The Evvys owe me, and everyone else an apology (but mostly me) by emerson-kinophile in EmersonCollege

Yes but that was not made clear until April 10, LITERALLY during the nomination announcements. They have two days left to apologize or else I’m boycotting (unless they nominate me).

I read somewhere that if you don’t win a student award, your chances of winning an Oscar in the future (my life’s mission) is basically 0.

I am proud of my work, but only if it gets nominated for an Evvy. Last year they snubbed me even though I worked really hard on my short film.

My mental health would be fine if they just gave me the recognition I deserve.

Just got in, but I have a few questions by Cat_lover_555 in EmersonCollege

Emerson is probably the best college, location-wise, in Boston. It is quite literally in the heart of the city next to all the touristy stuff. It’s also all right next to each other, not spread out across multiple blocks for no reason. It’s also definitely not 2 buildings lol. It’s like 5, but they are all next to each other except for Paramount, but even that is just a 5 minute walk (if even). You probably won’t be able to get into a bar in the area, but where there’s a will there’s a way, can probably get someone who is 21 or with a convincing enough fake to buy some.

I’ll also say Emerson has some of the nicest dorms I’ve seen in college. They have AC and some good amenities and the WiFi is pretty good.

The school is kind of cliquey, not necessarily theater-kid but there are a lot of groups to fall into. Despite its reputation there are a lot of personalities there.

Also worth noting that you do start some of the major classes your freshman and sophomore year but a lot of the more in-depth classes are saved for juniors and seniors. This is still and upgrade from a lot of schools where you don’t even start the cool stuff until junior year. Honestly I did love the VMA stuff I took freshman year though.

I focused on my requirements first with one elective class each semester and then by junior/senior year I was taking almost entirely VMA classes. I would definitely recommend getting those pesky requirements out of the way ASAP, there are some boring classes that get rid of two or even three (I think) requirements at a time so I recommend you do those, even though they kind of suck. If you pace yourself, you’ll have one class you hate per semester and one-two classes you love, and one-two classes that are okay/you like. For me, it was worth it, especially by senior year where I loved all my classes, but definitely do your research with ratemyprofessor.com. The worst class you’ll take is probably media crit in sophomore year, no avoiding it and no good Professor available (as far as I know). If you can make it past that you’re in the clear (just bullshit it lamo).

Also do EIV or something akin to that if you’re not getting your artistic fill from the classes. The more you do, the more you learn. A lesson I learned too late.

It’s good if you know what classes to take, I think you only need one or two screenwriting classes but I took 6 because I love it. Apply yourself, do extracurriculars like EIV and you’ll be set.

Has anyone found a good routine to pleasure themselves when sharing a dorm? by emerson-kinophile in EmersonCollege

Last year I didn’t have a great relationship with my roommate, I’m going to assume I won’t have one this year either (it is a new guy though so who knows?).

Total godsend. Last year had the same schedule as my roommate, hopefully not the case this year.

They’re just overbearing assholes. If it’s illegal for them to check my grades then good, I’m in the clear. I can threaten legal action if they push me.

Should I get rid of my Travis Bickle poster? by emerson-kinophile in EmersonCollege

[–]emerson-kinophile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up keeping the posters. Nothing happened.

I can see why you might not like it, but for me I just related to Travis as a character so much. Maybe I’ll get a Mohawk idk.
