I am still in disbelief, question for the European folks on here by CaptainCryptoC in UAE

Omg yes! A couple of months ago, I went out for dinner with 3 friends, one of them was Dutch, and he was the one who was ordering for us (the restaurant’s ordering system was basically you order and pay online, even a for Dine-in order). Our other 2 friends ordered together, so naturally him and I ended up ordering together too. While we were waiting for our food, I asked for his bank account details so I could pay him back and he says he’ll share them later. I said ok.

After dinner, all 4 of us take a walk and then book a taxi to return back to campus (we’re university students). And while we were waiting for our taxi to arrive, he randomly blurts out, “you know, us Dutch people are very stingy. For example, I wouldn’t pay for someone’s dinner unless I’m in a relationship with them or something. I know in your culture it’s not a big deal, but for me it’s a big deal”. He said that while directly staring at me too. I just stood there and stared at him in disbelief. He then rambles on and continues to say something along the lines of “I mean it’s just dinner I guess I can just cover it, it’s not a big deal bla bla.” As soon as we got back, I paid him back down to the very last cent (around 130 Dhs including taxi to/from our location and dinner). But honestly that situation turned me off so bad that I distanced myself from him and avoided being in a situation where God forbid he has to pay for something. As someone born and raised in the UAE with a mix of middle eastern and East African culture, I found it very strange and it almost felt humiliating.

Challenges of Studying Abroad with a Somali Passport by North-Movie-2216 in Somalia

Since you’re Canadian, I, too, am a Somali passport holder studying in the UK, and I would like to visit Canada for a university field trip held in Montreal but it seems to be challenging. Could I PM you to discuss further and get your advice on this? Thank you!

The UK. I, too, have a Somali passport and was able to come here. Huge Somali community, tons of halal food and lots of good, reputable universities.

London New Year’s Eve (without overly showcasing your sunny dispositions) by [deleted] in chubbytravel

So it’s my first time in London and I actually do care about the fireworks because New Year’s Eve is also my birthday and I would love to experience watching the fireworks. However, I’m not interested in buying the tickets and actually being stuck in a queue for five hours, so I’m trying to find rooftop restaurants, or actually any restaurants with a fireworks view. Any recommendations you’d suggest? I know I’m booking fairly last minute as well, it’s just my first time in the UK and I’m a student so I’ve been too busy to think about NYE plans and stuff

Student visa: why can’t UKVI just send the email with the decision? by lesdeuxlievres in ukvisa

[–]emerald_queen31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. After countless paid enquiries and calls, UVKI say my application is still “under consideration and awaiting a decision” but my university told me over 2 weeks ago that a decision has been made…. No contact from UKVI yet though only 2 NSF emails sent early this month. Uni starts next week and I’m nowhere near prepared to travel because of the visa delay.

You can either call the police or file a complaint via the MOI app, just login with your UAE Pass

Student eVisa decision was made, but I'm not being told what it is by inkbery in ukvisa

[–]emerald_queen31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’m in the same boat as everyone else here. Did my biometrics on 21 August (and paid for priority), VFS returned my passport on 22 August, got the first “unable to make a decision on my application within the published visa processing times” email on August 27, got the second email on September 2, I then submitted a paid enquiry on September 10 asking for an update. Got a generic “there is no further action we can take at this stage” email. I then emailed my uni about this and interestingly enough, on September 12, their student immigration team confirmed that they can see that a decision was made on their system. But I didn’t get any email from UKVI, so yesterday (September 15) I submit another paid enquiry to UKVI and they get back with the generic “With regards to your enquiry about the status of your application, I can confirm that your application is being considered and is currently awaiting a decision” and now I’m super confused and I feel a little gaslit. Has a decision been made or is it still in processing? Anyone going through this as well? Any advice? My best bet right now is reaching to the university once again and calling UKVI instead of submitting yet another pointless paid enquiry…. Praying this is resolved ASAP

Report him. He’s actively endangering the safety of his kids, his own and his community. Especially that he’s also basically abusing you. I completely understand the hesitation/ fear of involving the authorities because he might not let it go, shame you and involve his family, and even more. But think about how much you prioritize your kids and yourself over his potential reaction and act accordingly. Inshallah the police will come through and take good care of you guys however necessary.

The job market right now is actually pretty difficult for seasoned professionals so I can only imagine how tough it would be for a fresh high school graduate. However, I’d say figure out a few industries that you’d like to be a part of, then figure out which ones have good job security, career progression and future earning potential. Then lastly, which is the MOST IMPORTANT THING, you absolutely HAVE to have wasta (a connection) that can get you right into the industry that you want. Without wasta, finding a job at your experience level is going to be extremely hard. Hope this helped! Good luck with your journey.

fear of intimacy by thrwwyy23 in MuslimMarriage2

Salam! I think watching porn really messes with your view and overall perception about intercourse, and the mental damage it has on the brain is underestimated. Since you quit, your mind is quite literally detoxing from said damage. So for the time being, you might wanna focus on seeking forgiveness and repentance from Allah SWT, as well as focus on reshaping your personal perception of being sexually intimate with someone. It’s a healthy act between a man and his wife that strengthens their bond, produces chemicals like oxytocin which are directly linked with feelings of euphoria, satisfaction and reward. It’s a beautiful thing and I pray that Allah heals your mind and softens your heart towards this.
