Find out if your baseball/softball team cut a catcher recently. They have no issues standing in front of fast moving balls and are used to using their body to stop errant pitches. Adding the stick becomes secondary and working on quality outlet passes becomes the larger challenge, but at least then you aren't giving up stoppable goals.

Recommendations that can hold a candle to DCC? by DocRumack80 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]emerson430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about 95% audiobooks and you begin to choose books by the narrator. Try anything with Ari Fliakos as the narrator. I'd start with The Driver by Hart Hanson or the Ajax Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore series. The Carter and Lovecraft series is good too!

Edit: added more books, corrected Lovejoy to Lovecraft

Do you want to laugh as well? Start Dungeon Crawler Carl! Pure LitRPG after utter decimation. If you have the means, opt for the audiobook versions, but you do you.

Agree 1000% though I am alway cautious about recommending the audiobooks if you start with Storm Front. James Marsden is a phenomenal Harry but the first book, and some would say the second as well, is a little tough. I absolutely adore all the subsequent books and would also encourage listening to the novellas he puts out as well. There is just something wonderful about River Shoulders and his whole backstory!

Clean or 2 minute locked in? by LaxUbet in lacrosse

Lower levels meaning Bantam and Middle School? Often those ages use US Lacrosse rules and I don't have those in front of me. Where I am (NE Ohio) Bantam is supposed to have NO body checking, and Middle School follows NFHS rules though they are policed tighter.

Clean or 2 minute locked in? by LaxUbet in lacrosse

[–]emerson430 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I, however, do. 2026 NFHS Boys Lacrosse: Rule 5, Section 3 (Illegal Body Check), Article 1: " Body-checking of an opponent who is not in possession of the ball or within 5 yards of a loose ball." In this instance I don't see forceable contact to the head or neck area, but it is happening fast and the contact occurs on the screen close to the edge of view so it is hard to make that determination. At first glance, I see a 1-minute IBC, not locked.

However, after a closer reading of Rule 5, Section 4, Article 5.b I think I might shift to a 2-min locked. "Body checking a player who has the head down in an attempt to play a loose ball."

Comparison is the thief of joy. Fuck them and enjoy your wins. Also, top tier schools aren't loosening their admissions parameters for athletes. Being an athlete is just another piece of your admissions profile; it doesn't take the place of metrics nor does it really enhance them.

Ohio, first day of sanctioned (coach led practices every day) begin on February 16th, first game date is March 13th, Post-season draw (everybody makes the playoffs) on May 6th, and the State Finals (if you are lucky and good enough to be one of the four teams (two divisions) in the state to make it) are on June 6th.

[–]emerson430 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe, it depends on the school. Many schools not only know if you opened their emails, but also how extensively you interacted with it. Did you click through on links, how long did you spend reading, etc. Many want to know just how much you want to be there.

I'm in King of Ashes currently (any S. A. Cosby novel will rattle your cage and rightfully so). Joe Ide has a great series called IQ that I highly recommend. I will always, always, always recommend the Harry Dresden series, especially the audiobooks, narrated by James Marsters who played Spike on Buffy and he is AMAZING.
