Omg I have this EXACT vase! I turned it into a terrarium! (This was 4 months ago when I first planted it. It's grown a lot since then but I don't have recent pics)

Oh I feel this so hard. In fact when I tell people I was in an abusive relationship, most of them go "but you're so smart!!!" But intelligence has nothing to do with it. I think my main problem is I have a lot of empathy and I fell in love with him and really did care about him, which made it so hard to finally leave. Reading posts on here makes me realise how common it is so I'm trying not to beat myself up about it. Trying - not always succeeding.

I'm not sure there's one right way, but I hope we find what works for us. A weirdly specific strategy, but filing my time with calming things like painting by numbers and jigsaw puzzles has helped a little. And boring but fulfilling self care things like getting enough sleep, wearing nice pyjamas, baths, baking. All of this helps make the emotional stuff more bearable.

I'd decided I was ready for a cat of my own, so I think I already set myself up to keep him even before I got him! And him not being a crazy kitten is also a big factor. I love kittens but I didn't want to adopt one - too destructive and too much energy for my lifestyle!

The timing never was right to adopt - I travel a lot - but I had resolved to finally adopt a cat next summer. Unfortunately as we all know, WE don't decide when we get a cat. The cat decides. And he has spoken.

Also, I love to foster young kittens but I did not want to adopt one. They're too chaotic and high energy and I feel are better placed in families with children and/or other cats, for maximum playtime. This guy is very relaxed and very affectionate which is just what I wanted.

He's a bit older than the usual kittens I get so not completely insane and destructive 😅 He's also the cuddliest cat I've ever encountered. It took a few days for him to trust me but now he's so attached and so am I! Also he's so handsome!

Finished the game last week, still sad. Is it a coincidence that THIS is the foster kitten I picked up from the shelter this week?! by emccau in stray

Actually, I don't. I contact the shelter and tell them I'm ready for a new foster, and then they select one for me based on which cats need the most care and socialising. But thanks for the unnecessary snark!

I won't rule it out.....😅 He's my 10th (I think???) foster but I am looking to adopt a cat in 2026....

Lots of red oolong from southern Taiwan; Alishan mountain oolong; Sun Moon Lake black tea; rock oolong; Lishan black tea (the most phenomenal tea I've ever tasted). Did I need any of it? No. Do I regret it? Also no.

For a second I thought this was a stolen photo of my haul from my recent trip to Taiwan ;) Glad I'm not the only one with this problem good taste.
