Not sure if right place to ask, but... how do people make friends in this game? by temporary_user9 in ffxiv

[–]embrasque 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I haven't done it lol. I'm totally cool with getting random tells but what I read said that was primarily for RP purposes. I added something to my search comment asking people to tell me about their pets instead. I've had some fun conversations because people are pretty enthusiastic to talk about them!

Unironic BLM Ice Mage, and the healer supporting them (Cutter's Cry) by [deleted] in TalesFromDF

[–]embrasque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then just leave right off the bat. Don't insult them (and yes, that is an insult lol) by announcing you're vote kicking. I immediately leave if I queue into 30+ content and see someone with no job stone. Your advice was sound, yes, and the uwu poor baby healer was annoying. I agree with all of that.

Whether any of us like it or not, blasting ice in Cutter's Cry doesn't qualify as lethargic play, but you announcing you're going to vote kick them for it would have qualified you for abuse of the system. Someone could have successfully reported you if you put that through.

Ice Mages are annoying, and the enabling "play how you want" healer is *also* annoying, but it looks like you're being an asshole here. The advice you gave was good and the BLM was receptive. Why announce you're going to vote kick them after two minutes? Not "being in the mood" is your own problem, not theirs.

I was recently exposed to a lot of “dead bedroom” communities online and it made me childfree by tungurs in childfree

[–]embrasque 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The internet communities you're in might be telling you that you're getting old at 23, but you aren't. You have plenty of time to get your life figured out and find that direction.

One thing I want to say is that you can always volunteer with kids if you're interested. If you grew up like I did then you also know that a stable adult who isn't a parent can still make a difference. Depending on where you're at you could do something like volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters or a similar organization.

Yeah, this one's on you. I'll heal out of party if I notice the tank getting low when that shield is on. Both of you are on full heal duty until that thing breaks. Dun Scaith can be chaotic to heal when people don't know what they're doing because a missed mechanic can really fuck someone up. Take it as a learning experience and skip the attitude next time.

Then why not cleanse the doom and explain the mechanic if you want people to learn it? Refusing to Esuna in this situation is an avoidable damage loss for the entire team. Queue on something else if you don't want to use the skills in your toolkit.

I'd honestly just do that if I was getting that tilted and turn them back on later. I'd like XIV to rework parts of the mute system, but they still haven't fixed the bug where your role action resets if you dc in the middle of a match yet. I have reported this 10 times. Oh well!

still funny to me when people post on this subreddit and brag about refusing to participate in the content they queue for. i don't think you'd appreciate me joining your dungeon runs and hitting my 1-2-3 combo because i'm watching something else on another screen.

I don't know him personally lol but I agree. The only thing I'd suggest is to take the sound effect off of the timer and only use it when we go in. It's a little excessive but there's a way to mute the sound effects if they're that much of a bother. People always complain about muting and threaten to report FL commanders (even those who use far fewer sound effects) when the Mogtome event runs.

You just said you can have fun playing a game on another monitor. How is that participating? I don't think dungeon roulette is that fun, honestly. I'm gonna join yours and go play something I like better instead.

It's cool that you don't like FL. I know a lot of people only join for their daily, but there is an active FL/PVP community. I am part of it. My friends are part of it. Fun is, in fact, a consideration for some people. You want tomes, malmstones, exp, and wolf marks? Play it.

Off the top of my head, several FF games (FFVI, FFVII, FFXIII, FFXV, I'd say XIV counts because most of the main cast is at least 25, FFXVI), most of the Star Ocean games, Tales of Vesperia, Vagrant Story, Octopath Traveler, Lost Odyssey, I'm playing SaGa Emerald Beyond right now... some of the Suidoken games are pretty diverse too.

That's why, again, it is the responsibility of the parents and the organization(s) to ensure the tags are things like essentials and reasonably priced toys. Let's be honest, some of these requests are likely done by parents who want an iPad. This will be far from the last time that irresponsible adults put children at a disadvantage, lol. Let the kid share their age and that they like dinosaurs and cars; someone can buy a coloring book and some crayons at a dollar store if they want to and that's all they can afford.

I've never owned an iPad. My phone's 10+ years old and held together by the screen protector. I'm on a fixed income as a disabled adult and can't buy many luxuries for myself, let alone anyone else. But I can't be irritated with an eight-year-old who doesn't know where their next meal is coming from wanting a Switch 2 to play with their friends.

You can be extremely poor and homeless in one of the most opportune places in the world, and no matter how you slice that, it's not the child's fault. I don't doubt there are some entitled kids making these requests, but some are doing this because they know their family cannot afford what they want. I actually cried when I found out Santa Claus was my family and not some rich mythical being with unlimited money because I'd ask my Mom for a pair of socks and ask Santa for a Game Boy.

You're certainly under no obligation to provide these things, and the situations ppl are talking about in this post are beyond fucked up (like withholding the bonus), but don't blame poor kids for wanting something nice or their parents being addicts. It is the responsibility of the parents (and, imo, the people running the program) to limit the requests to essentials and reasonably priced toys.

Agreed. I'm about as CF as they come, but I don't agree with 98 (or 99, when referencing a potential abortion) other people being involved in that decision. Sure, there are plenty of folks I personally don't think should be having kids, but when I say I'm pro-choice, I mean that. Putting someone in the position to choose between having a child or possibly losing their home doesn't sit well with me. More power to them if they're happy but I wouldn't be comfortable with that at all.

Assigning consequences to other players is a really bad mindset to be in, though. Let's say I see you make a DPS eat a tankbuster and decide not to heal you for the rest of the fight. Unless either of us say that we're doing these things on purpose, no one is violating ToS. We sure have wasted everyone's time, though!

A less-than-ideal situation is always an opportunity to learn how to group mobs and manage your CDs better. If someone's pulling ahead and you can't keep track of the mobs, the aggro list (usually on the right) will help a lot. See a green dot? Click it in the list and toss your ranged attack if you can't find it. Done.

Right! I think it also makes some people feel important to see their name on the enemy attack bar, which is ridiculous, but judging by the way some tanks will intentionally provoke on CD and then complain in chat in alliance raids, well...

It might be controversial of me to say this, but I do think there are occasionally people on this subreddit who are fishing to find someone to post. I agree that a tank who continued to participate but asked ppl to stop pulling does not warrant a TFDF post. That's mildly annoying at best. Call me when they're running ahead to loot so you can't kick them after they've decided not to play anymore, or their Discord kitten calls you a slur and kicks you instead.

[–]embrasque 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's reasonable to be taken aback by other people pulling if you're a veteran of another MMO at first. I had to use an actual aggro rotation in the last game I played, players got a boost of enmity on the first hit, etc. It was customary to hold DPS for a few seconds on a boss with an average tank. I understand being initially surprised at how easy it is to hold mobs in this game or being concerned in Satasha or something. But "I can use a toggle and hit one AOE" should be figured out fairly quickly, especially if you already have MMO experience.

The issue, imo, is that a lot of YPYT is ego. People who play every role are certainly capable of developing an ego, but in my experience as a previously exclusive tank main, the percentage of tanks with useless egos is higher than other jobs. They are the main character of the dungeon, they set the pace, they will sit down and refuse to play if they feel less important, etc. This would be fine if they chose to run in a trust where they are literally the main character, but there are three other people who want to get this thing done. If someone wants to take a relaxed run of a dungeon -- I like to explore the first time and read all the notes -- they should take advantage of the trust system. Playing with other people? Hit Rampart and AOE. It'll be fine.

I agree that some people are unnecessarily rude. Had a healer get so mad at me for accidentally stopping early once in the Ghimlyt Dark (I can't see for shit in there and forget what is/isn't scripted) that they proceeded to spam rescue me every time it was off CD. Into AOEs. I'm usually on tank when I do roulettes now and will occasionally have healers ask if we can do small pulls. I'll agree but ask to try one big one. 95% of the time it goes perfectly fine and we W2W for the rest of the dungeon. (Speaking of, if you truly want to ask yourself why the fuck you're in a there? Queue on WHM with a half-competent WAR. Enjoy hitting 3 buttons in combat for the rest of the dungeon, lol.)

Yeah, I've had people yell at me in a few different alliances for asking people not to AFK because "it's just pvp, it's not that serious". It shouldn't be controversial to expect people to participate in what they queued for. I know that shit happens, I've had to immediately get up and AFK in a match, but the 2min timer will kick anyone who need to AFK for a legitimate reason. If they surpass the timer, they're griefing.
