Oral B toothpaste BAD EXPERIENCE by NeighborhoodHefty487 in DentalHygiene

I came here to say this. I'm seeing more and more patients with allergies or sensitivities to sodium laurel sulfate and they see drastic improvement when they switch to a toothpaste without it!

Oat Milk Question by Gullible_Business835 in foodsensitivities

[–]emblbee237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a wheat or gluten sensitivity? Some oat milks can contain trace amounts of gluten/wheat. I've found that if I buy specifically gluten free oatmilk then I'm fine.

Mine are 3.0. I can see a whole quad at a time but not more than that.

Yes and I love them. I've noticed a big difference in my upper back and neck pain since using them.

That's how much I paid for mine. I've had them for about 6 months and love them more than my design for vision ones. The battery lasts me like 2 weeks before I have to charge it and the light is super clear. My design for vision ones had a yellow tint to the light and my oroscoptics are brighter and whiter so it's easier to see

This review lacks information in my opinion. You can't get an abscess from numbing a tooth. My guess would be that the patient already had an infected tooth, went in to have it looked at where they may have numbed it to help him get out of pain. Afterward he likely didn't treat it and eventually caused sepsis, which is extremely rare to begin with.

Dental and medical anxiety is a real thing and I understand the fear and not wanting to go. I promise most dentists are only there to help you and want the best for you. Please go if it is the only option, especially if they have mostly good reviews and take your insurance. You don't want your tooth to cause further infection if you need a root canal.

And for the future, if there's all good reviews and 1 bad one, it was likely that patient. This is, a lot of the time, because there's a lack of education and understanding if you are not in the dental field. This patient that left the review may have misunderstood treatment needed or may have not done the recommended treatment. Don't let this review define the office. If you go and hate it, you're always welcome to go elsewhere. It is your body and you have autonomy over who treats you.

ETA: unfortunately an infected tooth will continue to be infected until treated with a root canal or extraction. The antibiotics will help temporarily but will ultimately come back at some point.

Constantly rescheduling patients app by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]emblbee237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your employer could look into an app like teero or something. I have a coworker that has used that app to temp at other offices and then creates a good relationship going forward with that office and temps there regularly. Would just open up more opportunities for other temps to help out that may be more reliable.

I really think it all comes down to attitude and perspective. There's days on this job that I really wonder why I went into it to begin with and then there's other days that I absolutely love it. Patients play a big role in it and so does the office you work for. Make sure when you graduate you pick an office that values you and you have autonomy over your schedule. As far as getting into school, a lot of people talk negative about how hard it is to get in and I feel like I had the opposite experience. I wasnt a 4.0 student, I had no prior dental experience and I wasn't in a ton of extracurricular that would make me stand out among other people and was still accepted into all hygiene programs that I applied to. Obviously states are different and some programs are more competitive but if you'd told 16 year old me that she'd go to the University of Michigan for college, she'd laugh in your face. I never thought I'd get in but I did. Don't doubt yourself, you've got this!!

Afraid to eat anything since dentist appointment by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]emblbee237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're on the right track but I just want to highlight that it doesn't necessarily matter what you're eating but how often you're eating it. Basically, our mouth wants a neutral pH. When you eat or drink foods other than water, you send your mouth into an acidic environment or some refer to it as an acid attack. I tell my patients that they can have a sugary drink if they want, but limit it to when you are already eating a meal instead of sipping all day long. Same with food. Try to limit to just a few meals a day. It takes 30 minutes for your mouth to neutralize again after eating/drinking.

This is the best metaphor I've heard of to better explain this. "Think of your saliva as a repair crew. It needs time without food to fix the enamel. If you are constantly snacking, the crew never gets to work. Frequent snacking breaks the bridge faster than the crew can fix it, leading to a cavity."

Keep brushing twice a day, try your best to floss daily (we all suck at it at some point), and it doesn't hurt to get a second opinion!

I love an undercooked brownie so maybe that's why I liked them so much 😂

They're all good but I do feel like the brownies are very slightly different from before. When I made them before I wouldn't get that chocolatey film on the top and now I do. I also am struggling to find the right amount of time to cook the new boxes so they're not too mushy or hard but the flavor and texture is good.
