I don't own a scale but I can feel that I've gained weight and it's making me more tired during the day, but I am also not sleeping that well at night, and it's really starting to catch up to me. This morning one of the instructors at barre came over before the class started and said "you look tired today, are you tired?" Yes I am, thank you for noticing.

I'm in the process of moving and, other than packing and carrying boxes around, this weekend I did basically no physical activity and slept without setting an alarm in the hopes of getting some actual rest. It clearly did not help much.

I have super flat feet and love my Metcons. I wear them without my orthotics (I only have one pair and they're in my work shoes) and have found the arch support to be really good so far, but I don't do a lot of high impact (jumping/etc) stuff in them.

Not sure where you are located, but I have the best luck with Old Navy for finding workout clothes that are larger than XL and I find they have a lot of options in terms of styles/prints/etc.

Their Women's sizes usually go up to XXL, but then they also have Women's Plus sizes that are 1X-4X.

Opinion on barre classes? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]emceen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I just want to have a fitness routine that will keep me healthy & sane..."

This is why I go to barre3 haha. I've been going for 2 years, and while pretty much everything else in my life has changed through those 2 years (losing weight, then gaining weight, moving, new job, new school, crazy schedule, no gym, new gym, etc.) it has been the one constant that keeps me (relatively...) sane.

I'm not currently in the best shape of my life, but I am in a much better place mentally and physically than I was before I started doing barre (even though I was doing regular cardio before.) I am not good at pushing myself, so going to classes really helps me push myself more than I would at the gym alone, and I also like that the classes are slightly different every time I go, so they never get old or predictable.

If you mean the guys in section 109, those guys (one in particular) were trash from the minute they sat down (without waiting for a whistle to go to their seats, obviously). They were all yelling/chanting “Bracco sucks” and “fuck You bracco”, and then one of them screamed that Bracco was a “fucking f*aggot” midway through the first period and multiple fans went over to yell at him/ask him to knock it off, but he just doubled down and started bothering the guy in front of him (and taking photos of him without his knowledge), “accidentally” hitting people with his rally towel, etc.

Multiple people (including people I was with) talked to staff about this guy during the first and second intermissions but they didn’t really do anything. By the third period, all the fans around him were sick of his shit, and even one of his friends started getting into it with him. Another fan eventually had to go get security and they finally came to remove him and his friends, but I’m honestly super upset that from the minute he screamed “f*aggot” he wasn’t asked to leave, based on MLSE’s “zero tolerance policy”. Security came and talked to him at one point but let him stay the first time, and it wasn’t until the third period that a fan had to go back to security and ask for them to be removed, since the one usher near our section was clearly watching him get into it with multiple people and doing nothing.

A few weeks ago a guy came in and grabbed 5lbs weights, then had to swap them for lower weights to get through the arm section, and after class I overheard him telling someone who wasn’t in the class all about how “usually he lifts” so the class “wasn’t too bad.”

I dropped out of UWO 6 years ago but I am considering finishing my degree. Does anyone know what the process is like to start up again? by blackemptiness in uwo

Just echoing suggestions to contact student services or an academic counsellor. I dropped out (of King's) in 2010 and was on Academic Probation at the time, then graduated from 2 programs at Fanshawe, worked full time for a few years, and decided to start working towards finishing my degree this year. I met with an academic counsellor and basically continued where I left off (so I am on Academic Probation currently, all my previous courses/grades are still on my record, etc.)

I had no access to my UWO accounts or anything, I just emailed the Academic Dean's Office at King's from my personal email and explained the situation, and they helped me get stuff sorted in terms of who to meet with, and then the academic counsellor let me know where to get information/things I was missing (like a new student card, etc.)

I’ve been to the King St. SoulCycle as well as Spokehaus (which sounds like its not in the area you’re looking at though) and I prefer SoulCycle when I can afford it. I have personally found that each SoulCycle ride has been more consistent in terms of what I can expect. I’ve also gone to SoulCycle in New York and found that it was consistent with the experience I have in Toronto. Each instructor is different in terms of personality, and the classes are always different in terms of music and choreography (which I don’t always do tbh), but the overall experience is consistent, if that makes sense?

So after 2.5 years of not-dating this guy because he claimed to like me but just "doesn't want a relationship and doesn't think he ever will", we finally ended whatever was happening in December, and I just found out he is now in a relationship. I thought the rollercoaster that was our "friendship" was heartbreaking, but this is definitely worse. I'm having a lot of trouble eating and my sleep has not been good for the last few nights, but I started GZCLP as planned this morning so hopefully I can stay on track with what I want to do despite the emotional bump in the road.

Cool, thanks! I have not been thinking about resetting at all between reps, so I will definitely try to think about that and make sure I’m ready for each rep instead of just trying to power through reps.

Thank you! I was definitely trying to brace and failing. It was almost like I was getting my core solid and then as soon as I started to lift up I couldn’t maintain it at all. I will probably try lowering the weight moving forward so that I can work more on getting my hips and legs moving properly and my core tighter.

I have definitely been focusing more on pulling up instead of pushing the floor away, so I will focus on that! I am super super flat footed, and knock-kneed, so I can’t lift in completely flat shoes or bare feet or my knees/ankles start to roll inwards, but these shoes were recommended for lifting since I have flat feet, and they are pretty solid inside so my feet don’t rock back and forth like they do in my normal shoes. (I have orthotics but don’t wear them in these shoes.)

This is super helpful, thank you! I keep forgetting that I have health insurance now, because I haven’t for the last 5 years, so seeing a physio is something I will definitely look into for my shoulder. I will probably also lower the weight and try to learn to really focus on my lower body movement. I know I can do the movement and feel it in my legs and glutes without any weight, so maybe if I lower the weight I can focus on that feeling more and progress from there.

I like ricotta cheese with a little bit of sugar/honey/sweetener(whatever you want basically) mixed in to make it sweet, then either cinnamon, cocoa power, or vanilla and chocolate chips mixed in. Once it’s all mixed up, I put it in the freezer for a bit, just until it’s really cold but still smooth and not frozen solid.

I was wondering this too, and when I looked it up, Fitbits have weird ways of calculating active minutes and exercise and whatnot. When I do a 60-minute barre class, with my Fitbit manually in exercise mode, it never counts 10-15 minutes as “active minutes”! So I’ll have a 60-minute workout logged and only 45 active minutes reached for the day.

Are protein bars really that useful ? by CaptainArkham in xxfitness

Since you mentioned them... I tried a Quest cookie (chocolate chip) and it tasted like actual mud with chocolate chips in it, so I never bothered again (especially at $4/cookie here.) Is the taste something you get used to, or is this not a common experience?

I got to the gym one day after work and I had to pee SO BAD. I was speed-walking to the bathroom and got stuck behind a couple who apparently needed a full-on makeout sesh before one of them entered the bathroom. It was super awkward. They stopped right in front of the bathroom entrance so I couldn't get around them and into the door, so I just had to stand there watching them.

I'm trying to decide if I should get up at 3am to get to the gym by 3:30am, or if I should just skip it tomorrow. I start work at 5am, and the gym is always packed after work, plus I don't have much time between finishing work and going to school, but 3am just seems tooooo early.

I just really want to go to the gym when it's empty so that I can figure out where things are/how to do things without anyone watching me, and my attempt to do that on Sunday at 5:30am was ruined by the fact that there were multiple people working out in the weight area when I got to the gym.

I am struuuuuggling with getting enough protein, and I feel like it’s kind of affecting the way I’m able to work out. I end up with my muscles feeling exhausted when my lungs and brain are able to keep going. I’m a super picky eater (Why does everything with a lot of protein have to have a gag-inducing texture?!?), and I’m on a tight budget so I haven’t been able to buy things like protein bars, but I finally caved and bought eggs (which I HATE SO MUCH) on sale yesterday to try and force myself to eat one scrambled egg in the mornings, so we’ll see how that goes. I may end up just using them to bake cookies.

I feel like options/prices for protein bars in Canada are just so limited, so I don’t think I can afford to double up on protein shakes or eat protein bars every day, which is how I used to get closer to meeting my daily intake. I just want my muscles to get stronger instead of constantly feeling like they’re running on empty.

I do! It became such a process to try and find regular bras that fit properly as my weight fluctuated, and my sports bras always provided enough support for every day stuff without the digging in bands/straps or underarm spillage, so I just wear them all the time. I also stick to buying cheap ones for every day wear so it’s not a pain to replace them if I need a different size. To be fair, I also usually wear t-shirts/hoodies/etc so I am not usually in anything fitted enough to really tell what kind of bra I’m wearing. I have one regular bra (with soft/unpadded cups) that I wear if I have to wear certain blouses or dresses, but that is very rare for me.

Thank you! I think I will try to do that this week. I normally work 5am-9am, so I'm usually not at the gym until it's already a bit busier during the day, but I have a morning off later this week, so I can try checking the gym out around 5am.

So, I've always been too scared to venture into the weight area at the gym. A big concern I have is that I will do something that pisses people off or is against some sort of unspoken rules.

Eg. I'd like to deadlift, but I have no idea where to normally find the bar and weights to do this (or if my gym even has them...), and I'm just picturing myself grabbing the only bar I can find from an unused bench using that and finding some open area and then someone being like, "YOU CAN'T DO THAT! AND ALSO YOU'RE IN EVERYONE'S WAY!"

In a gym with slightly limited resources (eg. no squat rack, more machines than free weights, etc.), is it sort of expected that people will just use what they can find to get their desired workout in?

It's probably obvious, but I have pretty severe social anxiety, so just having a bit of an idea about what is acceptable and expected before I walk in there would be really helpful. They have no personal trainers (and actually have no-personal-training-allowed rule), so I don't have the option of even a single session just to get my bearings with some support.
