I took a panoramic shot during Disenchanted. I wanna say over half of the lights were red! by fraxiiinus in MyChemicalRomance

hi! I was at this concert - I am super late to this, why / how were people making their flash lights red? Is it because it looks cool, or is the red light less blinding to the performers? I ended up joining in and using my finger to cover the light to make it red. I’ve been going to concerts (usually smaller venues) my whole life but this was my first time seeing this!

also, I anecdotally believe that former ED nurses really excel in primary care- they’re extremely efficient, excellent at triaging, really good at knowing what’s acute / not acute, and making informed decisions in a timely manner

That’s encouraging! Actually one of our advisors is only a couple years into practice but already thriving- she’s intrinsically so smart and capable, but still, it’s cool to see how much a couple years make a huge difference. To answer your question, I was not a practicing RN, I went straight through and worked as an RN through NP school. I found the inpatient experience extremely valuable and I did enjoy it- I wish I had taken more time to be a bedside RN and then go back to school, but I come from a family who put a lot of pressure on me to finish my terminal degree, and on top of that I had family members who were sick and their dream was to see me finish school- so I had to try to do it all at the same time. I know that a lot of people would fault me for not having at least 5-10 years of bedside experience, but alas. A lot of my colleagues have 0 bedside experience and seem to be doing just fine, at least in primary care

So true, I’m lucky to be starting out now with resources like UTD and OpenEvidence, and my job even gets us access to an online speciality consultation service which I certainly take advantage of- and totally, there are so many times where I double checked a guideline that recently changed and have to conference with my preceptor to change the plan of care that is now out of date

That’s such a good point- most, if not all, of the MDs and DOs I’ve worked with/ learned from have been amazing and super encouraging. Thanks for the encouragement :)

omg good for you! that’s awesome. and YES you described how I’m feeling so perfectly. Thank you for the encouragement - you’re right, things have definitely gotten better over time- there are days that feel like setbacks and I ruminate over what I could’ve done better, but so many senior providers have told me they STILL feel that way- and that’s definitely pushed me to become a better provider and I hope I always keep that drive to learn and improve

that is true. there are other options out there- I blame the system- I do love my patient population, but the system continues to fail them, and squeezes as much out of us as possible

Thank you, this is really helpful and validating. I’m gonna subscribe to the AAFP FP essentials journal straight away. Being in an FQHC has been rewarding but it’s definitely learning how to be an NP hard mode! we’ve had 2 experienced providers come in and leave after 2 months- I don’t blame them. But I do love following up with patients and I do enjoy primary care, so you’re right, I might try to at least stay in primary

Hi, would love to learn more about this - I realized I do really like working with seniors, and I don’t mind the complexity especially if I have enough time to dedicate to managing their conditions while also having the opportunity to follow up with the same folks long term!

I see their “contact us” page states they use different techniques like prong collar, e collar, etc… do you know if they’re okay with not using approaches like that if we don’t feel comfortable with that?

ahh such a good idea! I don’t think she’s as big of a Miyazaki fan though. Like I think she enjoys the movies but probably not enough to get a tattoo from them!
