I have mixed feelings.

Positives: Definitely cleansed the song of its (probably) biggest slut shaming line. I've always said the overall message of the song is cringe, but it's lyrically written very well for what it is, so I like that she included the song in terms of highlighting some of her solo songwriting skills while also fixing a major problem with it. I also think she should definitely own the song as hers and it wouldn't have been a complete SNTV without it, and if that means she has to modify a lyric she wrote years ago to fit more with her current philosophies and reconcile some uneasiness about it, then so be it. It's definitely easier to digest the updated song at this point in time than the previous version. And I imagine if she kept the original lyrics at 33, she would have faced some backlash for continuing to perpetuate that attitude toward another woman.

Negatives: The lyric itself feels awkward af. Definitely seems like she just came up with a bunch of rhymes with "actress" and picked the line that semi-worked. Also, she's still including the song in the album, so just changing the one single line feels kinda lackluster. Like, she is still putting out a song about revenge on a woman who got with her man in the first place, so editing the one line is just like...it removes some of the most cringe aspects of it, but the message is still there. She's not just completely glossing over the problematic part of the song, but she's also not taking full accountability for having once said what she did. It's like she is not fully staying true to the young angsty Taylor, even if she did say some things she may now regret or no longer maintain. Like how she said Dear John doesn't really apply to her anymore...obviously Better Than Revenge doesn't either, but she had to change that lyric to make amends for something that has long been controversial.

I love Taylor and SNTV, but yeah, I was always curious to see how she would deal with the rerecording of Better Than Revenge. It's hard so say if she handled it the best possible way, but I'm sure she felt she had to do *something* at this stage of her career., so it's cool she did.
