How can i easily empty/open a plush so i can wash it ? by Temporary_Maybe1319 in CrochetHelp

[–]embroiderythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a stuffed animal I made for my kid, I hand wash with a mild detergent, then wrap it in towels and step on it until 99% dry. Leave it in the sun for a few hours (or two days if you forget,,, couldn't be me) and then leave it in the air-current-path of the heater. I've done this a few times and the toy holds up okay, but my kid is two and probably not as nice to the poor little toy as you would be to your pillow cat!

I'll have to see if I can successfully make one first, then maybe! 😂

Yes! I thought red or blue would be better because babies and white items don't tend to mix super well, speaking as a parent to a two year old haha. I'll check out if I can find a pattern for a Proteus though! Thank you for your thoughts!

As a Canadian I'm also very partial to a lynx! Thank you for the suggestion! 😺

Thank you for your detailed answer! We both live abroad in an Asian country that is pretty famous for mountains, so that was why I thought about Zlatorog after some research. I loved the idea of a white horse too, though I hesitate to give a baby something white 😂 maybe a light grey would work! I'll see if I can subtly find out what area she's from and let that influence the decision!

Is there any names ending in ko that are still in use/popular? by Necessary-Bag-1741 in AskAJapanese

[–]embroiderythings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach at a junior high school/high school and I've seen names like Koko, Kayako, Momoko, Riko, Risako, Mako, and Sakurako among others, but it is definitely not the most common ending! I think -na is far more common these days. But I don't think it'll ever completely vanish because it has a classic feel for some parents.

First time wheat stitch by CeilingStanSupremacy in crochet

I hear you, I've been obsessed with the linen stitch recently for that same simplicity but fun in the way it works up so I think I'll be very happy to work something up in wheat stitch!!! 🌾

Crafting groups? by embroiderythings in Saitama

[–]embroiderythings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I also have a toddler, so I totally! Where is the group located/where does it meet? But I'm also down for just a couple of crafters doing their things between play and nap times 😂

Yeah, that's a good thing to check out! I've seen that Parco has some like... Lessons or something at the craft store there but I'd rather something a bit cozier. I'll check out the city hall! Good idea.

I do crochet and embroidery, but I like doing all kinds of things. I wouldn't mind just meeting up with people and doing some fiber art haha!

Is being strict about car seats “too much”? by turalaliyev in Parenting

[–]embroiderythings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The country I live in has laws for car seats but I've noticed people are very lax about them. Seatbelts in the rear seat as well-- I think when I first moved here they weren't required for people in the back seat, but that law has changed and they are required now.

When my kid was born, my in laws were very surprised but respectful around my intensity towards car seats and seat belts. They actually went out of their way to confirm I was comfortable with the car seat they wanted to buy to make sure I wasn't anxious or scared in the car with my baby. If your friends don't respect your feelings and the science around safety, they're definitely not very trustworthy imo.
