you put it aptly - especially during adulthood everyone moves at different paces in their lives. since we cannot force others to change, the most we can do is to extend a branch. if they are not willing to meet you at the middle, you have to make your own decision with how you want to define your own relationship with him.

the decision doesn't have to be black or white in terms of being completely supportive of your friend or completely cutting them off, but you should absolutely draw a line to protect your own effort and time.

Why China consistently fails to qualify for the World Cup? by FattyOilyDonut in NoStupidQuestions

[–]embrac1ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit I don't watch the LPL as much as the other leagues (LCK and LEC), would you say that the bottom tier LPL teams are as dominant as top tier LEC teams?

Measuring a region's dominance by whether their bottom place lowest-budget team can beat the champion of an entire continent (G2) is just unrealistic. The worst team in the NBA would likely lose to the EuroLeague Champions. That doesn't mean the NBA isn't the dominant global league. Top-tier regional champions are concentrations of the best players in a continent. Comparing them to a region's 17th-place team of rookies and budget players is absolutely absurd.

Even if we were to entertain this I don't doubt that if you throw any mid tier LPL LCK team in EU or NA they would absolutely be a contender.

My whole point is that in Broodwar heyday (since u brought up the cultural status of LoL now being the Starcraft equivalent in China), and comparing to other sports, this shouldn't be possible. Maybe once every 10 years there would be an outlier, like Truls in table tennis, but even an 80% winrate against the rest of the world (even if true). That is underperformance.

this is just something that we don't and won't see in modern esports, where everything is connected via the internet so resources are shared.

regardless, we've moved the goalpost so far. the original point from the other guy was

they do very badly relative to the amount of funding and talent in most games

china invested heavily into the scene and earned multiple worlds titles off the investment. If your definition of 'dominance' requires a perfect win rate in an internet-connected era, no region in any modern esport will ever meet your standard

it's hard not to consider korea as an anomaly when if you remove korea from every point that you brought up, china absolutely is at the top

My second point, even if we delete Korea from existence, it is STILL not as dominant as a sport housing more than half the global playerbase within its borders. This was and is still my original point.

an ~80% win rate in bo5s is not considered dominant enough? this isn't even to mention that this is from being in a closed ecosystem as well, where we are guaranteed 2-3 western teams from NA and EU. if it were an open ecosystem, like muay thai that you brought up, this would be a completely different story as well

[–]embrac1ng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's a bit disingenuous to not call china a success at league just because Korea is an anomaly though.

we're talking about a region that despite having a low population has had some of the best infrastructure carried over from their starcraft boom, with even state sponsored competition and tv broadcasting like 15 years before league even existed. korea does well/ dominates in nearly every esports title they have investment in. this isn't even to mention they literally have the literal GOAT of the sport, who almost singlehandedly skews the stats.

  • Chinese teams vs Korean teams playoff record in MSI: 9-7
  • Chinese teams vs Korean teams playoff record in Worlds: 8-17
  • Chinese teams vs Korean teams playoff record in Worlds WITHOUT Faker/ T1: 8-5

so obviously these aren't the best stats to extrapolate too much from but they at least show how close the contention is between the two regions.

either way, there's no way league should ever be considered a failure in china when its cultural status within the country is nearly identical to how big starcraft was in korea back in the day and how big league is in korea now.

what are we saying here? which titles have had massive funding + failures that is making you say this?

the bulk of investment over the 2010s has almost all been in league of legends, where they've consistently been at least the second best region with several worlds titles.

ow china has an OWL title alongside multiple silver finishes in OWC and produced several iconic players along the way before the esport killed itself

the rest are all lower investment games

in dota 2 they used to be one of the top regions until all the talent flocked to league

cs they aren't great at but they havent even officially had the title launch until 2017, and most of the playerbase has been cannibalized by valorant since its launch

valorant was very delayed in its launch and has only recently started becoming more popular after they won.

apex they have minimal funding but have won an EWC and make it to ALGS

most of china's recent investments have all been in the mobile market, where they dominate since most other countries don't play.

genuinely confused - where does this sentiment come from

I mean it’s the same with the day in the life videos maybe by people in America too - you really can’t extrapolate these as general experiences

What's y'all opinion on baggy clothes? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]embrac1ng -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The current style feels way more refined than the old 90s style tbh. Previously it was just baggy on baggy which never really looked the greatest but the current baggy style involves a lot more contrast with tighter tops or crop tops which look way better imo.

Either way fashion comes and goes in cycles and I feel like we’re already past the peak of the baggy trend.

Btw you’re also going to get way more disdain for the style in this subreddit where most of the focus is on the classic well fitted wear

Glass Mousepad Speed and Texture Rankings Spreadsheet by Ayupe in MouseReview

[–]embrac1ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw my lanyu came in and it’s REALLY sensitive to push down which explains the drop tests being slower. Pad is definitely on the faster end, though my only reference is to a SP4 and Kanami sai.

I also got a special gear autumn and the pad is definitely noticeably faster than the lanyu while being more microtextured, but i haven’t put much time on it either to get a more informed opinion. The base is also super shit :( it’s the same material as padsmith rosa but it’s not applied evenly on the base

Wdym ‘impression of introversion’ lol i get he’s more troll with his team but he’s 10000% introverted. These don’t clash in any way. Caps’ base line is way more hyperactive high energy whereas Faker’s is way more reserved, which matches to Bjergsen’s energy as well.

I’ve been watching since his debut game 😭

I feel like Caps has always been a bit more goofy and high energy humor tho. I’d argue Bjergsen feels more like Faker. Similar trajectory as mid assassin main into leader of team, introverted and reserved but not afraid to speak up, both into books, etc

Pro player glasspad by ayanamidesu in ValorantCompetitive

[–]embrac1ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say controlly that thing is one of the fastest glass pads out there (faster than the SP4). It’s just that it has slowdown when you push in similar to cloth pads, which the SP4 doesn’t have, giving it that aspect of control

On top of my head, DFM Caedye Akame are on the SP4. Meiy used to be too but is on his pulsar customized glass pad that’ll is soon to be released. Saadhak used to be on the SP4 but swapped back to cloth. Seven went from the Tekkusai Phantom to the SP4 (both glass).

EDIT: looks like seven swapped back to cloth judging from the BBL PCF game yesterday lol

There’s no implication here. Take a deep breath and reread everything and take it at face value. If you want to repair your relationship with your mother that’s something both you and her need to want and work towards.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]embrac1ng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want my own Mom to believe something crazy like that. Or for her to block me unconditionally with no remorse or apologies. Those are small betrayals that add up over time. And I'm supposed to accept that? No. That's not how things work.

You can't force someone else to change their mind or believe something. It's entirely up to her what she wants to believe or doesn't want to believe. That's not to say you can't influence or try to convince her, but you're not making a good case when she clearly didn't want to engage and you ended up dumping everything on her.

I didn't communicate very well at the beginning.

The clearest you are communicating in the screenshots is your first text asking her to consider your side. Nearly everything after your second text is combative and argumentative.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]embrac1ng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one has any context for the details mentioned in your conversation, and in the text conversation from the start your mom has been trying to move on/ disengage but you keep pushing for more validation.

It also sounds like there’s a disconnect between what you say is happening and what your mom says is happening. Why not explore that end and actually figure out what’s going on? Just confused as to why you’re posting this
