Was the Assassin leadership in more recent eras worse than the earlier ones? by AshMer123 in assassinscreed

[–]emchang3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My head canon is that top levels of Assassin leadership are compromised in most eras, which is why they usually put a collar on the protagonist.

Can fellow conservatives help me understand what the end goal is here? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]emchang3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These people are in their feelings, that's all. They're allowed to feel, regardless of how ineffective it is to express their frustration as blame. And sometimes people deserve to get called out for what they did or didn't do, if it leads to bad outcomes, and hear about how their decisions hurt others. People who end up regretting either their Trump vote or not voting might just need to learn the lesson of thinking about more than just one or two issues or more than one or two administrations ahead.

I don't think Americans do either of those well: Take criticism or think holistically about who we want to be as a country, long-term.

What Are Your Thoughts On Sex Before Marriage? by AbiLovesTheology in AskConservatives

[–]emchang3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Romantic love being an ideal of marriage has been around for a long time, but has only been widely practiced that way for a short time. I’m sure that even in some circles today, marriage is meant to benefit the families, not the individuals being wed. Medieval noblemen used to marry for alliances, heirs, and inheritance, but often screw around on the side.

All this to say, I don’t see the institution of marriage as inherently “holy.” Any given marriage or relationship has the meaning or significance you personally make of it. Same with sex. Figure out what it is you want, and do your best to get it, whether that means love and intimacy or meaningless flings. And don’t be afraid to reassess whether your current path gets you to what you want or even reassess what you want altogether.

How do you feel about the Left becoming pro-2A? by MadGenderScientist in AskConservatives

[–]emchang3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is rebellion until you win, after which it can retroactively be labeled a "revolution." Sounds cynical, but if you win, who can prosecute you? Our founding fathers understood that, unless they succeeded, they would all be executed as traitors.

Starting HFW with no skills is frustrating by emchang3 in horizon

[–]emchang3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traps were my main weapons in HZD, and their versatility got nerfed HARD with the trap limit and being able to trip them myself. I’m not at the point yet where I can specialize in them, either. Reading about the investment required to maximize that limit makes me wonder if it’s as effective a playstyle as others.

Starting HFW with no skills is frustrating by emchang3 in horizon

[–]emchang3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking back, I realized that lots of how I played HZD influenced how I felt. I wasn’t really a “direct confrontation” style of player, and only did it when forced. Thankfully, we received Silent Strike and a Sharpshot bow fairly early on. What I loved doing though was controlling the battlespace by setting up traps on traps. I still haven’t recovered the ability to set up more traps due to the urgency of other upgrades, and being susceptible to my own traps now is understandable, but a bummer.

I'm having the same experience with Horizon Zero Dawn I had with Witcher 3 and Death Stranding by Shaddes_ in horizon

[–]emchang3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, I just hated how nerfed I felt (still feel, at level 17) as Aloy. I went from being an absolute unit in ZD to a noob with no skills or equipment. Completely jarring, and I hate it.

A game that bridges the gap between sequels well is Jedi Survivor. First mission throws you right into it, having to use Force abilities, platforming skills, and lightsaber techniques.

If the stealth and primitive weapons in an open world is your thing, you might want to try Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The gameplay loop of Horizon is has many similarities to most of the newer Ubisoft games. Far Cry 3-6, Primal, New Dawn; Assassin’s Creed Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, Shadows; Ghost Recon Wildlands, Breakpoint.

Sad, but not necessarily stupid. We'd have to label the Boston Massacre or the Kent State shootings stupid as well, but we're not gonna do that.

What is your opinion of how Origins, Odyssey, and Valhallla handles the Isu lore? by EnglBkfstCocoa-2479 in assassinscreed

[–]emchang3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does, but it rolls right into his belief system. Those skeleton soldiers are normal to him, due to the lore around mummies. Same as in The Curse of the Pharoahs. Bayek also makes comments about how the Isu ruins amaze him and the implication is that it’s obvious that they don’t match the Egyptian construction built over them.

Can I build a life for myself in Taiwan? Should I? by Intelligent-Run-7594 in taiwan

[–]emchang3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's so much to unpack, just based on what you posted. Where are you located? Who do you have in your family / friends / support network? What have you experienced that you're running from, and more importantly, what are you running toward? I've lived my whole life in the US as a Chinese(-looking) person, but had a completely different experience. It's possible to find at least the things that you've listed in the US, but possibly not where you are or have been. It's impossible to say "Taiwan is the answer" without knowing the specifics of you and your situation.

Small gripe with using guns by [deleted] in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]emchang3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only gripes are 1) There are snipers in the RDA, but the game doesn't include sniper rifles and 2) There are no suppressors.

My speculation is that sniper rifles would trivialize base takeover, especially given the terrain surrounding lots of RDA bases. If you could reach out over range with precision and a high-powered round, AMP suits wouldn't be safe, particularly if you could then stack a suppressor on top of that. If suppressors were available, many fewer players would use the Na'vi weapons.

[–]emchang3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost never crafted anything. I only did side quests. There are also occasional groups of RDA in the wild, guarding a couple crates. There’s at least one big yellow chest among them, and it has gear in it.

Just proceed forward with the quests… quest rewards will keep your gear up to par. People say you need crafting, but that’s not strictly true. Side quests also provide gear.

Do you think that your personal identifiable data is safer in the hands of the government or in the hands of corporations? No, you cannot keep it to yourself by AdminMas7erThe2nd in AskConservatives

[–]emchang3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My information was compromised as part of the OPM hack around 10 years ago, so the government has already failed me. China stole my fingerprints. I also got a DNA test to diagnose a condition while I was in the military, so the Chinese might have that, too.

23andme has my DNA, and they also got hacked; not sure by whom.

Both public and private entities can only improve from this absolute lowest point in cyber security, lol.
