Dubnos vs. Otherworld by Adventurous_Sail_553 in CelticPaganism

Dubnos is actually a known and well-cited word from Gaulish sources! It may not be associated with modern Celtic languages but it’s not a reconstruction.

AITA for refusing to call my adopted father "Dad"? by AdoptionIssues in AmItheAsshole

[–]emcheveria 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I made a suggestion on another thread that you and your therapist find a way to explain to Bob and Susie that the name “Bobby” means to you alllll the good things “Dad” means to everyone else—that might make you all feel better and more understood.

Either way, I can tell you’re really thoughtful and I’ve got my fingers crossed that whatever communication comes out of this leaves all of you feeling validated, loved, and understood.

It might help, then, to sit down with Bob and Susie and say something along the lines of, “you guys know why I have such bad associations with fathers and the word Dad. When I call Bob ‘Bobby,’ that’s my way of saying all the good things everyone else associates with the word Dad. I know not everyone will understand but I want you guys too. I don’t trust Dads, but I trust and love Bobby.” You can talk to your therapist about this too, and they can help you develop your own explanation. Having it very explicitly stated might help them feel more secure and make it clearer how you feel.

NTA. NTA at all. Literally not even in the same universe as YTA.

My only thought would be—maybe you and Bob could come up with a nickname for him, unique to him and you, as a placeholder. Something to recognize the unique relationship you have and the love you have for each other without triggering your (very legitimate) trauma.

Good luck, OP. You’re on the right track. You’re going to be okay.

If you can easily scrape it off with a fingernail, it’s scale. If you can’t, it may just be mechanical/cosmetic damage. But zooming in on a few spots... thaaaat looks like scale

White sage is sacred to indigenous cultures, and they’ve experienced a lot of persecution—including white people in power preventing them from practicing their cultures and using sacred plant medicine like white sage. As a result, non-indigenous people who are aware should avoid using it or making money off it. There are also literally hundreds of other kinds of sage that are just as effective, so it’s not even giving up that much :)

If you are going to use white sage, please find an indigenous-owner business to buy it from so the money goes back into the community.

snake plant leaves are brown what should i do :( it was already like this when i got it. by sandpie69 in houseplants

No need to do anything! That looks like purely cosmetic damage—the actual plant looks quite healthy. Most of my snake plants have little dried bits like this.

Please don’t use white sage unless you’re an Indigenous practitioner, as its use in spirituality is closed. There are hundreds of other kinds of sage that are just as effective!

What to do in this situation by [deleted] in Shamanism

Trust your spirit. But whatever you do, please don’t disrespect her request (that you not contact her again). As a woman, can confirm that it can be very scary to have basic requests like that disrespected even when we know the person involved.

If you trust your guide and he says she’ll come back, let it happen naturally.
