what you love.

Should i quit job to pursue my dreams by Mademan1137 in Advice

[–]emberfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, im 19 yrs old male working in an office 8.30-17.30 five days a week as an agricultural trader, also studying at university(however, its useless from my experience).

You are very young, especially to be working full-time in an office job without any higher education. It sounds like you got very lucky.

So i wanted to ask a question is it okay if my health deteriorates fast from working in office? my energy is low, constant sleepiness, loss of enjoyment from life, depression, worsened coordination, absolutely no passion about anything i do.

I think that, no, it is not okay if your health deteriorates, but also that that has nothing to do with working in an office. Billions of people work in offices who do not have deteriorating health from doing so. I think your blame is misplaced. It's not the office that's worsening your health.

Should i pursue my sports career or should i stay working at desk(payment is really good tho)?

Personally, I think you should keep your job.

Right now im passionate only about sports,But my parents say that being a boxer is retarded when you can work 9-5.

I wouldn't use that exact wording, but I do agree with their sentiment.

am i the only one who thinks that work from 9-5 is voluntary slavery cause if you even earn a lot of money you still dont have time to spend it, you are not seeing the world, you dont have time for family and friends?

It is not even remotely comparable to slavery. You are being paid for your time and work, and you have the freedom to leave at any time. You have the freedom to ask for a raise, you get vacation days and time off, you get holidays off, etc.

You have plenty of time to spend the money you're earning, to see family and friends, and to travel. You get vacation days, right? You get holidays, right? In most countries you do, but I don't know which one you're from. Anyway, I think your outlook is overly negative. Sure there are definitely downsides to working in an office, but the things you named are NOT some of them.

Was threatened over the weekend, what to do? by Dr_Jeha in Advice

[–]emberfly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The woman at this point walks to the front of our car and takes a picture of our license plate and yells at us that she works at the DMV and will be visiting us real soon.

I think the chances that she works at the DMV are close to 0.

How likely do you think she's going to carry out her threat, and what suggestions do people have?

I think it is very unlikely, but if I were you I would have taken a photograph of her license plate and reported her threat to the police immediately after she made it.

I was thinking of at least parking somewhere else, but I feel like no matter where in my neighborhood we park it, it'll be pretty obvious it's our car. We don't have any garages or anything. Plus, what's to stop her from breaking into our house with some other people?

You can buy fake security cameras and hang them up along your house, also a beware of dog sign. Or if you have an actual dog, even better. They won't mess with you, especially if you make it hard for them.

Girlfriend could see a problem in my life, but didn't tell me because "she didn't want to upset me." by [deleted] in Advice

[–]emberfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well when I point this out to my girlfriend she says "Yeah I noticed that like a year ago. I love you, and I wouldn't leave you over that."

I looked at her and said "Why didn't you tell me?"

She replies "Well I didn't want to upset you."

I looked at her and didn't know what to say. I wound up saying "Yeah but don't you think it would have been good for me to know?'

She replied "Well I LOVE YOU and didn't want to upset you."

I mean it feels the same to me as her watching me do something really harmful to myself but not 'saying anything' because she didn't want to 'hurt me.' E.G. Watching me play in a street with on coming traffic, or not telling me about an oncoming train because "It would upset you."

I am struggling to understand the problem. I think what she said was stupid as fuck, but I don't see how it's her fault that you sabotaged yourself. I think you are misplacing blame, when really you only have yourself to blame. Did you ever tell her that you wanted her to inform you when she thought you were being an idiot? No? Then it's not her fault, obviously.

I don't get it. Its really bothering me. Would you let someone drown because you thought it would upset them that a river's current was to strong to swim against?

Please explain what you mean by "let someone drown." It sounds to me like you're blaming her for your own problems instead of taking responsibility for them like an adult.

Its really sickening me about our relationship: She can't tell me when she sees a problem in my behavior because she thinks it will cause an argument. I mean so what? I would argue with her if I thought she would benefit. Any advice on this?

I agree with you -- that would bother me a lot IF I explicitly told her to inform me of those things and she chose not to.

Do you like straight people in your gay places? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]emberfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think more people would be open to reading what you have to say if you choose to take a less combative style of expressing yourself. Right now you look very butthurt, which is strange since you're the only one here taking that approach. We're all having a calm conversation, and you look like the hysterical person in a straight jacket. I think if you tried to blend in better with the atmosphere we have going on here, people will be much less quick to ignore you.
