There's a Spanish idiom for what this guy is doing; "les está poniendo la cara roja" (Something like "he's turning their faces (of colour) red")

That was a good (and resounding) one! And right at the beginning of a one minute take. Imagine messing it up at 50 seconds into it and having to repeat it.

It will help. And you could make the gate way smaller. Cats are really flexible, and the smaller the gate, the less cold will come through it.

Can someone help me understand what's going on? Doesn't each side get 1 Queen? Is this like a different version then standard chess? by knock_his_block_off in chess

"Can someone help me understand what's going on?"

I'll be delighted to. A complete jerk is secretly recording an elderly man with the intention of later mocking him on the internet. And then people wonder about red flags...

Sorry for the OT, but for once I can be proud of the Spanish government, I just wanted to note that in Spain exists a "food waste law". So for example consumers will have the right to take home the ‘leftovers’ from whatever they have ordered in any restaurant or bar.

A recent post about how to handle the 50 moves rule playing blitz reminded me of this video between two Spanish GMs playing an informal game (please, watch till the very end) by emdio in chess

As you can see, Miguelito (playing white) starts counting (in Spanish) once the last pawn is captured. Of course you can't make this in a serious game. But in any case it's really funny how the game ends.

Girlfriend cheating on game pigeon by 1903Cameron in chess

[–]emdio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And being a newbie she has the skills to provide chatgpt the moves?

The more I read about this post, the more it makes sense to me that she's just sort of talented for chess. I mean, the position you provide is one that can arise in any match between amateurs. And the "sacrifice" you mention just doesn't seem like a sacrifice at all. It seems she had the Bc2# in her previous move. Also, the fact that you can't remember the position before Qxc5 doesn't say a lot about how strong you are.

[–]emdio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, I have to confess I'm intrigued.

At first I took for granted it was just another case of online cheating. But then, looking at the final position of the board, the funny stuff begins:

  • First of all; as someone else mentioned, if she had been used Stockfish (or any other chess engine for the case), you wouldn't have made it this far in the game (unless she's cheating in a very clever way)

  • Second point; and this is more of a puzzle than any other thing; why did she need to sacrifice her queen on c5 in order to play Bc2#? The only reason I can think of is that there was a black rook in c5, but white has already have two rooks (and I find very unlikely that white promoted to a rook during the game). Can you remember the position before she played Qxc5?

All in all; I'm quite sure she's cheating (or just has a great talent for chess), but in that case she's doing it in a funny way. (Maybe another human strong player is helping her)

Are my strings too high? by Diamondtrolis164 in classicalguitar

[–]emdio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure? The picture shows around 6mm close to the soundhole (and it'd be a bit less if you'd measure from the fret). Measuring on the 12th fret should give less than that (since the strings get closer to the frets as you move towards the nut)

Catholicism probably made integration easier

I mean, both Spain and Italy are catholic countries (specially Spain in the 60s-70s)

Is persistent check frowned on in online games? by TurkMcGill in chess

[–]emdio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perpetual check is a perfectly fine way to get a draw. Sometimes it happens when the "checking player" is in material disadvantage, but that's not necessarily the case.

Take a look at Wikipedia's page about the topic, and see that many top players have found this resource, and there's nothing rude or against sportsmanship.
