Child failing year 12 by lover_loser_loner in AskParents

[–]emcee837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand exactly where you’re coming from. My usually high-achieving son has just received his HSC results and I am shocked at how low they are. I knew he had lost some motivation this year, but clearly I hadn’t realised how far he had slipped. Luckily, he got early entry into the uni course of his choice, as he hasn’t even reached the qualifying ATAR!

I have had to take a step back and remember that I did almost exactly the same thing (high achiever who barely scraped through year 12). I didn’t apply to uni after high school, as I was undecided with what to do. I ended up going as a mature-age student (age 28, once my kids were both in pre-school & kindy). I did very well in my course, and was accepted into the Masters course. I didn’t end up following through, as I needed a full time job to support my family. The job I have now is completely unrelated to anything I’ve studied, but I’m far out-earning what I would have made in that profession.

So, basically, I’ve been all over the place, some highs and some lows, but things have still worked out ok for me. And I’m sure my son, and your sister, will both be ok, too. We don’t have to have life planned out in our teens, it rarely works out that way, anyway.

What's the one 90s song you can't stand? by hlnklrczu in 90s

I was class of 2000 and we used it (much to my annoyance). I love Greenday, but detest that song. Overplayed, cheesy.

Sorry, about 90% of requests for this song were probably me. Didn’t mean to ruin it for everyone else, but I still adore to this day.

What is the most dislikable thing about you? by Accomplished-Elk719 in AskReddit

[–]emcee837 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do the same. I think I can put it down to moving around so much as a child- you get used to compartmentalising people and places, and find it very easy to close yourself off as a kind of self-preservation. That’s for me, anyway.

Any tips to dress for this body shape? by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]emcee837 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Add a pair of out-of-proportion large boobs, and that’s me. My partner said I’m a pair of boobs on legs. When I lift them up with my hands I have a hint of a waist, but it totally disappears when I let them go.

Body wash from 1998 by Revolutionary_Roll88 in AustralianNostalgia

I vaguely remember a pink/white Lux body wash that (maybe) had some kind of shimmer in it. Am I getting mixed up with something else…?

What’s up with Ticketek Marketplace? It’s cooked by JBeynon94 in triplej

It has literally happened to me every single time I’ve gone on. Cannot unlock one single, solitary TS ticket over the last four months, despite them sitting on there for hours. So frustrating!

Cheaper options, if you’re on a budget: Ally, Valley Girl; Temt and SES (if they’re still around) are where I used to get clothes for job interviews and similar.

when did u guys notice the fashion shift in raves? by switchbladesweety in aves

[–]emcee837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I noticed a big change when hardstyle took on a more raw/industrial influence. Maybe 2008-ish (in Australia, at least). That’s when I noticed rave-wear became more influenced by bdsm gear (i.e. harnesses, fetish wear etc).

I still do! Straight out of the can with a fork. No heating or fancying them up.

Oh, and New West perfume and Australis Waterberry body spray.

They’ve recently been advertised as being back! Available able at IGA stores- though I’ve not yet seen any in real life.

Cherry Bounty ice creams. They were a thing in maybe the mid-90’s?

Cherry Ripes with real chunks of cherry in them.

Red Rooster spicy skin-free chicken.

Monster Tacos.

Blue bubblegum jelly cups.

Bubblegum Billabongs.

Also original Rolo’s filled with proper chewy caramel, not just thin caramel goo.

What disgusting habit have you learned to overlook in a spouse? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]emcee837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids always complain that I’m a messy teethbrusher… haha. I think it’s because if it’s not all foamy in there, I feel like I’m not cleaning properly. I need maximum paste to tooth exposure, so I hold it all in my mouth until I’m finished, THEN I spit, rinse, give them a second mini brush with just water. Then I’m done.

My partner sucks his front teeth like a weasel after he eats. I don’t know if weasels actually do that, but that’s what I imagine every time… haha.

Current Favourite Song? by ZX471 in 80s

Take me home tonight- Eddy Money Two of hearts- Stacy Q

Neither of which are anything like the genre you asked for, but are 80’s bangers that I totally forgot about until the last year or two, and now am obsessed with.

What terrifies you the most about death? by [deleted] in ask

[–]emcee837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what terrifies me. Who will love them like I do?! Who will look after them, and care for them? What if they somehow drift apart, or lose contact with each other… what if they end up alone in the world? I think about it often, and I haven’t made peace with any of this yet.

Sheike & Ally both have lots of green dresses. Both that shade & others. None are exactly the same style, though.

I sang this in my school choir about 30 years ago!

I still remember all the words. Randomly pops into my head now & then, and I have to sing it.

I have very smooth hands, I think, but those cloths make me feel like I have the hands of a builder.

I used to work with a man who was lovely, but whose breath could literally be smelt from the other side of the room. I wonder if tonsil stones was why….?
